Key Figures
THE MONSTER OF EALING
Last night, several people reported the sighting of a "screaming red monster" in a quiet neighbourhood of Ealing. After a power shortage in the area, a building caught fire. It was then when, what was described as a "man shaped, footless creature" emerged from the flames, leaping, running, and screaming. One woman has told our reporters that the man had "teeth like a wolf, and the face of the devil". Police officers are still trying to get to the bottom of this; neither the power shortage nor the fire have still been explained. A spokesperson from Scotland Yard has stated that the "so called monster" might be a wounded person, escaping the fire.

TRAGEDY IN TOOLEY STREET
The police has found the bodies of three TFL workers in the construction site at Tooley Street. One of their colleagues raised the alarms last week, when the three workers didn't attend their shifts. The bodies of the men have been found in a deep hole, uncovered by the refurbishment works that are taking place in the area. According to the Police, the bodies were horribly mutilated, which has led to the wildest speculations. The names of the three workers are being kept anonymous, following the wishes of their families.

HOROSCOPE
MARCH 8 - PISCES
You are used to making sacrifices, to prioritising the happiness of others before yours. Even though that is a noble attitude, there are times in life where the only healthy alternative is to embrace your own selfishness and allow yourself some enjoyment. Reserve one hour per day to do something you really like. Treat yourself! Your colour for this month is blue.
Echoes from the past ring back into London. Their intensity increases until they are deafening. What once was a faded memory of a glorious time, now becomes a shocking reality. The consequences of actions taken decades ago ripple into the present, altering the lives of everybody in the City. Unguided and blind, Kindred wander around, trying to make profit out of the reigning chaos.

The appearance of four mysterious figures turned the city upside down. Mistrust and jealousy became the official currency of London. Serpents and fiends rise to power, misdirecting the blaming eyes of the Camarilla towards imaginary enemies. Only those with clear vision and the ability to trust each other strive, while the rest run towards a shallow grave.

As instructed, Susan left the woods after completing her task. If she saw Sherwood on the way out she would bow before excusing herself.

The fresh-faced slip of a girl descended down the stairs and with little hesitation went to sit at the bar with the handsome Irishman. She folded her hands in her lap and shifted restlessly. She kept looking up at the ceiling, apparently preoccupied with what her mistress might be doing.

It felt strange to the girl to be so close to her lady, but not be in her presence. She had also not been out of the house on Jawbone hill in several weeks.

She turned her blue doe-like eyes to Lynx and said "hi".

Conference room 2B? Now that was a silly name for something so remarkable and so vivid. It was strangely vivid and even though it might freak out many people all Leslie wanted to know was how she could get this as well! This was like Area 51 for magic tricks! Her mouth had meanwhile dropped open as she saw some sparrows flutter around as well and all she whispered was "How...?"

Finally she was able to ignore the rapture that had captured her mental abilities to have a decent and polite conversation with Piscina. Again she felt the need to apologise but restrained from it as she had already done that mere minutes ago. Her eyes widened and twinkled in delight when the woman suggested a walk in the woods.

"Of course! I want to know everything of this..." she waved her hands around and twirled around her center before facing Piscina again. "... I don't know what to call this. Magic? A dream? A magical dream? I am so curious about how you did this."

With a big grin and a bouncing skip in her step she followed Piscina through wonderland. She felt like Alice. Did that make Piscina the rabbit? Or the Cheshire Cat?

"A dream would be a very good thing to call it," Piscina said, stepping back into the woods, and looking over her shoulder. "That is the word I like to use."

Piscina made some changes to the illusions, but these rustling shifts were hidden by the initial canopy. Piscina wished to keep her promise of a walk in the woods, and give the impression of expansive space, instead of just a forest hung like tinsel over small room, so she banished the glade in the center, and instead, made a narrow path, thick with foliage and the smell of green, that wound back and forth across the room. She then pulled back the canopy to reveal the path and let Leslie through.

"As for how, there are some secrets in that. But I may tell you that I am blessed by my blood to do such things, just as you are blessed to whisper with beasts and share their bodies."

