A part of her wanted to believe they could have dealt with the issue rationally; another part of her, however, was honest with herself... Anyway George was right - it was better to postpone the discussion after the mission. She just hoped not to snap at Max the first time she had to see him, at the briefing or anywhere else. She gave a glance to George's gesture. Sitting there without a table was kind of awkward. The people in the coffee house, however, seemed to have reached a supreme level of indifference; if they hadn't been too shocked by a table being thrown and destroyed with such an unnatural strength, they weren't going to care about the unusual scene they made, either. "Well, power-hungry people are the most likely to desire an office, and they are not the best people by definition" she said, then suddenly she stopped speaking, somehow suspecting she had said something wrong. Wasn't she implicitly calling the higher officers bad people by default? It seemed being ruled by paranoids could make you paranoid as well. "I thought we could have avoided such hassles at least inside the Clan, but I might have been too optimistic" As for priorities, they could have discussed them forever, agreed and agreed again with each other, without uncovering anything new. "Because of course we are those stupids who do the dirty job..." She shrugged; she didn't think highly of people who refused to fight their own fights, but then some differences of weltanschauung were too deep even to compare them. "In the end we can only do what seems to be right and useful, especially if nobody else would do it otherwise. Sometimes I still wonder what they're thinking, but I suspect I wouldn't really enjoy discovering it". |

George nodded. Unfortunately most of those people became self-serving as time passed and he hoped he wouldn't be one of those... "That's true... unfortunately, though there are said to be power-hungry people who manage quite well... Haven't seen any of those here, but they are rumored to exist..." Sighing he nodded again. Optimism could be a problem if it was not guarded and thus allowed to be more than might be good... Also the affair Max had started made him see how much he had hoped to keep politics and fights over offices out of the clan and perhaps it had been a mistake thinking he could do that. "If that's the case I guess I'm guilty of that as well... Optimism is good, though perhaps we should try to employ it more carefully... Where have the times gone when all it took to resolve an argument was a talk or a good old-fashioned fight between family members ?" Here he shrugged, as it was more or less the crux of their existence, though the lack of Gangrel might have made things easier under a weaker Prince... "I'm trying to get us off that track, but it's a long way to go... And the paranoia doesn't make it easier... It's all a big risk, you know ?" With a hint of a smile he looked at her thinking about something. "There are some things I'd like to talk about with you, but here it is a bit too... public for that. When could you meet me in one of our safehouses ?" |

"For how I see it, optimism is a good thing if it means not being resigned, but being deluded doesn't help to any purpose. Then the other issue here is that if you are not accustomed to certain means, you fail to consider than others might employ them". She thought that quoting Gramsci on optimism and will wasn't really necessary, although those words would have been quite appropriate. What followed didn't fail to arise her curiosity: "I am not sure I understand... How is it related to paranoia?" She suspected it could have been one of the matters that George wanted to discuss in private. Which was rather sensible, actually. It was all too easy to forget someone might have been listening... and that wasn't even paranoia. "Just tell me when it's fine for you; I don't have a rigid schedule as a rule, it won't be hard to find a chance". |

On that George didn't say a word but only nodded as if to say 'How right you are...'. "That's a fairly easy thing... Let's say the paranoia of Princey might make a ploy to use the fact there are little Gangrel in town and we are the footsoldiers to get us out of the role of the dumb fools who do everything a bit difficult to pull off without him seeing treason in that..." Sighing he shrugged as that unfortunately was a fact and he couldn't change that... "Tomorrow, 9 o'clock. Do you know where the safe houses are ?" |

Franca nodded silently. Treason, the favourite word of any paranoid. She was now getting a clearer image of the situation. There was much more to say and to ask, but of course not there. "I think you gave me the address the first time we met. We can continue this conversation tomorrow, then". |
