The Kindred Chronicle
Key Figures
THE MONSTER OF EALING
Last night, several people reported the sighting of a "screaming red monster" in a quiet neighbourhood of Ealing. After a power shortage in the area, a building caught fire. It was then when, what was described as a "man shaped, footless creature" emerged from the flames, leaping, running, and screaming. One woman has told our reporters that the man had "teeth like a wolf, and the face of the devil". Police officers are still trying to get to the bottom of this; neither the power shortage nor the fire have still been explained. A spokesperson from Scotland Yard has stated that the "so called monster" might be a wounded person, escaping the fire.

TRAGEDY IN TOOLEY STREET
The police has found the bodies of three TFL workers in the construction site at Tooley Street. One of their colleagues raised the alarms last week, when the three workers didn't attend their shifts. The bodies of the men have been found in a deep hole, uncovered by the refurbishment works that are taking place in the area. According to the Police, the bodies were horribly mutilated, which has led to the wildest speculations. The names of the three workers are being kept anonymous, following the wishes of their families.

HOROSCOPE
MARCH 8 - PISCES
You are used to making sacrifices, to prioritising the happiness of others before yours. Even though that is a noble attitude, there are times in life where the only healthy alternative is to embrace your own selfishness and allow yourself some enjoyment. Reserve one hour per day to do something you really like. Treat yourself! Your colour for this month is blue.
Echoes from the past ring back into London. Their intensity increases until they are deafening. What once was a faded memory of a glorious time, now becomes a shocking reality. The consequences of actions taken decades ago ripple into the present, altering the lives of everybody in the City. Unguided and blind, Kindred wander around, trying to make profit out of the reigning chaos.

The appearance of four mysterious figures turned the city upside down. Mistrust and jealousy became the official currency of London. Serpents and fiends rise to power, misdirecting the blaming eyes of the Camarilla towards imaginary enemies. Only those with clear vision and the ability to trust each other strive, while the rest run towards a shallow grave.

Malia was in a black leather jacket that descended to her ankles. Given her 5'2 height it was not a long journey. Her torso was encased in a red leather blouse bound together with silver wire. A silver choker of woven wire was wrapped about her neck. Red fingerless gloves encased her fingers and her thumbs were hooked in one of her heavy belts, one of three. A pair of black leather pants encased her slim legs and her knee high boots had a half dozen silver buckles gleaming darkly. Her hair was pulled back tight against her skull and braided into a slim tail down her neck and her mirrored goggles were perched on her forehead.

She stood in a quiet park, her gray eyes watching the evening warily. She'd left a message on Iakov's phone requesting that he meet with her. She was going to have to look outside the box for answers in dealing with Thresher and his British Firm. She had no intention to keep paying tithe to the man and it was going to be risky to infiltrate and join with the Bratva. So she was going to talk to her partner and get his opinion on things.

Being a man who valued punctuality, Iakov had arrived prior to the time his business partner had instructed. He did not however, present himself immediately.

Being a cautious man, Iakov had sent his hounds to survey the area. The newly converted Camarilla was the only person at the park that could be detected.

As Malia stood waiting, the 220 pound Mastiff lumbered out of the bushes and stood before her, panting calmly. It sat down and kept its eyes locked on the ostentatiously dressed woman, and a moment later the framiliar shillouette of Iakov made its way up the path towards her, his hands in his pockets.

"You must be in having some important thing to tell me if it could not be spoken on phone."

The shabby looking fellow pet the mastiffs head as he stopped before Malia. Her clothing confounded him and he looked her over with a raised brow.

"What is troubling for you Miss Hauke?"

The small woman crossed her arms over her slim torso and frowned, looking at the dog then turning to face Iakov. The man had an advantage over her with his animals. She had to face that and she didn't like it. She was growing very very tired of finding herself out numbered and out gunned. She took a deep breath and released it slowly.

