The Kindred Chronicle
Key Figures
THE MONSTER OF EALING
Last night, several people reported the sighting of a "screaming red monster" in a quiet neighbourhood of Ealing. After a power shortage in the area, a building caught fire. It was then when, what was described as a "man shaped, footless creature" emerged from the flames, leaping, running, and screaming. One woman has told our reporters that the man had "teeth like a wolf, and the face of the devil". Police officers are still trying to get to the bottom of this; neither the power shortage nor the fire have still been explained. A spokesperson from Scotland Yard has stated that the "so called monster" might be a wounded person, escaping the fire.

TRAGEDY IN TOOLEY STREET
The police has found the bodies of three TFL workers in the construction site at Tooley Street. One of their colleagues raised the alarms last week, when the three workers didn't attend their shifts. The bodies of the men have been found in a deep hole, uncovered by the refurbishment works that are taking place in the area. According to the Police, the bodies were horribly mutilated, which has led to the wildest speculations. The names of the three workers are being kept anonymous, following the wishes of their families.

HOROSCOPE
MARCH 8 - PISCES
You are used to making sacrifices, to prioritising the happiness of others before yours. Even though that is a noble attitude, there are times in life where the only healthy alternative is to embrace your own selfishness and allow yourself some enjoyment. Reserve one hour per day to do something you really like. Treat yourself! Your colour for this month is blue.
Echoes from the past ring back into London. Their intensity increases until they are deafening. What once was a faded memory of a glorious time, now becomes a shocking reality. The consequences of actions taken decades ago ripple into the present, altering the lives of everybody in the City. Unguided and blind, Kindred wander around, trying to make profit out of the reigning chaos.

The appearance of four mysterious figures turned the city upside down. Mistrust and jealousy became the official currency of London. Serpents and fiends rise to power, misdirecting the blaming eyes of the Camarilla towards imaginary enemies. Only those with clear vision and the ability to trust each other strive, while the rest run towards a shallow grave.

The old factory stood alone in the cold night, the wind blowing through the holes in the roof between the faded grey slate, through the rusty metal pipes and the brick walls which were overgrown with moss, the metal doors rusty and the windows that weren't broken were blinded by decades worth of dust. The patches of grass around the building were withered and yellow. A place that had an air of former glory fading into nothing, giving impressions of despair and uselessness.

Inside there were remains of big rusty machines, large storage rooms full of rotting and worm-infested crates and other things turned into rubbish by the merciless grip of time...

George was already there, dressed in black, laying the tools for the first training session on a khaki blanket on a big rusty metal table: a pair of combat knives, baseball bats, a Hi-Power and leaning against the table a Lee-Enfield rifle.

Having finished that set-up he hung some targets on different pieces of machinery and made sure in another corner of the building was enough room for a more physical training approach of running and lifting weights. Then all that was left was waiting...

Roisin shivered in the night air. Winter was coming closer by now. George didn't have any problems with the cold but the small Irish girl did. Even though she had spent times sleeping outside because she hadn't found a safe place she still didn't handle the cold very well. One did get used to it in a way but once you had the joy of having a warm home and bed to sleep in every night your body got spoiled again and the pain seemed an obstacle she yet again had to overcome.

The place where the Brujah had told her to meet was as cold as the night. It gave her the shivers and she wrapped her coat firmly around her. She wondered since when she had become such a brat. And that thought made her smile a little. Since a few months everything had been going good. Knowing from where she came to what she had now she felt rather proud of herself. For most she had Sean to thank and for everything else from the recent nights she had George to thank. If someone once would told her she would find safety with vampires she would have thought those people were crazy but here she was on her way to meet one who would train her. Life sure had many secrets and odd ways of helping you get rid off your biggest worries.

Though living with the knowledge these creatures were the things that go bump in the night wasn't competely putting her mind at ease. As long as she would be able to find herself in the hands of the right vampire all should be well and now George would be teaching her how to defend herself. Well she suspected it would be training in combat because the place he had mentioned in his message hardly seemed like a place where they could discuss etiquette.

The small ghoul was wearing boots that were keeping her feet warm with extra sheep wool padding on the inside, a pair of stretch jeans that snugged comfortable around her, a white tank top that was under a dark green hoodie which was hiding under a comfortable black woolen coat

The building looked like it had seen its better days. Roisin reluctantly walked in and rather careful as well as if she suspected someone to jump from behind a corner. She had no idea what to expect of this and how soon they would start this training. She didn't immediately see George. "George?" came her small whisper. A few birds flew away and startled her. A bit further she saw the man she was looking for. "George!" she said with much more glee than before.

