The statue turned and smiled at Oliver. "Thank you." "Hush, Galatea," Piscina said gently. "These people are real." "Oh!" And then the statue fell into stillness again, the surprised expression frozen on her face. Piscina, also settled into repose in one of the chairs, looking at Lessa for the offered confirmation. She looked mildly perplexed, probably at something Oliver had said. |

Lessa blinks. Holy shit, the statue is talking... Why is the statue talking? I'm going to guess it's an illusion of some sort. Did Lisbeth mention what Clan Miss Sherwood is? She couldn't remember, but that was still enough to calm her down a bit. She nods when Oliver gives his explanation. "It really depends on what you call being an agent for the Clan. I am a Ventrue, but the Clan didn't send me. This is personal. Malia is a friend. She was the one that pointed me in the riht direction, gave me the phone numbers I needed to get myself all legal on my first night here. And she never asked for anything in return for her help. I owe her. A favour, since she didn't claim a boon." |

Piscina nodded slowly, and then her perplexity resolved itself into words: "His highness of London is not involved in finding his missing clanmate?" She frowned, but it was not a disapproving expression. It was the expression of someone trying to suss out a situation that didn't quite add up. Ventrue were sticklers for protocol, second only to Tremere in reporting strictly to those most powerful, and came together almost as well as the Ravnos in the face of external threats. Free agents attending to clan matters? When the Prince surely knew of Malia's disappearance from Iakov's letter? That was strange to her. It might speak of subterfuge on the part of her guests, a plot to strike at a rival in a moment of weakness. Or perhaps they were responsible for Malia's disappearance, but she slipped through their fingers, and now they sought to run her to ground, and keep their crime from the rest of their clan. But Piscina really couldn't believe that this Lessa would be involved in such a ploy. True, Pisces had only been observing her for a brief time, but somehow she couldn't put the concerned young woman and foul play of that caliber in the same sphere. So on that hunch, she discarded that possibility. Perhaps there was something to Iakov's fears that the Prince had turned against Malia, and this young Kindred was taking grave risks to repay a debt owed. Or perhaps they were agents of his highness, but there was some possible eventuality of this visit of which the Prince would prefer to disavow knowledge. Fear of angering Jason, perhaps. "Well. That's none of my business," she continued, dismissing her own question. To speculate was fun, but not immediately relevant. She wanted to get down to business, but she needed a few more moments to finish figuring out the telephone. Telephones were hard. So she decided to entertain her concerns. She stood and walked to the statue, addressing Lessa. "You speak with grace, Miss Carter, and I am inclined to think that your earnest voice reflects the truth of your feeling." Piscina reached down into the bowl of water and picked up one of the white flowers. "But your circumstance is strange, to search alone for a friend in a city of your clanmates, and I have had the misfortune of existing long enough to see the painful ease with which sincerity can be feigned. And though Miss Hauke is no dear friend of mine, as you say she is to you, I would not be made an unknowing party to her downfall, should your intentions be not what you claim." She offered the delicate white flower to Lessa. "If you would hold this, accepting it freely from my hand, and swear that you mean Miss Hauke only well, that would lay my concerns to rest. Then I would share what I know with you." Out in the hall, Pisces finally successfully made dialing work. "My Iakov," she said quietly into the base. "Can you hear me? There are Ventrue in Hospitality asking for news of Malia. They know that she is missing. You are preparing to see the Prince, I know, but shall I engage them as allies for you when you emerge?" |

