The Times
The Kindred Chronicle
Key Figures
THE MONSTER OF EALING
Last night, several people reported the sighting of a "screaming red monster" in a quiet neighbourhood of Ealing. After a power shortage in the area, a building caught fire. It was then when, what was described as a "man shaped, footless creature" emerged from the flames, leaping, running, and screaming. One woman has told our reporters that the man had "teeth like a wolf, and the face of the devil". Police officers are still trying to get to the bottom of this; neither the power shortage nor the fire have still been explained. A spokesperson from Scotland Yard has stated that the "so called monster" might be a wounded person, escaping the fire.

TRAGEDY IN TOOLEY STREET
The police has found the bodies of three TFL workers in the construction site at Tooley Street. One of their colleagues raised the alarms last week, when the three workers didn't attend their shifts. The bodies of the men have been found in a deep hole, uncovered by the refurbishment works that are taking place in the area. According to the Police, the bodies were horribly mutilated, which has led to the wildest speculations. The names of the three workers are being kept anonymous, following the wishes of their families.

HOROSCOPE
MARCH 8 - PISCES
You are used to making sacrifices, to prioritising the happiness of others before yours. Even though that is a noble attitude, there are times in life where the only healthy alternative is to embrace your own selfishness and allow yourself some enjoyment. Reserve one hour per day to do something you really like. Treat yourself! Your colour for this month is blue.
Echoes from the past ring back into London. Their intensity increases until they are deafening. What once was a faded memory of a glorious time, now becomes a shocking reality. The consequences of actions taken decades ago ripple into the present, altering the lives of everybody in the City. Unguided and blind, Kindred wander around, trying to make profit out of the reigning chaos.

The appearance of four mysterious figures turned the city upside down. Mistrust and jealousy became the official currency of London. Serpents and fiends rise to power, misdirecting the blaming eyes of the Camarilla towards imaginary enemies. Only those with clear vision and the ability to trust each other strive, while the rest run towards a shallow grave.

Room was still some dark wood and the tables were still fixed on the floor. Damn straight, pretty much the same as on the last visit. Fireplace still cold, room still not too crowded. Nice one to come back to, eh ? Closed the door behind herself and looked around. Couldn't see many people around but from where she was, the view was shit. Heavy boots met the floor as she walked towards the bar with the big barrels behind it. The camouflage pants were tucked into the boots and she'd topped it off witha white T-shirt. Today's slogan beamed from her chest in dark letters. 'I'm over 40, please help me cross the street!' Tory had said she'd have to come here to find who she was on the lookout for. She stopped and read the Prince's piece of garbage that was on display. Heh, couldn't blame him for trying! Chuckled and moved on to the bar, planting her ass onto one of the chairs. Wondered who was around here.

The Irishman was standing behind the bar in a simple black button down shirt, black slacks and a folded apron tied about his waist. His blond hair was a tangle about his head and his green eyes was watching Jelena as she moved through the bar. The scar traveling down the left side of his face was a pale pink, thumb thick and traveled from over his temple to down along his jawbone.

"Can I help ye ma'am?"

The young man was calm sounding and polite, his eyes carefully avoiding staring directly at her. He had his sleeves folded back to his elbows and a white rag in one hand. He was polishing a glass in one hand, whether it needed it or not was unclear. He had one golden eyebrow raised in curiosity as he considered the woman and how he might be able to help her.

"Guess you can. Any stuff on the tap you can recommend?" She looked around again. Damn sure was pretty fucking empty here. Might've been the result of the Prince's visit and the happy news he'd brought to the place in his wake. Prince in Anarch territory wasn't good for business after all. At least in her opinion. Ellen turned back around to the bar and blew a strand of hair out of her face again. Fuck that unruly shit! "Guess business's been quiet since Princey paid a visit? Looks pretty fucking empty today. Mind if I ask some questions about the regulars?" Didn't expect many to come out of this, at least at the current state but hey, what the fuck, you never knew, right?

"Well, we've got whiskey, beer, vodka, scotch, all hemogoblin friendly, for those with rarefied diets. Then we've got REAL whiskey, scotch, vodka, beer, for those with more robust digestions."