George noticed her and smiled, hugging her.

"Roisin, I'm glad you're here... Welcome to your gym for the next weeks or months... I know it's not the most welcoming or comforting place but it has some other advantages..."

Such as being remote enough that shots wouldn't automatically bring unwanted attention here and not really many people would accidentally stumble into the factory. Walking closer to the table with the weaponry, he took a smaller table and put a piece of canvas over it for her to sit on.

"Well then, could you tell me what skills you already have so I know where to start, so to say ?"

That was a bit of useful knowledge after all and needed as well...

With a happy smile she hugged George back and rather tight. She was cold, nervous, curious and also afraid of what else might follow. She was good at handling herself but no real combat and while she had a tiny temper she wasn't one who started fighting easily. Putting up a big mouth was easier than actually swinging fists around.

The ghoul sat on the table and looked at everything George had displayed. She frowned and looked back at the Brujah.

"I'm not used to guns. So that is something I need to learn. I only ever use my switchblade. I got a few of those because there are quite a few pretty ones you can buy. Picking locks of course. But mostly I try to avoid conflict. I'm small enough to easily get away and stronger than I look."

The Irish girl sighed and looked around. This wasn't the most welcoming of places but it had to do and it was private. She could also go to a regular gym to enroll and get a personal coach for some good workout and gaining strength without looking like a pumped up balloon.

George listened and nodded. She had a point, though sometimes things weren't that easy sadly.

"Alright, so we'll leave the hand-to-hand combat for later and start with shooting. I know you're not really into fighting but there might be situations where you can't run away, you know ?"

He picked up the Hi-Power and handed it to her. Walking to the targets and adjusting them for pistol-range, he spoke again.

"This is a Browning Hi-Power, 9 mm. A quite powerful weapon with an equally powerful recoil. A smaller pistol would have been better but I couldn't get one, weapon laws and all that, you know ? So this one will have to do for now..."

Having put the target in the right position and range he came back and looked at her.

"Shall I show you how to hold it to balance out part of the recoil ?"

"I know there will be situations that I won't be able to escape. Not that long ago I jumped off a roof because they were shooting at me."

Roisin said in a very monotonous way as if it was the most normal thing to say. And to her it actually was. She seemed to hardly worry about such things. Also that night reminded her of Leo and so that made her thoughts go mellow. She was still unsure how it would all go with that Gangrel. Damn vampire haunting her mind and dreams. It was both liberating as scary as she didn't want to lose any thoughts of Sean either.

In all honesty she hated guns. It was the weapon of cowards but she had to admit it was useful if it could gain her some time against the biggest and baddest monsters out there. She held the gun in her hand and judged the weight of the weapon. It wasn't very heavy and she straightened her arms out aiming at the targets. Though aiming was probably not really the right word. She had no idea how to use it and where to look to make a good aim. All she was doing was making one of those movie stances.

"Okay so I know the trigger is to shoot but how to really hold it or to aim is a mystery to me. I don't really trust the movie logic. I suspect that it is much different than they show on the big screen." and so she waited till George would show her how to hold her hands and how to handle the recoil.

George thought a bit on the way he had been instructed by his uncles and other relatives and with assistance taught his children. Then he nodded and stood next to her, pointing and explaining.

"First of all you'd better use both hands to hold it. Sure, it might seem a bit unnecessary but it helps with the recoil and makes for a bit better hold of the pistol. Like this."

If she allowed him to, he'd wrap both of her hands around the grip of the pistol just as he'd been shown and showed. Next thing to come was aiming, so he pointed at the sights and explained.

"Here you see a U-notch at the rear end of the weapon and a post at the front end. You look down the barrel until you see the post clearly centered in the notch with a bit of space at the edges, the light bars. If you point it at the target, it should ideally be centered on and above the sights. That way you'll have a proper shot, not too high and not too low..."

After all, it was not about flashiness, but a steady grip and a secure and sure shot without flashy and catchy but unnecessary moves. Just as it should be.

Roisin let him show her how it was done. She tried to take the right grip on the gun and listened to his instructions. Guns were really annoying. They made too much noise and that was why she liked knives so much. And no recoil with knives. Also no traces of the powder or whatever that got left behind on your hands. U-notch? With a frown she looked at the gun and tried to do it good.