He'd been sitting in his truck in a car park, waiting for a sign. Waiting for Piscina to show herself so that he could wander into the heart of London and seek audience with the Prince. He wondered how Sokol was faring. The hound had been gone an entire night after he had dropped him off in Soho. The tip off from Thresher was all he could go on, and so he hoped the old hound was keen and wise enough to navigate the alien territory in a safe manner. As he peered into nothingness, he felt his phone vibrate against his chest, and he reached into his suit jacket to retrieve it. A sign had come. "Miss Sherwood? Yes, I can hear you." He listened quietly as the elder told him the circumstances. "Ventrue? Were they sent by the Prince? Are they Camarilla?" If the Prince was beginning an investigation on his own before meeting with him, it would certainly call into question what his intent was, to be poking about Anarch territory with his own kin. "I don't know any other Ventrue in London aside from Malia Hauke. I don't know her friends and she doesn't know mine. That's how business stays business." He didn't like the sound of it. Lessa didn't really want to explain that as far as she knew, the Prince wasn't even aware of Malia's disappearance. It would probably just raise more questions. So it was with some relief that she heard Piscina say it was none of her business. But when the woman mentioned the strangeness of the circumstances, she could only nod her understanding. she closed her eyes and reached up to press her necklace closer to her for a second. "I had someone I cared about murdered by someone he thought was a friend. So, I understand your concern, possibly more than most." She took the flower, and looked Piscina in the eye. "But I assure you, that my reason for looking for Miss Hauke is because I am worried about her. I have no ill intentions towards her." |

Oliver could not help but to grin, with the expression of a child's wonder in his eyes when the statue spoke, and he looked to Miss Sherwood, his smile much more meaningful now, as he knew for a fact that it was she. And that she was of the Ravnos, and thus from a People for which he had much affection. Everything came together. Her clothing, and the general feeling that he got from her presence. And after the exchange, though the statue had reverted to stillness, the ghoul, inclined his head deeply. "You're most welcome, Miss," he offered with a brief look for the statue, his words for Miss Sherwood, of course, on whom he brought back his attention. He sobered up though, and did his best to concentrate on what he was doing. But his imagination was running wild with possibilities, and the beauty of what he'd just seen, and the sea of wonder at what else the Elder Wishmonger could accomplish. The mere idea of seeing his family and late Lord again, whole and well... It was a dangerous temptation. And for a moment, he wondered at what it must be not to be real, realizing by that very thought that he was letting himself be absorbed by the intense feeling of realism brought about by being in the presence of this powerful world of illusions. One could lose one's mind around such a power, surely, if one was not careful, he reflected, glancing back at the statue and wondering what else was not real in this room. "His highness of London is not involved in finding his missing clanmate?" Oliver was not particularly happy about that one either; but he knew that Domina did all that she did to protect their Prince, and so it was difficult to fault her for it - on the other hand, it did make things more delicate, and very dangerous in his opinion. He kept a polite attention, and offered a grateful smile when Miss Sherwood did not press the issue. There was another small frown when the Lady offered Doctor Carter the flower, but her words were reassuring, as he knew that Miss Lessa could, indeed, offer such a promise. "I had someone I cared about murdered by someone he thought was a friend. So, I understand your concern, possibly more than most." For now he remained respectfully silent, understanding that this was somewhat of a difficult moment for Doctor Carter. His Domina's questions would come when the time was right. |

The flower in Lessa's hand trembled slightly. One of the many delicate petals turned black. "Truth," said the statue. "But not perfect honesty," Piscina said. Piscina took the lily back from Lessa's hands, and turned to walk a slight distance to the far wall, and drop it in a wastebasket. She did not rush. The illusion had no truth telling properties beyond Pisces' own instinct for lies, but it was pleasingly dramatic, took up enough time to let her speak to Iakov, and did express her take on the situation. She was confident that Lessa was truthful from her demeanor, but the oddness of the pair's actions and tension bespoke of some concealed truth. Meanwhile in the hallway: "What? What was that?" It took a few moments for Pisces to discern where Iakov's voice was coming from, the top of the phone yes, and tilt it close enough to hear him. He had to repeat some of what he said. "They are Towerfolk. They say they are not sent by the Prince. The girl Lessa Carter says she owes Miss Hauke a debt, and cares for her, and has noticed he absence. I judge that she is young and does not lie. The man I think may be a ghoul by how he acts." Pisces paused. Splitting her concentration between two conversations at once was hard. She was experienced with managing the difficulty, but it still made the conversation where she did not need to pretend stutter slightly. "If you do not wish to use them, that is fine. I will be vague with them. But if Sokol finds Miss Hauke, a show of consideration, sending a message of her safety, would go a ways toward securing more allies in this tower in which you considering making a home." |