Pisces' guess at Leslie's clan was based on her response to the trees, and her presence of Dahlgren's club. She assumed that it would be most popular with his clanmates. Also following that assumption, the path was peppered with interesting sights and smells that might interest a Gangrel. The musk of recently passing deer. A yellow cluster of chicken mushroom nestled in the crook of a tree. The acid tang of ground that had been marked by a wolf.

Leslie followed Piscina like a mindless lost puppy. Her head turned in every direction. Had she heard tiny wings above her? This was so real. The sight, the smell, the feeling when she touched it. Her hands brushed against the wood, the leaves and anything else that was within her reach. The young one went along the path. Her nose started to squirm in every direction. The most persistent odor was the one of the wolf but Leslie suddenly stood still. She touched a tree... rubbed it slowly with the tips of her fingers and then sniffed the scent on her hand. Deer? Really...

With a confused look she stared at Piscina. There were meanwhile different distant scents swirling around such as from flowers and even that specific moist odor you can find in woods after a rain shower had passed by.

"That obvious? I am indeed a young Gangrel." Why did she even mention young? It seemed this vampire had touched her heart with this magical forest. That might not be so good when meeting a stranger for the first time. Revealing such secrets about yourself within fifteen minutes only could get her in trouble so perhaps it was better to get her head out of the clouds and concentrate... wait! Clouds?! Could she see clouds?

Okay... while the concentration would demand more work Leslie smiled with twinkling chocolate brown eyes. "What blood may that be? I'm very sorry but I'm not aware of a clan who can do this."

Leslie could indeed see clouds. The night sky was distant above her, and blocked in many places by thick branches, but a thin gauze of cirrus decorated the stars.

"That does not surprise me," the woman said in reply. "We are rare, these nights. In years past our two bloodlines have squabbled over the narrow space between city, where the clans that like to live in houses dwell, and woods, where the wolves that are men lie in waiting. But I think most Kindred have forgotten that old feud. After all, there are so few of my kind left, we no longer take up much space. Which is pleasant for me, as it means I can speak easily with Mister Dahlgren and yourself."

"My blood is named Ravnos," she added, almost as an afterthought.

As Leslie walked forward through the illusion it rotated around her. However, it rotated imperceptibly slowly. Pisces watched carefully. Whenever Leslie turned to look at or smell something new, Pisces would shift the scene a little more. Not enough to be noticed, the change in her environment was disguised by her own shift in perspective, but just enough, so that when they reached the far side of the room, the path had rotated ninety degrees. In this way, Pisces could make Leslie feel as if she were walking straight into a deep woods when, in fact, she was staying within the confines of the conference room.

These were tricks she'd learned while working on platform rides in Disneyland, where a shifting floor and changing images could persuade people they were traveling to far off places while sitting quite still. Thus she could create the impression of a sprawling forest in a limited space.

"Is there a place you would like to go?"

Ravnos? The name didn't ring a bell. She might have to find a way to look into those things. There was definitely not a section in the library about vampire clans. It was an unpleasant thought that their clans had been in war over something such as grounds. Then again all these politics were very normal as everyone yearns for a safe place to call home but did that mean that a home couldn't be shared with others?

"From what I'm seeing right now it's a damn pity you're from a rare kind." Leslie said with some sort of comforting smile.

This place seemed endless and the further she walked (or that was what she thought) the more the forest changed. Different scents, different lights and even the air seemed to change. It was as if she could smell the rain that could be in the air and the electricity from a coming thunderstorm. This magic was wonderful! The young vampire wanted to see more, so much more if that was possible but it was rude to ask so she kept that little wish in her head.

"I didn't know this was so huge" the girl whispered to herself as she picked up a fallen leave and touched it with a deep pensive expression. She nuzzled the leave and placed it on her hand before blowing it away and watching it begin a journey towards the ground again.

"Go?" came the confusing tone from the Gangrel. Was she disturbing Piscina? "Oh... erm... I wasn't really planning on going anywhere but I understand if you are busy." Either she had heard only a part of the question or she hadn't understood it.

"Thank you," Piscina said, and the sentiment seemed very genuine.

She reflected, for a moment, that this might be an opportunity for rebirth. So many Kindred seemed to have short memories for her clan, gone for barely a decade, and banished from everyone's mind. Might they leave behind the old spotted reputation and rise again, with more power and place, with the allies you needed to live well in the world? Could they be in the West as she had seen her clanmates in India? The daydream fluttered briefly through her head. She caught it in a jar, and put it on a shelf for later examination.

