The second team had been inserted successfully, working their way into a position to observe the target building and start their assigned tasks. Their target building was a big ugly block of concrete. Most of the windows had been taped over with newspapers and other pieces of paper, othershad been boarded up completely. The neighboring buildings had about 60 feet distance to this oneand looked exactly the same, save for smaller details like the chain link fence with the company logo that was still in place, clinking while it moved with the occasional gust of wind, the satellte dish on the roof or the big antenna next to it. They could see a man in dark clothes next to the main entrance. He was looking rather bored and tried to not call too much attention to his presence, but the glimming cigarette gave him away pretty easily. There was not much more movement on the perimeter, except for the cameras on top of the building, one per corner, slowly moving over their assigned part of the grounds. They recognized the guard, it was one of the persons Blackman had described to them in greater detail. Although it was not easy to make out, they were able to see a walkie-talkie at his belt when he went for the next smoke and lit it up. |

Suddenly they saw the guard straightening somewhat a bit aftr Clarice had reported him as mortal. He turned his head towards the side of the building in case they paid any attention to him and weren't busy with the camera feed. He shrugged and didn't go to check and also didn't make any attempt to report something over the walkie-talkie, but remained near the front door, smoking and monitoring the area in front of him with the same bored look on his face. The seconds ticked as they observed the entrance and the guard. Gideon and Adael kept a bit more to the rear, as they weren't as good in blending in with surroundings and the whole 'vanishing into thin air' business. Their trade was a different one. People and how to deal and manipulate them, they were good at that, but then, this wasn't what was needed at the moment. So they kept the equipment safe and left the stage to Jane and Sawyer. Some more time passed, as a small brown van pulled up and headed for the compound, stopping near the gate, the woman inside getting out and climbing into the back. |

Jane was waiting for Sawyer, the team leader, to give the go order. While she was better at the planning part of these sorts of operation, he thought better on his feet. And didn't have a mental disorder that occasionally made him lock up. As much as they'd had their ideological differences lately, she trusted him to be effective. Though if he didn't order them to move soon, she might gently poke him. In the meantime, she occupied herself with scanning the woman coming out of the van so see what she was and how she was feeling about that. Once she had a read, she texted the rest of the group. Since both she and Sawyer had Obfuscate, cellphone texting was the safer and more reliable way to communicate, and it would be good to establish those habits from the start. @TeamStreet: Incoming woman is human. Anxious, bordering on afraid. Edited by Jane Marlow, Wednesday, 23. April 2014, 20:16.

The woman came back from the truck after a while with a clipboard and walked over to the guard near the front door. She held it into his face and they had a short discussion before the guard used his walkie-talkie. After a short, inaudible conversation, he threw up his hands in frustration and followed the driver back to the van, where they started rummaging and then started to carry crates to the entrance, piling them up next to the door one after the other. The crates were made of wood, with markings on it that looked asian, although it was hard to say what kind of asian in particular. They didn't look to heavy and were rather small as well. Gideon and Adael were still watching the equipment, doing some routine checks and basic maintenance just to keep themselves busy in the meantime. |

Jane's unusually sensitive ears told her that the argument was a boring exchange about whether or not the guard was going to help unload. But then he agreed to lend a hand. "This is Street-Red. We see it." (Edited due to misunderstanding about how Obfuscate interacts with cameras.) Edited by Jane Marlow, Tuesday, 29. April 2014, 20:04.

Adael felt strange in this situation, exposing himself to perils wasn't definitely his style but he needed to. Jane seem to be very comfortable in this situation, she would "handle" it just fine, or least she thought so. The Ventrue nodded and prepared to move with the group on cue. |