She could hear her childes grumblings on the other line. "Operating separately from the Prince? Wouldn't these Towerfolk know to inform the Ventrue in charge before striking out to investigate on their own? Wouldn't the Prince have some vested interest in such a matter? The Prince seems to have been informed of this matter by our letter alone. At least, as far as I'm able to tell. Sokol is still away. I won't have any chance of finding her unless he can catch onto some trace of her. If you think this Ventrue and her ghoul are there on honest business, then I'd suggest they go searching for whoever might have had some grudge against her. Is that why they are at Hospitality? Do they know anything about who might have had a hand in this? More importantly, why haven't they informed the Prince? You think they suspect him?" He was getting anxious. Piscina turned the phone back around so that she could speak into the speaking part. Her voice was calm and level and a bit soothing. She could tell that her childe was spooking, and that panic bred paranoia, and wanted to bring him back down to an even keel. "It is strange, but I do not think they suspect the Prince--they are nowhere NEAR fearful enough for that. I am inclined to think that the oddness is a folly of the girl's youth and concern." It occurred to Pisces that Lessa was perhaps someone's catspaw. Kept in ignorance of true plans and sent into Anarch territory with one guard. That fit. Then the man would be the one truly in charge while the woman represented a purely sympathetic plea for help. That would be elegant. That was a vote in favor of them at least representing Malia's enemies. She did not mention this to Iakov, because his desire not to engage them directly already accounted for it, and it wasn't in line with the calm-down plan she was enacting. "They are here, I believe, because Jason knew Miss Hauke." She also did not mention that the Gangrel and his ghoul were enemies of Malia. She would ask O'Rouke privately after this if he deceived the towerfolk and his master desired that she remain uninvolved. If that was the case, the plan would be called off immediately on account of Elder Gangrel, but there was no need to scare Iakov with the prospect now. "They have uncovered another name. That is the other reason I called you. Someone named Margo who is an enemy of your Hauke. They seem to know her and plan to go speak with her. Now my Niko, I have a fetch speaking with them as we speak, and I am about to say whether I will help them. So tell me: what shall I do with them?" |

Lessa frowns when Piscina says she wasn't being perfectly honest. She really couldn't think of anything she was being dishonest about But perhaps it would be best to let that go, for now. Oliver didn't react to that part either. He nodded to Lady Alessandra's words. "Yes, Madam. If you could please tell us how often Margo came here, when was the last time you saw either she or Malia," he said calmly, and thought about it for a moment, "As well, the gentleman downstairs stated that Malia had many enemies, any reason he name Margo specifically? And finally, if you would happen to have the names of any other enemies that he spoke of, this might be extremely helpful to us," he added, his expression still relax, but it was clean that his mind was on the business at hand now. Iakov was quiet for a moment. He settled himself and thought things through as his sire allayed his fears. Jason? The man who owned Hospitality? He must have been that quiet and standoffish fellow he had seen with the Prince the night he made his declaration. How ironic, that the childe and his sire would have business partners at odds with one another. "Alright. You're certain that your Jason was not involved in this? This Margo character. I'd say if they want to look into her as a suspect, good. Let them do the footwork, but if you can, ask where we might likely find this person. A haven address would be of great use. After that, agree to offer assistance to them. Which, I suppose in a sense we are doing, coincidentally. Do we have their names? I may need to mention them if the discussion goes that way with the Prince. Otherwise, they're in the same bucket I am. All I know from my contacts is that there was a suspicious car wreck and shootout in Soho several nights ago. Maybe that'll give them some kind of lead. I dropped Sokol off there, but I don't know if he'll be able to find anything. Maybe they know something about it? Maybe this Margo person hangs out around there often enough." He growled into the phone. "If this Margo is the culprit, awaiting someone to catch on and wants a fight, why not let these gadjo Camarilla walk into whatever squabble is pending? That is, if you approve, Miss Sherwood." His grin was sharp and sinister, and the edge in his voice communicated that clearly. Edited by Iakov Reznik, Thursday, 11. September 2014, 19:39.

