The Kindred Chronicle
Key Figures
THE MONSTER OF EALING
Last night, several people reported the sighting of a "screaming red monster" in a quiet neighbourhood of Ealing. After a power shortage in the area, a building caught fire. It was then when, what was described as a "man shaped, footless creature" emerged from the flames, leaping, running, and screaming. One woman has told our reporters that the man had "teeth like a wolf, and the face of the devil". Police officers are still trying to get to the bottom of this; neither the power shortage nor the fire have still been explained. A spokesperson from Scotland Yard has stated that the "so called monster" might be a wounded person, escaping the fire.

TRAGEDY IN TOOLEY STREET
The police has found the bodies of three TFL workers in the construction site at Tooley Street. One of their colleagues raised the alarms last week, when the three workers didn't attend their shifts. The bodies of the men have been found in a deep hole, uncovered by the refurbishment works that are taking place in the area. According to the Police, the bodies were horribly mutilated, which has led to the wildest speculations. The names of the three workers are being kept anonymous, following the wishes of their families.

HOROSCOPE
MARCH 8 - PISCES
You are used to making sacrifices, to prioritising the happiness of others before yours. Even though that is a noble attitude, there are times in life where the only healthy alternative is to embrace your own selfishness and allow yourself some enjoyment. Reserve one hour per day to do something you really like. Treat yourself! Your colour for this month is blue.
Echoes from the past ring back into London. Their intensity increases until they are deafening. What once was a faded memory of a glorious time, now becomes a shocking reality. The consequences of actions taken decades ago ripple into the present, altering the lives of everybody in the City. Unguided and blind, Kindred wander around, trying to make profit out of the reigning chaos.

The appearance of four mysterious figures turned the city upside down. Mistrust and jealousy became the official currency of London. Serpents and fiends rise to power, misdirecting the blaming eyes of the Camarilla towards imaginary enemies. Only those with clear vision and the ability to trust each other strive, while the rest run towards a shallow grave.

The red van serving as a taxi pulled over at a park in the middle of Ilford which was the point from which the group was supposed to advance into Redbridge, according to the plan at least. As soon as the last one of them got out of the vehicle it drove back to where it had come, leaving them behind.

And there they were now... Three people alone amidst benches, a couple of trees and a patch of grass. On their own...

Slowly Leo shook his head, when Franca asked him, if he could see anything in these shapes.. Crates most likely, but if they wanted to know, what it was, they had to go inside for sure.

His eyes went back to that small silhouette of a bird, then he whispered to the Brujah, pointing his head slightly in direction of that broken lamp at the street.

Might be, we are discovered already... better expecting some company soon.

While he spoke, he reached to the ground to pick up an about fistsized piece of debris. Glancing back to the hole in the wall the Gangrel said briefly Get ready! His eyes got a red shine [Beast Eyes] to see what happened when he threw the debris inside the darkness of the room behind the wall.

When Leo said to get ready, Franca put the lamp back in her pocket and opened her bag, ready to grab the hatchet. Whatever "company" they could have expected, she was prepared to great them properly.

The piece of debris flew inside in a regular trajectory and hit something metalli inside the hall with a metallic CLANG ! as it ricocheted off the objects and cluttered away over the floor. Nothing else moved inside and there were few other sounds, none that allowed to assume that there was an enemy in hiding. If they wanted to be sure that the facility was clean, they'd have to search it. After all, who would give his presence away to the oldest trick in the book ?

Welcome to real unlife, where you can't just lure enemies out with the simplest move. And where a suspicious abandoned warehouse might also have been really, you know, abandoned.

"We'll have to go inside to explore this place" she said, without bothering to lower her voice since, after Leo's throw, they had dropped any attempt at subtlety. "It might be empty, after all, but we won't discover it otherwise".

It could have been a trap - most likely it was, in a way, but leaving Sabbat minions behind them as they moved on did present other risks. On the other hand if the place was uninhabited they weren't going to lose too much time.

The metallic sound didn't bother Leo too much, could be anything from an empty barrel to a mortar.
He gave Franca a short nod, then slipped through the hole in the wall. His body was tense, ready to evade or parry an attack. Still his eyes were gleaming red, making the darkness non-existant for him.
First the Gangrel took a look around, a small step into the room. Listening and watching out for any movement. Slowly he moved further towards the covered things in the room.
Waiting for his companions to follow Leo reached out to one of the tarps to grab it and try to pull it off the crates in front of him.