Sawyer watched the proceedings cautiously from their vantage point across the street, and finally seemed to decide that now was the time to begin, counting on the apparent annoyance of the guard to keep him from reacting particularly quickly to a changing situation. "We can't be sure about the state of the cameras," he said, voice barely audible. " 'Till we get confirmation from Sky, we're gonna have to play it safe. "Mr. Avir, we're taking on the faces of two of the employees we studied. I'll handle obfuscatin' you, but keep your head down as long as you can- better if the camera can't catch sight of your face. I'd like you to handle dominatin' the security guard so that we can get him to follow you back here 'n subdue him out of sight of the delivery woman or the cameras. "Then, Ms. Marlowe and Mr. Lockwood will take on the identities they learned- I'd suggest Mr. Lockwood pose as the guard since he's more likely to physically pass as him on the camera feed. We'll follow the delivery woman in with her crates, but remember to keep your heads down- the faces won't trick the cameras if they're still in operation." Tonight, Adael would be playing Richard Patel, apparently a low-level employee who according to Blackman was an unassuming, quiet man that handled the procurement of lab equipment. From the time Sawyer had spent trailing him, he knew that Patel was an infrequent visitor to the facility, and that this was unlikely to be a night when he was scheduled to work. His mask was that of a chubby, forty-something Indian man with a bushy mustache and sad brown eyes. Sawyer's employee badge, on the other hand, read Worthington Chaseworthy- a long and pompous-sounding name that disguised the fact that the man was basically a glorified janitor who worked the graveyard shift in the building. Gray-haired and balding, his face was as equally forgettable as Patel's, and Sawyer had gone through extra care to ensure that the back tire of the real Chaseworthy's clunky Volvo had sprung an unfortunate flat on the drive to work. Both Sawyer and Adael had spent time learning what they could about the two cover identities during the preparation time. He paused to see if Adael had any questions about the first phase of this operation. If there were none, the deputy would bring up both men's masks [Mask of A Thousand Faces/ Conceal the Gathering] and quickly make his way to the other side of the delivery truck, where the guard and the delivery woman waited. |

Adael took a second to be deceived as well, looking at his new apperance while still hidden from the enemy's sight. After a few seconds he nodded to Sawyer indicating him his readiness. In his mind Adael was perplexed of his own guts to carry on, exposing himself in this way, in his mind two contradictory images fight over the situation, on one side was Prince Quentin his mentor, who would have opposed to this madness from the first moment and his Sire Jamie, a one of a kind Ventrue, that somewhere was very proud of Adael's courage. As he walked down the alley he pinpointed in his imagination the points of the whereabouts of the cameras, turning his head casually acting like he was saying something to Sawyer, the next pass he rose his hand casually covering his face as he settled his fake hair and cap. Eventually they got to the security guard and forcing his accent for a british one he took a second to smile at the delivery girl and then looked at the Guard with defiance. Adael's visage was serious and his eyes went directly to those of the guard, which he met out of confusion. "Hey man! I need some help, would ya come with me. It won't take more than a moment" he said, while waving back to the direction from where he came from. OOC: Underline = mesmerize |

The delivery woman passed them without paying much attention to them, getting into the back of the vehicle to get another crate. The guard looked at Adael a bit annoyed and flung the rest of his cigarette into the tarmac that surrounded the building. "Damnit, Rich, whats your problem ? Someone pissed into your curry yesterd-" He stopped and his eyes went empty as Adaels will overpowered his own. He slumped a bit forward, his gaze somewhere in the distance. "Sure, boss !" If Adael started to move, the guard would follow him. |