Piscina was watched her guest's reactions curiously. Lessa seemed affronted, which surprised her. Could a Kindred, a Ventrue no less, truly consider herself perfectly open and truthful in any matter? Could someone in such a queer situation indeed not be concealing anything? She would have considered perfect truth unrealistic. Had she known they were wired, and had Susan then explained what being wired meant, she would have turned a good half of the petals black for that implicit deception. Ah well. Different interpretations. Sometimes these displays worked, and sometimes they hurt feelings. She settled down into the seat, and nodded in response to their double request. She did not immediately answer their request for speed, taking a moment to order her thoughts and finish her conversation with Iakov, but then she spoke at length. "This Margo has only come once openly, two weeks ago if I recall correctly. That date is not precise--I was not present at the time and have not met the Kindred, but Mister O'Rouke is kind enough to often mention to me those who visit who seem likely clients. I believe Mister O'Rouke explained quite clearly why he suspected Margo--she was the one he most recently encountered who thought ill of Miss Hauke, and fresh venom is motive. I do not know Miss Hauke's other enemies, but I can lend my word to Mister O'Rouke--Dahlgren does not not have her. O'Rouke would not lie about the truce, and Dahlgren would not break it." Or else she had profoundly misjudged the both of them. "The last time I spoke to Miss Hauke was months ago." Piscina paused here, apparently considering how to phrase her next words. Then she nodded slowly. "However, Miss Hauke and I have a mutual acquaintance. He has mentioned her absence to me, and spoken of concern for her." Well, more of concern for the money he was losing, but close enough. "I will tell you what he has mentioned to me, and perhaps it will help you. From him, know that she vanished last week. On Tuesday, or the morning before. From him I also know that there was, how do you say it, a strike." She frowned. "That's not quite right. A shooting. A hit. There was a hit on someone near the heart of London in the place called Soho, on the night he believes she vanished. He found this in the news. He has reason to suspect these to be two parts of the same story." "I believe he would wish me to pass these things along to you, as your purposes move in parallel. It may please him to be of further assistance to you, and I will contact him on your behalf if you wish." "I am confident. Lessa Carter, and the man spoke no name. I approve." At this point, much of her focus was on the conversation. |

Lisbeth came over Oliver's earpiece. "Okay, I think this is all we are going to get. Wrap it up and get out of there." The tall Ventrue then looked to Jeremy "I believe we should prepare to withdraw. I don't think we are likely to learn anything more, sir. The Toreador Moreau seems to be a solid lead." Lisbeth began sending other instructions out to the rest of her team. She asked Jeremy "You will be meeting with Moreau in your office shortly, is that right sir? Are you planning on meeting her alone? If she is responsible for Miss Hauke's disappearance... I am thinking of your security, sir." |

Jeremy hadn´t been aware that Ms. Hauke had sired a Childe and that this Childe had been kidnapped by the Anarchs. "Yes, we end this operation now and drive to the Clermont Club as soon as the two are back." A shooting in Soho? Might that have to do something with Ms. Hauke, and might it have been Ms. Moreau who did that? Jeremy remembered the despair and wild force when she destroyed the glass replica in the Muse. After losing Ryan, if she had lost another person dear to her, that might well have driven her to more violence. "I don´t think she´ll come to the meeting armed. And I doubt she would attack me...but she might try to flee if she´s guilty. You and your security team could be waiting on the corridor after she entered my office? And if she´s guilty she should be arrested and taken to Blythe House." Jeremy hoped so much that it wasn´t her who had done this. Then he would be forced to have her arrested. And then he wouldn´t be able to do much to help her. |