Lynx set the cup down on the counter and flopped the rag across one forearm. His green eyes regarded Jelena with mild curiosity and a certain amount of caution. She wasn't wrong, not many people DID come here. Lynx did his best not to listen in on conversations, so he wasn't totally up on all the reasons why.

"We're new. People treat new things with suspicion. Then someone blew up the Tripper shortly after we opened. Someone else set fire te the place. Frankly it's a testament te stubbornness we remained open at all. Prince showing up didn't help. Fact that they've spread the location around te other Cam folk don't help. Fact is in the last two week's Jason's had to shoo out more Cam folk than I've had te serve Anarchs. That don't help either.

Then there's the fact that we're an old style Pub. That don't seem to sit well with some folks. Got a real nice reading library stocked upstairs. Good for quiet conversation and spending time occupying yerself. That was so offensive someone set fire te it.

As fer the Regulars, we ain't got any. Cept Ms Sherwood who runs her business out o'the upstairs. If ye'd like te see her the room is 2B."

On the one hand Lynx knew it was stupid to get upset and mouth off to a vampire. She could probably kill him before Jason made it down the stairs. Or make him kill himself. Any number of things. But he'd seen the looks his Club had gotten from some of the folk who came in, who sneered at how clean he kept the bar and how quiet it was... and it bugged him. It was a damned Irish Pub and they could fucking lump it. He was Irish, he liked Pubs and he'd designed a good one. He was sick of folks looking down their noses at it because he didn't have three day old spilled beer on the floor and a film of cigarette smoke growing new life on the walls.

Heh, good thing she'd grown up with that shit and had also gone down that road herself. Chances were she wouldn't know what the fuck hemoglobin was! "Doesn't sound too bad. What do you take for it?" Pretty obvious follow-up, eh? Ellen scratched her head. "Shoo Cammies out? Thought this was some sort of neutral ground or what." Or so she'd thought. Might've missed shit, didn't know about the fire or stuff either after all. "Yeah, heard about the Tripper crap. Curious what'll come of it, but I think it might've helped a lot in people getting their fucking shit together. For better or worse." The Brujah wiped her lips and put the hand back down to the bar.

"Anyone important here though this place was offensive, it wouldn't be here anymore. Sounds like someone thought about what'd be the best welcoming gag for this place. Every place's got assholes, London ain't that different." Sherwood? Sounded like the girl she was looking for had some sort of deal with the owners of this place. "Far as I know there hasn't been anything like this place in this area before. What made you open it and why open it here?"

"Cash mostly. Not many who like to stay off the grid have credit cards and checks are te easy te fake. Ain't easy getting plasma and red blood cells and such. Costs a bit te make legit black market contacts that can actually tell ye where the source is fer the more distinguished palette. Stuff tends te run between a hundred and two hundred pounds a pint."

Lynx started idly wiping the rag across the surface of his bar, contemplating Jelena as he did so. He tried to figure out how to phrase things properly.

"The idea is a neutral ground, but a lot o'folks don't like that. Consider it something of a betrayal I guess. As fer Jason, he doesn't care fer Camarilla folk much. So if they're loitering without paying he shoos them out. But folk who want to meet peaceably can do it here. Which is why we opened it. Te give people a secure location to discuss complicated issues without worrying about folk who shouldn't hear hearing things they shouldn't."

The English language was fun sometimes. He was sure that sentence was wrong n a spiritual level, but it had amused him to say it.

"As fer prankin, well, I don't consider setting me bar on fire te be all that funny, but maybe I ain't the target audience I guess. Anyway, Jason thought people might need a place te meet and talk where mortals wouldn't walk in. What with there being no Baron and all."

Cash. Duh, what else? Stupid question in hindsight, but what the fuck, right? But yeah seeing that background, prices made sense. Also helped with those who just used money to avoid the hunt. Heh, bastards. One of the reasons she bred her lab rats. But yeah, perhaps another time. Ellen had stopped to deal in money some years ago mostly. Too easily lost ot stolen when surrounded by scumbags and other sons of bitches. "Whats on the card for hundred?" She asked. Well, fuck her if she wasn't at least a bit curious. "Yeah, Baron thing sucks, we're at it. Thats why I'm here, to talk to Sherwood about it ad see what we can figure out. Reminds me though. What side are you guys on? You know, the bowler guy, your boss and the othere here?"