"It is as large as I will it," she explained quietly. "I appreciate your trust, Leslie. Not everyone steps into this world as bravely as you."

Then she laughed lightly at Leslie's concern. The laughter was a young, simple sound and made her seem briefly childlike.

"I am quite busy. Exploring a forest with you. I see I am being confusing. It is a consequence of age--you may well find yourself speaking in riddles after your first century. I am amazed Mister Dahlgren is so straightforward. Let me try to show you what I mean."

She reached up into a hanging bough of honeysuckle and pulled it down, making the flowers shiver, and releasing traces of sweetness into the air. Only faint traces, though, because the buds were still closed over with green. This was a wood in early spring, flowers and plants slowly shrugging off their winter sleep.

"I must have your help to do this," she said, glancing back at the Gangrel. "Tell me about springtime. Tell me about the smells, and the sounds, and the taste of the air as it gentles from winter crisp into the easy green of new life."

Bravely? What was so brave about walking in a forest? Even if it was just an illusion or a dream it didn't matter to Leslie. It felt real and that was important. Maybe in fifty years she would understand the dangers of illusions but now perhaps illusions were all she could rely on for the world was already dark enough and not easy for creatures like her. Leslie smiled at the mention of riddles.

Spring... she closed her eyes and took a deep breath to plunge into the ocean of her memories. What did spring remind her off? A smile decorated her face and made her look warm and very alive. The vividness in the young Gangrel was sometimes remarkable. An old image played in her mind like a movie about forgotten days. A long street filled with trees she didn’t know the name from. When spring came they were full with white and pink blossoms.

The entire street had a scent of sweetness in combination with the humming of the early bees. Leslie loved to drive through that street and the springsnow it created. When the wind blew through it then the blossoms fell down and it seemed to snow. If you thought about it they were actually dying and it was the most beautiful death one would ever see. The blossoms let go of the flower that started its birth to become a wonderful tree while the white and pink fluffy things descended to earth to have their final rest.

It remained silent for a while till Leslie pulled herself out of the memory and remembered that Piscina needed her help. When she spoke her voice was a delicate whisper. ”Flowers. The first sign of flowers and colours coming back alive. All the brown leaves replaced with yellowish green ones. The sun that seems to illuminate the veins in those leaves. The first birds and the bees. The sun on my skin...” She stopped talking suddenly and sighed. If there was one thing she really missed it was the sun and certain foods.

Quickly she recovered from that sadness and smiled again giving Piscina more things to work with even though she wasn’t sure she was doing a good job. ”That persistent smell of wild mushrooms. Frost that melts away in the morning. And my absolute favourite: the chirping of newborn birds in their nests.” It dawned on her that everything she had mentioned was about the day. That was awkward.

"I like the earth cooling down when the night comes. The touch of semi warm raindrops falling on my face and catching some with my tongue to taste the warm slightly iron like taste but that depends on where you are." she added to save the day... or night. She needed to say something about the night after all.

Leslie's words tumbled out of order into the world. First there was the earthy smell of wild mushrooms and wet dirt, rising off the ground, like it had just rained. The night air was chill and faintly crisp, the last moments of winter hanging on. The trees around them nosed out green buds, traced with color as the flowers inside strained against their wrappings.

Birdsong trilled intermittently for a moment, and then with greater conviction, rising from the forest around, as the sky above them grew paler. The night cold was blunted by the approaching morning. But the moment before dawn hung still for a moment, frozen in anticipation, as Piscina turned to look at Leslie, and give her a moment to collect herself and understand what was happening.

"Are you ready?"

Based on the fact that almost all of Leslie's descriptions had wanted sunlight, Piscina assumed that she was. But she'd had customers rotschreck at this point before, so she was always careful with it.

With each passing moment the world created inside this office seemed to change! It was better than watching Discovery Channel or Animal Planet. She could see the changes happen right in front of her. In slow motion the magical forest revealed its secrets to her. Her eyes fluttered around like a pair of wild fillies running through the fields and discovering the beauty of Mother Nature for the very first time. How was this possible?