There was a hint of a pleased snicker on the end of the line. "Miss Lessa Carter. Thank you, Miss Sherwood. I'll stay put till you're done and can meet me at the rendezvous point. See you soon." A shooting, the same night that Malia disappeared? While it certainly could be a coincidence, especially in a city the size of London, there was always that possibility that they were related. In fact, at this point, it wouldn't really surprise her in the slightest if they were. And Margo was definitely the next step in trying to find out what happened to Malia. Piscina was right, fresh anger was more likely to lead to something like this. This did not seem like something that had been planned out ahead of time. "Thank you for your help, Miss Sherwood. I'll go talk to Margo next, I believe. Unless Theo has anything to add?" She wasn't really looking forward to that conversation, but it needed to happen. And she hoped that her phrasing would be caught by those listening in. She was going to be the one to talk to Margo. Margo was a friend, if any of them had any hope of getting to he bottom of this without anyone else getting hurt, it was Lessa. |

There was no need to take note on what Miss Sherwood was saying, but Oliver applied himself nevertheless. Practice, but also there was a curiosity as to try and understand what had happened. And why Miss Malia was so despised by some. And more importantly, what Miss Sherwood would try to accomplish, if anything. "Okay, I think this is all we are going to get. Wrap it up and get out of there." In the end, he brought his attention on Doctor Carter to see is she wanted to reply. "Thank you for your help, Miss Sherwood. I'll go talk to Margo next, I believe. Unless Theo has anything to add?" He seemed to agree with that she said and rose from his chair, to indicate to Lady Alessandra that they were leaving - and surely, she would know that the orders came from his Domina. "No, thank you. I have nothing to add Lessa," he said with another calm smile - thought he was thinking: like hell you will! Oliver inclined his head respectfully to Miss Sherwood. "I thank you as well for your assistance, Madam, and apologize for leaving so swiftly. But, as I am certain you will understand, our search must continue," he offered politely. As much as he appreciated Miss Sherwood's seeming kindness and her assistance, and as much as he marvelled upon her illusions, and felt a measure of warmth for how she reminded him of his homeland, he did not trust her, or anyone else in the establishment. And he wanted Lady Alessandra back in the van, and safe with his Stăpână. He was not brusque in the least, but they had not come to pay a social call - they had someone to find. And Domina was waiting. Edited by Oliver, Thursday, 11. September 2014, 20:25.

Like a well-oiled machine, the operation folded up back into the vans it started from. One of the vans started a slow three-point turn causing a short-term traffic stoppage while the other van rolled up to a stop just a few yards down the street from the Hospitality Club, waiting to receive Oliver and Lessa. Lisbeth spoke into her radio to the team members "There is a change of plan. After rendezvous at checkpoint beta, van one will proceed to the Clermont Club. Van two will retrieve remaining team members and wait further instructions." Lisbeth glanced over at Jeremy to ensure they were still on the same page. "Mr. Starling, if you could contact the Clermont? I would like to know right away if Ms. Moreau leaves the club rather then meeting you in your office as planned." Secretly, the tall Ventrue hoped the spoiled Toreador bitch was guilty. She wanted some payback from the destruction and disrespect visited on her and her kinsman at Muse. |

One of the two vans could of course already drive to the Clermont Club while the other waited for Mrs. Carter and the ghoul. "So you want to stay here, and I drive already to the Clermont Club in the other van. If you prefer that we can do that." Surely Jeremy would manage. Why should Ms. Moreau attack him? Jeremy called Roger Cornwall, the Security Chief of the Clermont Club and asked if Ms. Moreau was in the Club at the moment. |