"Basic blood with a high dose of beer in it. Or just basic blood. Clean though, disease free, guaranteed."

The Irishman leaned on the bar and considered her question, he rested his chin on his palm and frowned as he tried to consider how to answer these questions without being disloyal to Jason in any way. He didn't want to be rude and just not answer, but he wanted to show people that Jason cared a lot more than he let on.

"Jason was backing Mr. Gar because Mr. Gar had a long term eye. He wanted to focus on one target to reduce the problems in London down to a one two set. They've got concerns about lashing out at the Cam when the Sabbat are free to come in from the back side. But Mr. Gar is currently... resting. I believe he grew a bit to frustrated to desire to continue to focus upon politics. So far Jason hasn't seen any sign that other people of the Anarch movement have that kind of long term thinking in mind. He has... concerns, that be rebelling recklessly against the Camarilla at this time will allow the Sabbat to flood London with shovelheads and drive us both out. He'd prefer a bit of long term planning and careful consideration. That's really all he wants. A carefully considered plan. Less rebellious anger and more careful planning really."

He wasn't sure that's what she'd want to hear, but it was what he was going to tell her. As far as he could tell that was what Jason wanted, what he represented.

Didn't sound too bad, even if 100 per pint would make it fucking expensive to get hammered. None of her problems luckily. Or theirs. Naaaah, not going down that road. That was quickly pushed aside as Lynx told her that stuff about Jason. Ellen felt the familiar feeling of heat that festered around the knot that had formed around her innards and slowly rose towards her head. Yeah, she was getting pissed, but with Sherwood upstairs she needed to keep shit civil. Clenched her fists in front of the bar, she got lucky, the guy wouldn't see it. Keep your fucking shit together! She told herself. Paid more attention to her breath and breathed a few times. Better? Better.

"So, buddy, no disrespect intended, but how often does this Jason guy go outside?" She asked. Not even ironic or derisive. This point she was really and genuinely fucking curious. "Figure it ain't a whole lot. Got the impression he's more of an insular guy who doesn't meddle much. Ain't much of my business, but here's what I get at." She paused and wiped her lips. "You say Jason hasn't seen much of long term thinking. You say Jason'd like some long-term careful plan. If he ain't going out where we are, how will he see what we do? All he got is the snippets that get blown into this place by accident. My manifesto. Some guys coming here on their own." Right, don't get too carried away, stay calm and collected! Perhaps you can make talk something that makes sense to the guy. She blew a strand of hair out of her face. Damn unruly shit!

"We work and pull our shit together. That brought me here. We hide it a bit, but we do. So Jason wants in on it or offer his opinion or shit, all he needs to do is get to where we are, it's not like we've got guards and fences and shit. See my point?" She pulled out a piece of a paper napkin and a pen and scribbled something onto it. Last look and she handed it to Lynx. Simply had two things on it. The name 'Kingsley' and a number. "So Jason got questions or wants to help make all this a better place, he can call me anytime he wants. Or leave a message. How's that?"

Lynx's green eyes narrowed his gaze slowly. So she wanted to disrespect his Master? She wanted just toss around that it was JASON's duty to come tool around and follow them, beg for information. Fuck that. If they couldn't appreciate what he was Lynx wasn't about to beg for them to grasp the fact that Jason was a soldier and a networker.

He closed his eyes and took several deep breaths, his hand finding the white cloth and sweeping it across the bar slowly, one polishing stroke after another. He picked up her written napkin and folded it carefully, taking out a small wooden box and putting it within.

"I shall inform Jason o'yer contact information should he choose te get in touch. I'm jest a ghoul, I don't set policy. If yer hoping te change Jason's opinions on stuff, ye'll need te talk te him yerself."

Because there was jack all Lynx could really do about it, and her respond had just shown him that he was wrong to have really gotten into Jason's take on politics. Since he had just opened Jason up to criticism when he wasn't even around to defend himself.