When Leo said to get ready, Lessa's hand slid the last few inches down her thigh to grasp the butt of her gun. It didn't surprise her when there was no reaction to the stone being thrown, after all even if there was somebody in there, nobody could play dead quite like a vampire could. She follows the others through the hole, and as soon as she was fully in the building, she pulled the gun out. She wasn't exactly ready for anything, but she was as ready as she was going to get.

In the back of the group, Ellen put the backpack down and put the sunglasses next to it. That shit would only restrain her and slow her down if it came to a fight. Never knew right ? The length of steel bar slid out of the backpack silently and the Brujah slowly walked up to the others, turning every now and then, watching their backs. When the others moved into the building, she followed with her back turned towards the group.

The inside was barely lit by the light that fell through the cracks in the roof and walls. It wasn't as dark as in a bears ass, but most apart from Leo didn't see very much. All the whle, the smell of cold ash, rotting wood and damp mortar filled their noses if they thought of smelling the place out. Darkness surrounded them, the same blackness that was one of the most formidabe weapons of the Lasombra. Rumour had it the Keepers could not only animate it but turn it into something that killed humans it engulfed.

As the tarp fell, it revealed a few wooden boxes with what was mostly litter and worthless junk in it. Things that no one had bothered to take with them. They quickly searched the warehouse superficially, but couldn't find any vampiric or remotely sentient presence.

What now ?

There are traps. And then there are traps. An especially ironic one would have been luring them in a stereotypically 'spooky' place, just to make them search for alledged fleshcrafts in what eventually amounted to a pack's dumpster.

You could have almost heard a Malkavian giggling as he suggested that...

"We aren't spending the night here when we have the asylum to search" she said, heading to the exit.

True, something might or might not have been hiding in the most secretive corners of the warehouse. But two Sabbat were definitely hiding in the asylum. Thereof -

And then there are traps

"Just pay attention - in case we have visits right out of here".

Leo straightened up, when they had searched most corners and crates and turned to follow Franca.

His eyes lost the red glow, when he let the beast eyes expire, not risking to be blinded by a streetlamp outside the ruin. Careful the Gangrel stepped out on the street again, looking around and inhaling the fresh air to get the smell of cold ashes out of his nose.

Looking around and also up the outside of the burnt house just to make sure there wasn't something on the roof waiting for them... Another quick look over to the broken lamp, if the bird still was sitting there.

Turning towards the asylum and checking the space where they would move next, waiting until the whole group was out of the ruin.

Lessa put the safety back on her gun and reholstered it before following the others back out of the ruin. That had certainly been a bit anti-climactic. If only the rest of the evening would go so smoothly. Though, on the other hand, if they didn't find the people they were looking for, they would never know if it was because they left, or simply because they had gone to ground, somewhere. Anti-climactic could be good, but over and done with would be better.

And then she looked towards the asylum and waited for the others. Right now, this was pretty much Leo's show. He seemed to be the one taking charge, and as far as Lessa was concerned it made sense to let him. And so she waited in silence for the indication that it was time to move on.

The bird was still sitting on the lamp, quiet and unmoving. It was rather omious how it was sitting there like a person watching an interesting show on Discovery Channel, waiting what would happen to the protagonist next. But who knew... Perhaps Kindred TV was a lot better than Discovery Channel could ever hope to be ?

As per their instructon they had just mostly received, also group 2 moved on to the perimeter of the Asylum proper. They also discovered the nasty surprises the 'garden' had to offer and made a point to carefully get off those Sabbat's lawn. As with the others, it took time and slowed them down considerably, but in the end, they also reached the main building without any outside interference.

Some windows were cutrained off, others had wooden boards or sheets to keep them closed. The covers looked weathered and wouldn't be much of an obstacle, at least on first sight. The door was closed.

What now ?

Franca had read George's message while she was walking towards the Asylum. She had just started typing a reply when she rose her eyes and saw the other group, already closer to the building. Wait, why were they only three?, she thought with a sudden concern. Then she noticed the big cat that was trotting along and realized what was going on.

Among the three humanoid figures, she couldn't help but notice someone with whom she had a big huge open discussion to deal with - except that, for some reason, she was always delaying the confrontation for GreaterGoodTM, and so she was supposed to do that time as well.

So, trying her best to delete Max from her mental image, she wrote to George: "We're right here. Arriving now".

After George had turned and recognized her as well, what followed included a variety of pointing and gesturing so that group two could reach the asylum as safely as possible.

Once they were closer Franca exchanged a few words with George. It wasn't the right time for a lengthy or loud talk, and the main points of their plan had already been established, but it was good to resume how they hadn't find anything until now.

