Name of your MiniQuest: Shifting Shadows Number of available slots: 0/4 We are Officially Full. Margo, Clarissa, Franca & Max please report to the Cemetery. Skills required: Investigators & Combat rolls Level of danger involved: 3 to 5 out of 10. Does this contribute to the canon of the forum: It is a Canonical MiniQuest however it is DEEPLY unlikely anyone will actually die during the quest. Unless something really dumb is done. A brief description: Shifting Shadows is a search and overcome MiniQuest. The characters will have to track down the source of the disappearances, find the lair of the creature and remove it to prevent the Masquerade from being breached. Through his spy network the Seneschal Henderson has discovered this growing problem and requested a few brave souls to seek out the cause of the disturbances and bring it in for rehabilitation or destruction, whichever is required. |

So far MiniQuest Blood Use: Franca 3 (Celerity four times) (used 2 to heal, gained 3 - net blood use returned to Zero) Max 4 (Healed three injury, celerity seven times, gained 1 pint of blood) (Max regains 5 points of blood by draining the Nosferatu to death.) Margo 9 (Pumped blood into strength 4 points, stamina 1 point, celerity 6 times gained 3 pint of blood healed one) Clarice 5 (healing three injuries pumped blood for strength two points - takes a lot of strength to break bricks, even old ones) Margo and Max should be feeling the effects of blood hunger soon. They're both entering the realm of hunger frenzy if pushed much further. Edited by Obstacles, Sunday, 14. September 2014, 18:00.

So has Max lost a leg now and can only crawl? Does drinking a kindred dry automatically mean diablerising? I wouldn´t have thought so, and I hadn´t intended him to commit diablerie really. I thought that diablarie requires a conscious effort of will, so it can´t happen by mistake. Well, at least he´s not close to hunger frenzy any more. |

A ST once told us that when close to frenzy you can undeed diablerize by mistake. Still much better than being in a closed space with a frenzying ancilla... |

I edited the post to remove the diablery. I double checked with a Mod who was of the opinion that it required more than just draining the vampire dry. But yes, he tore your leg off. Edited by Obstacles, Sunday, 14. September 2014, 18:00.

How big is the tunnel and how steep? How can one reasonably help one other in a way that physically makes sense? |

The tunnel is very narrow. A lot of the slickness has been burned off by the fire, leaving it gritty and while still a bit slippery still a relatively easy climb for those with a great deal of strength in their hands. While someone of Margo's size would find it easy to navigate a good sized man or woman might find it actually something of a tight fit. It's only about 3' in diameter. You can easily brace your elbows against the opposite walls as your climb. Or push your hands on the top and put your back on the bottom and scooch yourself upwards. It would be pretty difficult to carry someone up the tunnel because of these cramped confines. As for the angle it's about a 70 degree slope. |

I would think the tunnel doesn´t start at ground level, so that you have to stand up first to reach the entrance? So Max would just need help to get up. |

Dave, can be assumed we do something somehow sensible to help who needs it and climb the tunnel, or do we need the single moves? |

Strength Feats Lift 1 Crush a beer can 40 lbs. 2 Break a wooden chair 100 lbs. 3 Break down a wooden door 250 lbs. 4 Break a 2'x4' board 400 lbs. 5 Break open a metal fire door 650 lbs. 6 Throw a motorcycle 800 lbs. 7 Flip over a small car 900 lbs. 8 Break a 3' lead pipe 1000 lbs. 9 Punch through a cement wall 1220 lbs. 10 Rip open a steel drum 1500 lbs. 11 Punch through 1" sheet metal 2000 lbs. 12 Break a metal lamp post 3000 lbs. 13 Throw a station wagon 4000 lbs. 14 Throw a van 5000 lbs. 15 Throw a truck 6000 lbs. Lifting/Breaking [Strength]: The chart above provides the minimum Strength needed to dead lift or break various weights without a die roll. Characters of lower Strength may roll to affect heavier weights than their Strength scores allow for. The roll is made not with Strength, but with Willpower, and is difficulty 9. Each success advances the character by one level on the chart. The Potence Discipline also adds its dots to the character's effective Strength. Assuming that Max's physical body is at least somewhat above average strength for a mortal (which is 2) and a Strength 3, that gives Max a minimum score of 8. At a score of 8 Max can lift half a ton and throw motorcycles like javelins. He is more than capable of climbing the wall like a spider using the strength of his fingertips alone. He could probably drag himself up the tunnel with just his fangs if he had too. He is simply THAT STRONG. The bricks are old and crumbly. There are plenty of small cracks and fissures that a fingertip can wedge into. This is why Clarice was easily able to climb the tunnel despite being physically much weaker than anyone but Margo. If Max absolutely needs someone to help him out because he cannot climb for some reason then he is more than strong enough to just grab hold of Franca's ankle and be dragged up the tunnel like dead weight because at Potence 2 Franca is easily strong enough to get up the tunnel herself. I'm not making you jump through a lot of hoops to get out of the tunnel here. The MiniQuest is almost over. I will say that being drained completely of blood doesn't make the Nosferatu dead. He's just been drained into Torpor and has now sunk to the bottom of the goo. How you deal with that is up to you. But seriously, the quest is almost over. Just relax and let's wrap it up. You all did well. |

TBH if you indeed grab my ankle I'll drag you because I am not an asshole BUT it would mean I am going to climb on my hands only, which you could have done as well. A bit weird (IC I don't know how my mates are actually doing, that is why asking made sense IMO). |

Under the given circumstances Max can climb up there on his own once he´s in the tunnel, so no need for Franca do drag him up, I´d say. |

Speaking with poHenderson we can finish this up in a summary post where he is contacted etc. He will send an emissary in a van to pick up the Nossies. I'll do the summary post which should leave us outside the graveyard with the task completed. Is that okay with everyone? |

I would like to thank you all for having taken part in my first MiniQuest. I appreciate the patience you had with me when I was absent or took a bit of time to answer your questions and I'd like to thank everyone for showing dedication to the quest and posting so rapidly and frequently. I had a good time running it for you and I hope that you had an enjoyable time taking part in the quest. I am not sure what my next MiniQuest will be, if I run one. I hope that I will find a good inspiration to run one again at some point and that it goes as well as this one did. So thank you again for bearing with me as I learned the ropes of running a sheetless diceless story arc. I hope again that you all had as much fun playing in Shifting Shadow's as I had running. Perhaps I'll see you all again in Shifting Shadows 2: The Musical "A Search For More Muck" coming later this fall. You've been a great crowd, thank you for playing! Pink is the color of a defeated bad guy. Deal with it! |

Margo - for me it's okay. Dave - thanks to you for giving us the chance to unlive this adventure. For the musical version I suggest "Dancing in the Muck". |

Margo 'enjoyed' her romp in the underground. She really liked the story and the mood/setting. It was fun and had just the right amount of danger and realism to thrill. Margo is willing to learn tap-dancing for the musical, but she can't really sing well. "To scream... the impossible scream..." (Just a thought) Thank you Dave. |

That would be fine. That van best also picks up Max? Max can´t walk, and a mucky man with just one leg is almost a Masquerade breech, in any case it would attract too much attention if anybody sees him. Playing at DM hasn´t been so much fun for me lately, but this quest was very enjoyable throughout. Thank you, Dave. |