"That's what I'm here for. Thanks." Sorta. That and wasn't one hell of a mindreader. Not like it wouldn't make shit way easier, but hey. Easy was for morons, where was the fun in that? But knowing that guys opinion in the first place would be a start, she guessed. But yeah, first objective settled, Jason guy informed. He wanted to play with them, great, if he preferred his own sandbox and wasn't interested, well, his call, was out of her hands now. Couldn't to more than offer a hand, he'd have to decide if he wanted to shake it, slap it away or just ignore it. Anyway. Meant the second point was up. "So Miss Sherwood has her rooms upstairs. 2B, right? Need any sort of appointment or is it just 'come in and see'?"

"I believe the policy is to knock on the door ma'am. That is how most people handle things that I have seen so far."

He helpfully pointed to the stairs and the plaque mounted on the wall to announce where the dream weaver was. Going back to polishing his bar as the vampire seemed to come to her decision on what she was looking to do.

Madam Sherwood seemed easily responsible for half his custom, he'd have to thank her at some point.

"OK, will give it a try." Ellen jumped off the chair and put a ten-pound note on the counter. "Thanks for your help. Keep it or use it to give the next customer a discount." His call. Couldn't say she didn't appreciate the help after all. Walked over to the plaque and read it. Right. Couldn't be that difficult to find, eh? She turned around to Lynx again. "Wanna do me a favour? Please don't call me Ma'am. Sounds like I needed to have a fucking butler. I'm Ellen. See you later, Sonny!" Turned around again and walked the way to the room she'd been looking for. Took some time, but she'd found it after a bit. 2B? 2B. Should be it. She lifted her hand and knocked carefully. Door locked solid, but that wasn't an excuse.

Lynx nodded politely to the vampire to acknowledge he had heard her admonition. He picked up the ten spot and added it to his small ceramic tip jar. If someone came up short he could help them out by giving them a bit of a break. That was nice of the woman. He resumed his task of quietly polishing down the bar area and making sure everything was clean and gleaming softly, dust free. It didn't need much in the way of cleaning really, but he wanted to feel like he was doing something and the place was, as often the case, fairly empty.

Once he was alone in the club's first floor he took out a headset and put in one ear bud, booting up some classical music on his ipod so he could listen to enjoyable tunes while he did... not much of anything. But at least it would be pleasant to do. He left his other ear open, so he could hear anyone who came in or came down the stairs. Wouldn't pay to be rude after all.

A few seconds passed, and an odd thing happened. There was a noise like a door opening just in front of her, but the door that Ellen was looking at did not open.

About a minute passed. Ellen could faintly hear, at one point, the sound of a woman talking quietly. Then there was the sound of a door opening again, and this time, the visible door moved in sync with the sound.

A small, olive-skinned woman in a dress and shawl stood in the doorway. Behind her, lay a dark infinity of stars.

There was no conference room beyond the door. Only the vastness of space, and a thin stone walkway, that the woman was standing on. She smiled pleasantly at Ellen.

"Good Evening. Can I help you?"

Sounded like the door opened, but it didn't actually open? Weird. Perhaps some shit to do with double door sets or stuff like that. Gave her some time to make sure everything was in order and had its place. Tory might have found Sherwood trustworthy enough and they did need every help they could get. Never hurt to be careful though, especially when around witches. Didn't want to go home with some of those gypsy curses just because Sherwood felt like it! Ellens hand went up the side of her pants. She'd made sure to wear the tank top that was under her t-shirt inside out and didn't carry one safety-pin in there, as usual, but three. Better safe than sorry.

Took a deep and needless breath and waited. Door sounded as if it was opening again. She stepped aside, out of where she'd be immediately seen from the other side. Another breath. Fuck, was she actually nervous? Of course, couldn't know what to find in a gypsy lair. She spat over her shoulder three times and followed it off with a sign of the cross. After that, she stepped towards the room.

Only there was no fucking room! Just vast fucking space. Oh, and a pathway. Wasn't like the wole thing wasn't totally neat or great to look at, it was. Still the Brujah didn't really expect something like that. It showed, she was pretty taken aback. "Whoa, fuck me... Nah, I mean not really like that but... What the... I mean..." Yeah, way to show you are here for a serious reason, dumbass! It's just in your head. Just in your head. Not real. Just-

"Good Evening. Can I help you?"