Talking to group two: "We're proceeding as planned. We're breaking in from the window on the left side" she said, without adding anything unnecessary. Not that she was really deluded to be stealthy, but still...

The plan said they had to enter from opposite sides and proceed towards the center, thus hoping to lower the chances of the Sabbat escaping before them. The plan had also said to seek and destroy the alleged fleshcrafts, but they'd had to do otherwise...

Leo listened quietly and nodded before turning towards “their” side of the asylum.
He felt the soft vibration inside, the growing hunting fever. His eyes started to glow red again and darkness cleared into perfect sight. [Eyes of the beast]

Checking ground and surrounding while proceeding careful to a window which wasn’t covered with planks. A short look inside didn’t show any direct encounter, but still they didn’t know what exactly was waiting for them.

The Gangrel pushed against the middle of the windows frame and as hoped, the wood was weathered enough to crack the bolt inside and swing open. A moment Leo ducked, in case something would jump at the window. His blood focused to his hands he felt the typical itch and strain. His fingers thicken and long black shimmering claws growing on the tips. [Feral claws]

Leo felt the lurking growl deep inside of him. He would have to take care to keep his beast down.

A short look and a nod to Franca then he got up and pulled himself on the sill of the window, jumping in the room. A quick look around and one careful step forward. As planned, Franca followed him immediately. Waiting for Lessa and Elen they checked where they were now.
Quickly gazing overhead and also sniffing for any conspicuous smells, proceeding some more steps and listening if there was any noises, from enemies or their companions of the other group.

With not a drop of Potence, hauling herself through the window was slightly more difficult for Lessa than for the others, but she managed to do it almost as silently as they did. Once inside, she once again pulled her gun out, and clicked the safety off.

She was actually hoping that they did find someone, at this point. Not just because it would give them definitive answers, but also for the selfish reason of the one thing she was genuinely good at on a mission like this one was interrogation. Leo's claws mixed with a healthy dose of intimidation could probably do wonders - but Dominate would be a fuck of a lot quicker. And she did want to be useful, here, for all that she was currently quite out of her element.

The window offered no resistance anymore. Leo and Franca entered first. Lessa followed swiftly and raised her gun after disengaging the safety. The room was dark and the few lights that came in from the now opened window allowed them to make out at least a few silhouettes. Some furniture was in the room, all broken and in heaps. It seemed like they had entered a room that had been redesignated as a storage. Some parts of the floor creaked as they stepped onto them. The wallpapr was yellow with dark stains and hung from the walls in tattered rags in some areas. Whoever had lived here hadn't spent a great deal of maintenance on this particular room.

Ellen came through the window last. She'd left her backpack behind and only taken the most important things with her, such as the flashlight in her hand that she now switched on. With the light on, the room looked even more decrepit and run-down that it already had. The ray of light finally settled on the wooden door that led out of the room. It didn't look like it would be hard to get through if need be, or even be abe to pose much of an obstacle.

Leo sniffed out the place and deemed himself lucky enough that he had abandoned any real use of his bowels some time ago. The sweetish stench that filled the halls would have overpowered most mortal guts, but even so it was revolting and offered enough of an insight what had happened here in former times. The other vampires were also easily able to notice the heavy odour of the place. Perhaps they were able to figure out what it was, at least Lessa and Ellen immediately knew what they had gotten themselves into.

Ellen's subdued voice growled from behind them. "Fucking tomb or fucking slaughterhouse. Likely both."

Franca had followed Leo straight away, her eyes on the place and her mind to the plan. She checked the stake she kept at hand up her sleeve, the others she had placed strategically in her pockets. She checked for what Lessa was doing, since she had a part in the plan as well.

A really careful plan, indeed. The question - one of the questions, actually - was whether Leo would have followed it, after all. At the briefing, she had a discussion with the Gangrel - a discussion that had bordered on unpleasant, let's put it that way - and, while in the end he had seemed to be convinced, Franca wasn't sure of his willingness to follow through.

Her eyes went to the Gangrel; at the sight of him sniffing the air, she instinctively inhaled as well, to get a clue of what...
...was...
...the...
sense of HORRORmassivemurderandtorture that still infested the air.

Welcome to the Sabbat, my friend. Welcome people, this is the Sabbat for you. Welcome to the Sabbat's larder and to the Sabbat playground and to the Sabbat temple and to the Sabbat shrine.

Because she had seen those people and had seen what they did. No way to deceive yourself thinking of enemies or casualties or anything that could have a place in a world that, however unfortunate, still had a reason for its being. That was the tomb of hapless young couples and family men, of teenagers who had violated their curfew, of the clueless and curious, of the innocent and of the sinner - who still didn't deserve that end. Welcome to the Sabbat, my friend.