"One of the British Firms wants a percentage of our winnings unless I can prove to them that I'm a representative of the local Bratva and then prove we have a superior position in terms of strength. I doubt they're eager for a turf war but they ARE going to protect their interests as they see them. So, since if MY profits go down, YOUR profits will go down I decided to consult you and get your input on the matter."

She unlaced her arms and once more lowered her hands to hook her thumbs in one of her heavy black canvas belts. Her pale delicate features were at odds with the angry twist to her plump red lips and her gray eyes were narrowed to slits. She wasn't in a good mood after her meeting with Thresher and she wanted to get this crap SOLVED so she could start building her financial empire here in London.

"I've got Bratva contacts back in Tokyo that can vouch for me and I'll be sending them a message to get me an in with the London Brigade, but A position of strength is a stronger position and I don't look forward to having to prove that I'm not just a harmless little girl all over again. Especially since, unlike many of the Bratva, I can't wear the Captain's Tattoos after I've earned them in an area."

That frustrated her. By rights she'd already MADE these connections in Tokyo. But if she got in touch with the London Brigade they'd want to see her marks and she couldn't exactly explain to them WHY she couldn't bear the tattoo, especially when she was already covered with tattoos nearly everywhere.

Iakov listened with a frown that seemed to grow more tight as she explained the situation.

"So. Let me understand. How did this British Firm you speak of become in contact with you? What happened to make it so you contact this man? So far, we work Sandown quiet-like. So. Tell me this. We are now Bratva? I know tongue of Ventrue can make fact of such tales to weak minds but, tell me, how is it you know Bratva? You are not looking from old country."

Tokyo Bratva? She'd need to answer some questions and he was certainly going to get answers tonight.

"You need tattoos? You need Russian language? I have been in business long time to not cross paths of these men."

In truth, Iakov had done business off an on with elements of the gang in his travels through the Balkans and Europe. He was also quite familiar with their tattoos. He took a moment and pulled off his shirt and vest to show her [Chimerstry: two rather large and older looking nautical star tattoos on his upper chest region.]

His idea behind this added little trick was simple, why involve more people than needed. If this helped in their efforts with the local Bratva, he was sure he could tell some stories of his past dealings and gain a few favors. Speaking in their mother tongue would certainly help in this endeavor.

"So? We just are in needing of endorsement from Bratva to keep this British Firm from out pockets. Yes?"

"You wanted me to make it completely safe for you to wander the race track at night. Well, to do that I need to control the criminal element that claims it as their turf. So I went after the man in charge. Unfortunately he's turned out to be a more iron willed individual than I expected. I used the Bratva as my cover because I had legitimate ties with them when I made Tokyo my home. I worked with them and the Yakuza for over 5 years while living there. I was an accepted Captain. Unfortunately no one here knows me. I sent a message to my Tokyo contacts to have my claims verified with the Brigade here in London. In the mean time the Firm is playing hard ball and expects a tithe. I can't guarantee they won't be watching the track to try and determine how we rig the races."

She regarded the stars with surprise, and suspicion. THAT was a bit... convenient. What were the odds of a random Gangrel she met at a dog fight also having been a Bratva in life? Recruiting from thugs and criminals was generally more of a Brujah tactic. It seemed awfully convenient that he was sporting those stars now when he hadn't mentioned any contacts with the criminal underworld in their past meetings. She frowned openly and regarded him with gray eyed distrust.

"Yes. Once I get the right contacts and find out which of the Bratva in London deals with Thresher and his firm I'll be in a better position to strong arm him into giving us a share of the profits, instead of the other way around. If need be I'll ghoul the bastard to make him see reason; but it all depends on getting the right kind of access to him. I implanted a suggestion for him to meet with me under more pleasant circumstances, but I'm not sure if it worked or not. I'm afraid it might have failed. His willpower was unusual for a human."