Adael moved naturally and smoothly, passing his arm over to palm the guard in his back in a very familiar way, like they've known for enough time to have that kind of trust, and said. "Thanks! You can get back to your crates in a second. Excuse me Miss, this won't take long" The whole arm sharade was meant to conceal the guard's eyes and strange behavior from the delivery girl, while keeping a casual dialog as they walked away, into de alley and to Adael's allies. The walk was short and then right next to the Deputy Sheriff waiting in the darkness Adael looked once more into the guard's eyes, staring at him intensely. "You felt very tired while walking with me to help me out. Suddenly an awkward noise called your attention to this spot, just to realize it was just an alley cat playing with the trash can. You smiled to yourself, how silly of you, and when you turned back to walk back to your position your shoe slipped on the ground, knocking you back prone and hit your head against the can and falling unconsciouss. Remember the black cat with yellow strippes, remember the sound of its meow, remember walking down this alley with Richard Patel, remember how stupid you felt as you fell down, remember his hand reaching, trying to help you from falling, and then just pain and darkness." then Adael rose a hand indicating Jane to hit the man on his neck, matching the description. I watched and waited for my part to start. Adael's plan wasn't too bad, quite the opposite. Asking the Deputy of all people to knock the guard out, however? It made me glad I could make myself useful and be of service. Of course, it had been a considerable amount of time since I had last been in need to floor someone quick, but knowing that, I had prepared a few implements that might compensate for my lack of an imposing strength and physique. "Perhaps this will be able to help ?" I offered with a low voice behind the man's back, holding out a small bottle of ether and a handkerchief to the Deputy. I had figured that there would have been people to be disabled most likely and therefore had gotten this little gem for myself. There were a few other implements waiting, most important my weapon against Blackwood and the like, but at this point, I knew I wouldn't need it just yet. This would change once inside, but I was content carrying the equipment and hanging back. I was more of a lover than a fighter, after all, and I knew my limitations. I would leave the fighting to those better suited to it. However, I was ready to help subdue the guard if necessary. |

Hooray for Ventrue, and their seemingly infinite access to things. Jane had some hand-to-hand training and knew in theory of how to knock someone out without hurting them. Between that, her magic vampire blood strength and the element of surprise, she probably would had been able to follow Adael's original plan well enough, but head trauma and neck stabbing had the potential to kill just as much as it did to render unconscious, and she was happy to accept Gideon's alternative. Ether was also dangerous, but Jane figured her blood was as good as a crash cart when it came to reviving people. She dampened the cloth and used her blood to activate said magical vampire blood strength. She was about as tall as the man and he was still in a hypnotic daze from Adael's treatment, so it was easy to get an arm around him and the cloth over his mouth. She was ready to try and wrestle with him, but was initially being gentle and hoping that Adael's hypnotic gaze and cat story would keep him from resisting this slightly augmented narrative where he still ended up unconscious. She heightened her sense of touch and hearing slightly to keep track of his breathing and the tension in his body and disengage at the right moment. Assuming all that worked, she'd give him a whack him in the neck as he slid to the ground as per Adael's narrative. Then she'd check his vitals. |

Adael was pleased, he felt he had scored against Deputy Sheriff Jane in response for her aggression during the previous meeting about this mission, against him and against the Clan of Kings, Ventrue. As he saw Jane obeying his orders and Gideon's, as it were supposed to be, he thought about her words and decided that this was just the first in order to even that score. While she was occupied dealing with the guard, Adael turn his eyes to Lockwood and shared a complicity smile about what had just happened, that lasted just a second. |

I wouldn't have minded to get my hands dirty already, but it wasn't necessary so far. This was fortunate. I watched as the Deputy displayed her competence in dealing with the man quickly and efficiently. She was a good choice for her office and a competent handler of guards that got in the way. Admirable. I took note of the small smile that Mr. Avir sent over and replied with a short acknowledging nod. Not one that was too visible or too pronounced, that looked horrible on me. I had found a small inclination of the head entirely satisfactory for my purposes and made good use of it once more. He was a good addition to the clan. He would make himself useful instead of being just dead weight, there was no question about that. The others watched out for how the guard reacted to the methodical and careful application of the Ether and made sure that the scene wasn't seen by too many people in the vicinity, either through cameras or by pure chance. As long as he wouldn't pull away, scream or start a fight, I didn't see a problem. Adael's mastery of subjecting others to his will would keep him in check, I was sure of that. I was relegated to a bystander role, blocking the struggle from sight with my body and just carrying equipment. Not a very exciting task, I had to admit. But one I didn't risk failing at and also one that didn't put me in too much danger for now. Unoccupied as I was, I typed a quick message and sent it to my clansman. It was for his eyes only and some things were better not discussed openly with those not of the blood around. |