"Let's go and get those bastards" she said, more to an imaginary audience than to her mates, as she went towards the door.

She had their good reasonable plan in mind, of course - she realized, however, that her hand has slipped to reach the handle of her axe.

This smell… not smelled for a while. Not missed but familiar. Sabbat. Blood, pain and terror. So far he only felt a soft vibration in his inner but this smell fueled open season and the beast under its heavy chains chanted a wild warsong now.
Leo’s hackles straightened up. He fevered to sink his claws in odious Sabbat flesh.

Another look around, senses tensed, listening to any suspicious sounds. Squinting his eyes when Ellen lit her flashlight.
Some more careful steps towards the door, standing at the side of the door frame and gesturing his companions behind him. Just in case… The Gangrel had not forgotten about the assumed fleshcrafts. Reaching out for the door handle pushing it down and let the door swing open.

Come here monstrosity… come here and find my claws, let me bring your miserable being to final death…

The Prince asked for prisoners… we will do as he ordered… Fuck it! This is Sabbat, they deserve nothing but death! Bring a damned bucket then you can bring their ashes to the Prince! We have to follow the plan! Against Sabbat only one plan works... to destroy them! We have orders!

Leo remembered well the heated up discussion with Franca at the briefing. Still he thought if the Prince wanted prisoners, he could bring his powdered ass here and get them himself. Though he was wise enough not to speak out loud this part. You never know who listens even more with a Ventrue in company.

An assuring gaze back to Franca and a short nod then Leo turned towards the door and slipped into the next room. Avoiding to set a foot on the doorstep because they used to screak.
Pressing his back against the wall the Gangrel let his red glowing eyes check the new location.

"Fucking tomb or fucking slaughterhouse. Likely both."

Lessa nodded her agreement to that assessment. It wasn't even just the smell. There was a feeling to places that had seen a lot of death. And while Lessa spent most of her time in Pediatrics or Maternity, she had wandered down to the morgue enough to know one when she was in it. Whatever may or may not still be here, this place had seen a lot of death. And a lot of suffering. Not just a tomb, or a slaughterhouse - but a torture chamber. Bloody hell.

Alarik wanted prisoners. Personally, Lessa thought that was a stupid idea. And she had a feeling that she wasn't the only one. But being in this place, she suddenly thought of one of the advantages of taking prisoners. Leo's claws would be relatively quick. Maybe too quick.

She followed him into the next room. Letting him go first made sense since he was the only one that could see in the dark, but she wanted to be close enough to stop him, to remind him of the reason she was there once they found what they were looking for.

The small group passed through the door and found themselves in a long corridor. the stench was even stronger in here and as the corridor had no windows, it was a lot darker than the room they had just left. None of them except Leo could see further than 10 feet, and most of that was due to the light from the other room and Ellen's flashlight. Leo could see the carpet that started covering the floor about 5 feet away from his position. It looked worn and also somewhat shabby. The wallpapers were thinner and more worn, with far more holes and stains than in the room they'd come from. Leo saw five doors in the distance. One in the mid of the corridor on the left side. Three were on the right in regular intervals. And one big double door closed off the corridor in the distance. There was a dark heap in front of the door. To the Gangrel, it looked like someone lying on the floor.

The flashlight was still moving inside the other room as Ellen moved towards the others. Suddenly, she stopped. "What the fuck?"

*CLACK*

The heavy metal bars came down right behind Lessa with a loud bang and barred them from entering the room again they came in from. In the turmoil, there was (perhaps?) some other stuff going on inside said room. When the dust had settled, the storage room was empty. Only a few spatters of blood and the flashlight that had rolled to the door were proof that there had been a Brujah in there onl seconds ago. If Lessa tried, she'd be able to reach the light and retrieve it.

And then, there were three...

Franca was ready to move forward - towards the center of the building, towards their enemies and whatever was awaiting.

The noise took her by surprise. She turned suddenly, she moved quickly - but not enough to be of any use.

Where had been Ellen there was no Ellen anymore. Bastards. She barely knew the other Brujah, but suddenly she seemed to care about her much more than she'd have supposed. Because they were the Sabbat. They had killed all those people and they had taken Ellen. And they were out to kill them as well, and crowds and crowds forever and ever. So they had to die. They couldn't ever have paid enough, but destruction would have been a good start. Not exactly they most analytic reasoning, she would have thought in another circumstance. But then, she wasn't in another circumstance.

Franca looked around frantically, ready to attack anything resembling an enemy. If there were none, she would have walked on and continued the search.