In fact she burned to kill him for defying her will like that. A mere human resisting the powers she had spent nearly a decade developing? The gall. She'd gladly see the bastard strung up and gutted. He'd be lucky if she allowed him to breath past getting what she wanted out of him.

"This seems to be sensible thing you have done now it is explained to me. You were brigadier in this Tokyo Bratva? Very interesting, this. It is however unfortunate that there may be eyes on my doings. It may complicate my next operation. I must switch this mare back in you see. Your plan for this not good performing horse to be made a winner is to happen, and soon. She is ready to return. Much better than before. We will make good money with this horse."

Iakov watched her face carefully as she regarded the illusion. The suspicion on her face was plain to see and he smiled wryly. His mind raced to form an explanation for his distrustful colleague.

"I had feeling you would react in this way. Bratva is only word for "gang". There is many of this families. I spent much time in former soviet republics. You know, Belarus, Moldova, the Ukraine. I have wandered and gambled in all such places, and so local Bratva's were usually to find me and ask tribute. This is, not ideal of course. Very similar in situation like for what we have now. In Ukraine they are not friend of Roma, so they worked very hard to intimidate to keep me from operating. Most times, I leave town if too much trouble but this Brigadier sent his Byki to harass me and beat my clients who hired me for tips, yes? So I send Byki home in bad shape and with message that I want negotiation. I offer ultimatum and services I am capable of in respect to Pakhan and territory. So, I am recruit as Torpedo, contract solo only, no more selling tips, sadly. I did this thing for some time before moving along after finishing my hits. It was not as entertaining as gambling busness but, it had perks. Lots of free meat."

He patted the mastiff on its broad muscular head and grinned.

"Just like you and your prince I had to "tip hat" to do business. This is how I came by such marks."

He shrugged his shirt and vest back on.

"This Thresher is seeming like very willful man. This is good thing you were able to suggest this however. Perhaps it will work. When is it your Tokyo Bratva will contact you? Do you need support to meet this London brigade? What is plan? We cannot have prying eyes for too long. It will interfere with my work. What is it we do?"

"Well, that depends on whether we want a gang war or not. The Firm's aren't going to roll over for the Bratva, but unless we get the firm out of the way we're not going to be able to operate as we wish at the race track."

She could accept his story, for now. It was plausible and there were stranger things than a vampire turning into a hit man... and well, he was OLD, he'd probably experienced a lot before he'd been turned as a vampire. She nodded her head slightly and felt a vibration on her phone. Reaching into a leather bound pocket on her coat she checked the message to see if it was from one of her contacts in Tokyo.

"The local Bratva's go to man for this situation is Benedikt Franko. Works as a local wine seller. We can use him as a local jumping point but we'd need to be prepared to trigger a pretty nasty cycle of reprisals.... But a thought does occur to me. Thresher ordered one of the Firm's accountants to be by liaison and to set up my next meeting with him. If we can force the accountant to work with us, transfer control of all the financial accounts over to the Bratva and at the same time lure Thresher into a meeting where he can be eliminated, well, we'd already be giving the Bratva a pretty huge advantage. If I meet with the accountant and ghoul him we can use him to get a good inside look at the Firm and where to hit them to take them apart."

Malia didn't seem particularly concerned with the thought of launching a gang war which might well cost dozens if not hundreds of deaths depending on how bad it got. If she could use the accountant to gain total control of Thresher for even a WHILE then she could arrange for the Bratva to gut the Firm like a trout and step into it's shoes in a smooth motion. It would also put her in a solid position to gain access to a lot of that profit and use it to establish herself here in London.

"This accountant. He is key to this man. Thresher. Why, if only you meet with such a man and to slip blood into drink your Ventrue tongue could get such favors. No? You twist him around little finger and I am sure that both of us can be very persuasive if need be."

He grinned and cracked his knuckles smugly.

"Sounding as if maybe we should speak to this Mr.Franko after we have accountant under our thumb. Only concern however, what is to stop Bratva from taking cut of our monies if you are to pull off such stunts? I mean, we cannot go around feeding your blood to them all, right?"