The guards eyes widened and he tried to break free as panic overcame him and ripped him out of the obedient daze he had been caught in. As much as he struggled against Jane's grip, he couldn't free himself or even fight off the rag that was placed in front of his mouth. Then, the struggle got weaker and weaker slowly until the man's eyes rolled back into his head ad he slumped against Jane's hold, unconscious, but still alive as she was able to discern easily per heart beat and breathing. Both was a bit irregular at the beginning but went back to a somewhat regular pace after a while on the floow and the hit to the neck. They dragged the body into hiding and noticed that the cameras weren't moving anymore, as if they had been blocked in the outmost bit of their observation arc. In the meantime, the delivery woman had taken up position next to the crates and waited there with a pen and a clipboard. looking at the watch in shorter and shorter intervals, the look on her face nervous and impatient. |

Adael noticed the woman's attitude and made a hand sign for the rest of the troop indicating that he'll handle it. After a short pause just to be sure that everyone was aware that he was going to the main door again with the crates' lady, he started walking down the alley in natural pace. |

Mister Lockwood kindly helped Jane move the limp man. Once she'd finished checking and repositioning the guard, Jane glanced up to see that Mister Avir seemed to be taking initiative. Which was swell, but might take him out of range of the Mask Sawyer had on him. She turned her radio to the local group channel and spoke quietly into everyone's ears. "Mister Avir, please run your anticipated next actions by the team leader for approval." The team leader being Sawyer Flint, who would know exactly how far was too far when it came to Adael retaining the fake-face he had on, and who was the man behind this alternate-identity-based infiltration plan. Whatever Adael had planned was probably good, but teams worked better when they were coordinated and followed pre-established command protocol. At least in Jane's NYPD-shaped world. "Hold on, tiger." Sawyer's gruff caution was barely audible, but its meaning wouldn't be lost on the other three, even if it wasn't as straightforward as Jane's order. Proximity was vital to the success of the masks he was projecting for the two Ventrue; while he hadn't tested the outer limits of obfuscate's range, he was certain that visual range, at the very least, was necessary to keep the illusion up. That necessitated moving together, and that required more communication than Adael had yet given. Vaguely irritated and unwilling to place the success or failure of the mission on a single, rash pair of shoulders, he motioned for Gideon to follow. The three men would need to be together regardless, and all it took was a ornery goat straying from the herd for this plan to unravel. As the Ventrue moved into place, his features rippled and shifted into a facsimile of the man out cold on the alleyway pavement. To the casual observer and the unfocused mind, Lockwood had disappeared, and in his place was the security guard- whole, intact, and most definitely not being held captive in an infiltration scheme. Almost imperceivably, Sawyer's gaze caught Jane's. Familiarity had lent the deputies something of a secret language of subtle gestures and expressions; after all, the fact that Sawyer's usual (lack of) face was borderline unreadable meant subtleties were often the only thing they had. To the other deputy, this gaze's meaning was crystal clear: "Watch Avir." He wasn't naive enough to think that tonight might go down without problems. He only hoped that a teammate wouldn't be one of them. |

Adael seemed to be rather eager to handle the remaining person outside. Quick thinking, another thing that was good and important. The same could be said for the display of confidence in one's abilities. But Flint had a point. I looked down at my feet and was now wearing the somewhat substandard clothes of the man we had just floored. Or appeared to, for that matter. I made an effort to remember how he had behaved before our little group had derailed the way he thought and acted. Did this Nosferatu discipline even do more than give a mask ? It was safer to assume it didn't. That meant that my voice was very likely still my own. I had to take care of that fact and incorporate it into the current situation. I silently excused myself and walked back over to where the guard was. He had had a walkie-talkie after all. Even if it wasn't of use most likely, it would help uphold the illusion of me masquerading as him. The same went for other pointers. Therefore, I searched him and if I found any keys or weapons, I would take them. They would make our job that much easier after all. As soon as I had finished, I gave the others another well-measured inflection of my head. In this situation it would probably look a bit silly, but refined manners can't be suppressed at a whim. "I would be ready to go !" I whispered. Yes, very much merry old me talking. But I would stay in the background anyway and do what I do best. |