The young Gangrel closed her eyes and heard the songs of the birds. This was amazing. It was so wonderful but at the same time it terrified her to great extent. This woman could create such beauty and trick her mind without her ever noticing it! That was some sort of magic or voodoo one shouldn't be around but Leslie couldn't help it. This played with her mind so much she needed to know what could happen and what this wonderful Ravnos creature could do.

But when the night sky started to change into a vision she hadn't seen in eleven years the young Gangrel did show signs of her worry. She back up until she was against a tree. Almost crushing herself into it. This was going to hurt, wasn't it? How could she make this light? Leslie hid in crouching position behind the tree and peeked from behind it. Curiosity really would kill this cat one night.

Dawn paused.

The sky was pale, to the point where Leslie felt she should be in pain. Feel the prickling burn of deadly light on her skin. Perhaps the expectation of pain was enough to create the pain itself. Pisces had seen that before. Customers who swore she'd used her greater powers on them, because they created the feelings that she could not all by themselves.

Pisces watched as delight gave way to fear, and Leslie retreated behind a tree. Instinctive movements. Frenzy threat. It was good she'd checked. You always had to check when you were playing with triggers. Honestly, she should insist people agree on safewords before even talking to her.

As Leslie hid, she saw the tree's foliage visibly thicken--leaves overgrowing each other, brushes rising up around it, to shield her from the light, until she was in a comfortable, dark space.

After a moment, Piscina pushed through the foliage to stand beside the Gangrel in the sheltered space.

"Not ready then," she observed gently.

It would hurt! So much! Dreadful pain would come for her but why did Piscina remained unharmed? While Leslie worried about what exactly was going on she saw how nature created a safety for her. Her inner Beast was tugging on her insides. It was commanding her to run, to get out into the night but Leslie couldn't.

The Ravnos entered her sanctuary of leaves. Her eyes were like distant cat eyes staring at the standing woman. "I am! I think. Just... you know... been a while." Her voice was unsteady and squeaky like a scared mouse. "Could you take it slow? Step by step."

The Flemish girl wrapped her arms around Picina's leg like a child in the store trying to stop her mother from leaving before buying that favourite piece of candy. But Leslie purred like a housecat and stared between the leaves with big brown doe like eyes. Afraid but curious and holding on  to the only thing that seemed real in this magic.

Piscina smiled down at the Gangrel. The physical contact had surprised her for a moment, but she liked it. What it implied.

"The forest likes you," Pisces she, touching the foliage that had moved to shelter Leslie. Then she moved on to what was hopefully a reassuring, if still odd, explanation.

"I have a contract with the sunlight in this place, Leslie. It is not the sun from our world, so it does not care a whit about our father's curse. It will hurt no one without my permission."

Everything she said was true. It was a way of seeing things. A perspective. It also communicated in a way that was not overtly threatening that Piscina could, at some point, give this sun permission to burn. She liked people to know that.

"It can be slow," the Ravnos assured her gently. "Here. You can control it."

She Leslie's hand from her leg, and put it on a nearby branch. Her hand still on Leslie's, she moved the branch ever so slightly, and the barest trace of early morning sunshine crept through the leaves, a few feet away.

Piscina then released Leslie to let in the sun at her own pace.

Leslie stared up and smiled a little when Piscina mentioned the forest liked her. Her eyes widened and her chocolate brown pools showed a hint of fear. If this woman had an agreement with the sun then she must be very powerful! And that thought scared the young Gangrel even more than getting burned by the sun. The cold touch of the Ravnos startled her for a few seconds but instead of pulling her hand back she let the woman guide her hand to a branch. It worked like a lever. Turning it meant bringing the sun out. Leslie's mouth dropped and she blinked a few times. Was this for real? Her mind couldn't understand this and her Beast even less. It was hiding away in its cage but with its teeth bare and ready to hopefully flee instead of driving her into frenzy.