Iakov leaned his back up against a tree and crossed his arms in thought. The other two hounds trotted out of the bushes behind them and settled down by the mastiff, panting calmly after their patrol was complete.

"You can easily get accountant in your power though. Very easy I think. Much more easy than to be starting war. Then there would be no business until resolved. too much attention. Hmm. Miss Hauke. You do favor upon me to ask my thoughts on this thing. Thank you."

Deep down somewhere, he felt the tiniest tug of guilt over misleading the gadjo woman about his clan and dealings with the Ukrianian Bratva. His talents could be so useful at a time like this. A trick here and a trick there...but no, he had to play the brutish fleabag.

"I plan on manipulating the accountant. The problem with simply using him to gain access to the money I want is that once he's caught he'd be killed and I'd have to start all over again. But I suppose a gang war would be, awkward."

She contemplated the situation, trying to think of a nominal resolution. She didn't want to tell Niko that she was planning on using her contacts with the Bratva for some other business arrangements that didn't include horses, thus didn't include him. She had a financial empire to build up in this area after all.

"Most people don't have the mental fortitude that Thresher does. It has... happened on occasion... but generally I'm able to get my way when it comes to dealing with mortals. I do intend to twist the accountant around my finger but I need leverage to control Thresher. Perhaps getting the Bratva involved is a mistake, but without the leverage on Thresher I have a feeling he's going to be a hard nut to crack."

"After accountant maybe he would know way to get close to Thresher? Perhaps he has weakness for company of women? Please excuse as I am meaning no offense but is option to be alone with this man. In private places, men of this nature can at times melt. No? Ghoul both these men. If you can contain the power shift within firm without involving Bratva this would be more tidy. After you are in place as like, consultant or adviser then these men and any who are too loyal can be replaced. This is not uncommon thing. Only, must be done swift-like. Blood in streets brings in attention of authorities.

If you want we could abduct this man so soften up on our own time. More risky, but faster. Under our care for few nights and he will be like puppet on string."

He thought of the mare and the plan to switch her out....

Something similar could be done if he could have time to study the subject. Yet, how to pull it off without Malia finding out?

"The accountant is definitely a start. I shall meet with him again and do my best to get as much information about Thresher as possible. I don't think he'll need to be ghouled. Once he gets used to my presence I think he'd weak willed enough that I can get him used to simply doing as I request. It's Thresher that is the key to this level of the firm. You're right. I attempted to implant a command for him to meet with me under more intimate situations. I'm not sure if it worked. He has a formidable will. But a seduction might be the simplest answer."

She had a slight distasteful twist to her lips at the word seduction. She preferred not to use sex when she could avoid it. Sure she was sometimes willing to use her appearance to throw people off, but actually putting OUT to get what she wanted. Well, she'd avoided it up until now and she'd rather start a gang war than sleep with a man to get her way.

"No matter how you cut it when dealing with a man like Thresher you're going to end up paying HIM unless he feels you're immensely valuable. I admit, I should have been more patient and sought to learn more about the London crime scene. I got cocky. Still, they will end up paying me what I am owed by right."

Exactly what RIGHT Malia felt she had over the London Crime Firm's money was a bit of a mystery. But since she believed she should get a share, she was more than willing to change around her beliefs to encompass the idea that it was her right to be served by them. That was how the world had worked for her most of her life. It was that attitude that attracted her Sire to her in the first place. He'd called it a soul of manifest destiny, embodying the rights of kings.

"I am supposing that you will have to wait to see. If anything, with this accountant, you will have Threshers ear in some way. These bosses, they keep the people with hands on money very close. This will be good. And so. Sounding like you have plan. Perhaps also with successful racing to prove to Thresher, we will be valuable/novle how do you say..."commodity".