The adress snapped her out of her phase. Hadn't looked like a complete idiot hopefully! "Yeah, if you're Miss Sherwood you can. Wouldn't like to discuss that in passing, though. Can I-" Enter and see what else comes at me? "Come in?"

"Please do," Miss Sherwood said, stepping aside to let Ellen pass.

As she did, Pisces took a moment to dismiss a few illusions. The one-way-window-door she had created in the same place as the normal door, so that she could open the normal door and examine her visitor without being seen. She also dismissed the still image of the hallway she had conjured behind Ellen, just in case one of the uninitiated had wandered up the stairs during their conversation in the hall.

Piscina enjoyed the heck out of surprising and impressing new visitors with impossible things. But she was meticulously careful that only the appropriate people got to see them. She would be even more paranoid than this, if it wasn't for the security Mister O'Rourke provided. She would have to remember to thank him for that. It was so pleasant to be working in an establishment where she didn't have to worry about murdering curious mortals.

The platform Ellen walked out onto was suspended in the middle of what appeared to be an endless galaxy. The doorway she had entered through was still behind her, Miss Sherwood was closing it, but the wall around it faded into nothingness a few feet away from the frame.

The platform was a narrow stone path that led out to a round area with two chairs. Helpfully, the stone walkway had guardrails, to prevent Ellen from falling off into space.

Miss Sherwood walked by her towards the chairs.

"I believe you have me at a disadvantage. Miss...?"

Yeahhh... That was the point of no return then. She walked past the Ravnos, attention only half on the way in front, the other half on the person behind her. Most likely she wouldn't see it coming anyway if shit came her way, but habits died hard. Step by step, walked closer to the chairs. It was all just magic, nothing of it was real. The walkway wasn't. Guardrail wasn't. Not even the fucking bottomless pit was. Just some room wallpapered with... stuff. "Ellen Kingsley. And don't 'Miss' me, sounds like I need to have a fucking butler." She walked up to the chairs and stopped. Looked at them. Kicked one of them lightly to make sure it wasn't just some cheap joke. Wasn't. Good. She put the chair back in its place and waited. "What's all this?"

"It is an experiment, Ellen," Miss Sherwood said, sitting in the chair the Ellen was not kicking. "On the nature of light."

She smiled out at the stars, not a wide smile, but a look of satisfaction at a job well managed. There was something happening somewhere off to the left.

"The nature of starlight is deceptive. We perceive less space than there is, seeing the sky a pinpricked pattern of specks, rather than separate bodies with eternities of depth between them. Constellations come from our perspective. It would take millennia to travel between the points on Orion, but we consider those stars close enough to name together."

These were things not learned fro Susan, but from Disney's IMAX theater. Simulating the night sky was not an easy thing, and Piscina had learned a lot about how to do it from the technicians there. And, she allowed herself, done something to help with their work.

"And I a experimenting with light that is not consistently perceived." She folded her hand and looked back at Ellen. "It is tricky."

"It is probably not what you came here to discuss," she added, a little curiously.

Nature of light, eh? She sat down carefully, eyes still wandering around. Their surroundings reflected a job well done, she'd admit that. It was a pretty awesome recreation and it didn't fail to instill the Brujah with awe and wonder. However, she wasn't here to just gaze at the sky, as much as she'd have liked to. On the other hand there was also a sense of scale that slowly dripped into her mind. The longer she took in the atmosphere and visuals around her, recounted the distances and scales involved, the smaller and more insignificant she felt. Perhaps that was what Sherwood'd had in mind with her creation? "Guess it is."

If she did, it fucking worked, despite the really bad aftertaste Ellen got from it as a small voice in her head piped up. It ain't her creation. Just taking it for her purposes, like her people had always done and always did. "Nah, that's not it." She nodded. "You heard about the Anarch concession the Prince spread? Says every Anarch can move into Cam territory if he presents himself to the Prince first and he'll send his contract killers after the unaccounted ones."