Her hand slowly pushed the branch and every now and then she looked up at Piscina as if asking if she was doing it right. More and more dawn appeared and before she knew it she could see the sun. The bloody sun! The foliage she was crouched under still gave her enough shadow to hide in. A trembling hand crept from under the shadow and inch by inch her hand got covered by light, sunlight. When her hand seemed unharmed by this she jumped out the shadow and stood in the middle of the light. She spread her arms to her side like wings of a bird and tilted her head up with closed eyes. It was warm but it didn't burn. Blood tears of happiness rolled over her cheeks and stained her skin and clothes it fell on.

"This is amazing" she whispered.

The branch was just a branch, that ended in some thick foliage that blocked the sun's entrance into Leslie's sanctuary. Just a natural, normal tree branch in a magical fairyland forest inside of a bar in Enfield.

But soon it was irrelevant, because Leslie had made the essential leap--the understanding that this sunlight would not hurt her, which would quiet her Beast and let her experience it as it was intended. And she emerged into the sun.

Pisces followed her, eyes locked on the heedless young woman, drinking in the heedless abandon. The thoughtless expression of emotion. Blood in her eyes. Vulnerable and exposed.

A quiet voice inside

She had expected that. It was inevitable. The only outward sign of Piscina controlling her beast was a slight shake of her head. Then she was back to smiling and watching Leslie experience the sun.

Time was a passing moment that Leslie didn't take in account. Who cared how long she stood there? It had been eleven years since she had felt and seen the sun. This was a miracle and one she wanted to indulge in for as long as she could. The light was seeping into her body and massaged every inch of her being. The sun was smooth and gentle with its warm hands that almost made her glow. The golden globe above her made her happy that much was obvious.

When she was finally able to pull away from the sun she turned to face Piscina. With the back of her hand she rubbed the tears out of her eyes and she cleaned her cheeks. The first tears had already dried up and left a red smudge on her cheeks which made it look like she was blushing.

"That was amazing. I can't thank you enough for this. I don't understand it and to be honest it is slightly freaking me out and making my head spin but this is breathtaking."

Huh? Imagine that pun. Breathtaking! While she didn't need to breath anymore. But the intention of the word remained the same. Leslie wanted to hug and cuddle this woman but her contract with the sun kept telling her mind that she needed to be careful and respectful to the Ravnos.

"Understanding is overrated," Piscina observed quietly. "Experience is far superior. Thank you for sharing yours with me."

The sun departed as it had risen--not suddenly but unnaturally quickly. It set in a brilliant splay of red and gold, a sunset that lasted minutes instead of hours. The forest descended again into a peaceful, restful darkness.

Pisces stepped towards Leslie and touched the edge of her face, examining it carefully as she did. The slight contact expressed care and concern, Piscina took aftercare seriously. There was also perhaps a touch of affection and possessiveness. The vulnerability Leslie had exposed had tickled Piscina's beast, and she liked that, and as much as she had her desire for secrets under control, it still colored her movments.

Regardless, Piscina decided that yes, the Gangrel was at least slightly freaked out.

"That was very brave. Not everyone who comes to me to see daylight again goes through with it. But the fear that comes with bravery takes a toll. You should rest."

Emotionally exhausted vampires had more trouble resisting frenzy, and Pisces did not want a beast mark on her conscience. Or at least not associated with her work.

She gestured, and the trees by the path drew apart, revealing the door to the conference room--startlingly normal in the foliage.

Perhaps it was indeed an experience which was wonderful to have shared but to Leslie this had been a selfish act. It was for her own pleasure and hadn't been thinking of Piscina. She felt a little guilty now.

A soft purr escaped her when the gently touch from the Ravnos came. The Flemish girl had not one thought on her mind that she had stirred Piscina's beast.

"Brave?" she repeated uncertainly. Now that she thought about it this could have turned out quite wrong. Slowly the sun had been sliding away to let the night back in the night. What if the sun could choose between victims? Imagine the sun only being able to target a specific vampire it wants to hurt... that was creepy. The Gangrel had placed trust in the fact that the Ravnos was with her.

Suddenly the door appeared between the trees again. With a big grin she shook her head. "Rest!? I can’t rest right now. I feel so awake. So hyperactive. I need to go running, dancing or something else to slow my mind down."

The young one turned around and skipped to the exit. At the door she turned around and bowed. "Thank you again my wonderful and magical woman." and off she was. Running down the stairs and greeting everyone she encountered. Once outside she disappeared in the night.