London is not easy place to work. I am also learning this. I am only glad they are wanting to work with us, and not attempt to crush my work. So Miss Hauke what is it I can do to assist you?"

"In truth I'm not sure. Perhaps provide a certain degree of looming if I require it. So far both members of the Firm I've encountered have had bodyguards. It's entirely possible that is the norm here. In which case I need someone to stand behind me and look suitably imposing. If that looks to the be the case I might call on you to... well loom. Just stand behind me and look suitably dangerous that they know I'm not running some kind of independent con. That might be what Thresher thinks is going on right now. I came in alone, without proper channels, without the backing of the Bratva. He may well think I'm some kind of ballsy conwoman working an angle to milk his Firm out of money."

Which, now that she paused to think about it; showed a certain degree of perceptiveness on Thresher's part. From the human perspectives she was a lone woman running a money con on the Firm to get a hand into their profits. She supposed she could respect his caution. Even if she thought his blood would make a lovely paint for her sitting room after he had the gall to say NO to her. She took a deep breath and let it out slowly, relaxing herself. These things happen. Every so often even a human was bound to say no. She couldn't kill ALL of them. Even if she did think it would improve the species to cull the strong willed ones.

Fucking cattle.

"Can I count on you to look suitably frightening if I need a disreputable looking bodyguard to stand behind me?"

Not that she wanted him to get too deeply entrenched in her plans around here. She didn't want him feeling he deserved a cut of all her side dealings after all. The race track was supposed to be a simple affair. An even split and profit for both of them. No reason to let him think she'd allow him to rise to the position of crime Kingpin beside her.

The one eyed man blinked and let out a dry wheezy laugh at her question.

"Well yes. I suppose this can be counted on. I may not be like big broad guy, but I believe other Byki would think me unsettling."

He paused, his mustache curling upwards at the corners as he smirked.

"You need more men? I can make calls, especially if you pay cash. Yet, also, do you not need to inform Prince of any of this business goings on?"

He was excited by the thought of this type of work. The possibility of intimidating this crime lord out of a savory business deal put a dangerous glint in the Ravnos' eye.

Iakov's Beast

All for the Roma powerbase of course. Right? He tilted his head in thought, seeming distracted and tense as he tried to reason with the devil to be patient.

"It lays within my purview as discussed with the Prince. I shall work the accountant for information and see what I can establish. Then I'll keep you informed. Thank you for meeting me Niko, as always business has gone smoothly."

He had a glint in his eye. Perhaps it wouldn't be so wise to get him close to the business dealings after all. She'd rather not find a partner turning into a competitor any time soon. She'd have to think it over. It wasn't NORMALLY a concern of Gangrel to try and build up a business empire, but she didn't plan on losing her meal ticket by acting foolishly. Still, she'd give him the benefit of the doubt for now.

"I don't think they'll believe that I'm so important I should be wandering with an entourage after having met with me completely alone. But I shall keep that in mind."

Because the last sensible thing to do would be to surround herself by Niko and his men and end up working for him. No, she wasn't that foolish.

He immediately snapped out of his train of thought and offered her a firm handshake (sans spit).

"You make good points. Like it is said, lions should not need to roar to make presence known. Yes? I am glad you are finding my methods to your liking. I will also let you know if your new friends are peeking in on me too often. My next move will be in few nights."

The idea of taking over the whole damned organization was fleeting and foolhardy, but until it proved an impossibility the devil would continue to prod the back of his mind. To be honest, he had a better chance at working the Bratva angle.

Patience...

Malia flashed a smile, turned and walked away. She made her way to a black mercedes, the one she had appropriated earlier to visit the Firm. She was growing rather fond of this car. She might have to arrange to keep it. It wasn't like the owner hadn't given it to her. She grinned in amusement and contemplated tracking the man down and having him sign the pink slip over to her.

Maybe later. She wanted to sew a new dress for Angelique, her newest doll. She had the loveliest curly red hair.