With both her hands she held the gun and "aimed". Softly pulling the trigger. Or did she had to squeeze it? Both eyes open? Or one closed? A few shots got fired but none really hit the targets as she had jumped back and had underestimated the recoil. With wide eyes she looked at George and started laughing. "This is awesome!"

The power a weapon had when fired was so unexpected but she loved it. Her hands were still feeling the vibration. "I did miss though." she said with a shrug. And immediately she tried again by firing a few rounds again. A bit closer to the targets but still not good enough. It echoed through the building and made a few birds fly up. "Any more tips?"

George scratched his head not sure where to begin, when suddenly the echo of his fathers' voice when training new recruits sounded in his head and he knew what else to correct... Folding his hand he circelled around her before nodding to her question.

"Yes, I do have some more tips. First of all it'd be better to close the eye with which you're not aiming. Also a good secure stand is important. For that you'd spread your legs a bit to achieve it, helps a bit with the recoil as well..."

Looking at the marks where the bullets had hit he frowned but when he turned back to her he was smiling.

"You're doing good for the first time actually... I've both seen and heard of worse results achieved by people without experience on the shooting range..."

His circling around her made her nervous. She felt like a prey waiting to get attacked any damn minute now. Even though she didn't need to fear George she did feel that awkward knot in her stomach. After all there was always danger lurking beneath the surface of these creatures. George had explained that to her more than enough.

Done and done! She thought while she adjusted her stance to way he had described. Roisin aimed but didn't fire. It was just to see how much the view changed with one eye closed. Which eye was good? Well she would have to fire shots to test that out. When he stood still and investigated her previous attempt she looked at her trembling hands. This was crazy. Guns scared her but now the power was rushing through her. It felt wrong.

The moment he faced her again she laughed. "You are such a bad liar!" but it was heartwarming he tried to make her feel good so to not damage her self-esteem.

With a wave of her hand she ushered him to leave her view and once he was safely away from her she took the correct stance. A few bullets got fired while closing her left eye and then a few while closing her right. It seemed that they both were easy to aim with. Not much aim yet as she had still missed but two bullets that did reach the target. With a big grin she looked at George. "What about that boss?"

George nodded, though he did with a small smile and a wink. Then he took a step to the right, still remaining present but no longer obstructing her vision.

"Merely exaggerating a bit to help you build confidence... Yes, I'm not good at that and for a reason. Lying isn't good and corrupts your character so I try to avoid it when I can."

Still smiling he examined the target again, nodding approvingly.

"Decent. With some more practice you have the potential to become really good, though some people I used to know would say I shouldn't tell you that..."

The ghoul lowered the gun and frowned while thinking. He doesn't like to tell lies? That was weird, wasn't it? A vampire was supposed to deceive and keep the Masquerade alive. Basically he was lying every night. Constantly even. Roisin was no angel. Her profession prevented her to be honest. The world was no honest place.

"We live because of lies. I don't understand that you think that. I'm corrupted then and I don't mind. I had to survive. Lying was a part of that but I won't with you of course. It's only under certain circumstances that I need my white lies."

Roisin handed him the gun and walked to the table with other weapons. He still hadn't forbidden her to do her job. Would he ever do that? At the moment all he wanted to know was where she was doing something so he would be able to tell her whether or not she was invading Kindred grounds. It could change. He made the rules so he could change them and apply them the way he wanted it.

George nodded. At some point he could see her perspective but he didn't expect her to understand his. Might sound a bit hypocritical to her, after all...

"I know. At least to me there is a difference between lies and necessary corrections of the truth for survival, you know ? There are things where the truth isn't good and bending the truth is necessary for the Masquerade or other important reasons..."

Taking the pistol he put it back into the holster and watched her going back to the table where the weapons were. Arching an eyebrow inquisitively he raised his voice a bit.

"What now ? Knives ? Bats ? Perhaps some unarmed melee ?"

Roisin watched him. She had a very straight forward view about certain things. Sometimes there was no grey area but only black or white. Vampires and their ideology didn't always make sense but then again she was a ghoul and had no need for such beliefs. All that mattered was that she served George. While she liked to do that and felt the need for that due to the blood forcing such behaviour on her mind it was also a bitter pil. The restraints it put on her were heavy but she carried them no matter what.

"Unarmed melee sounds good." was all she said. Her mind was turning and meanwhile she took off her coat and placed it on the table. Her green hoodie now revealed.

Her eyes pierced at him. He was taller than her. Wide shoulders. This was not going to be easy to get him down. Or was it going to be about getting loose from him.

"How do you want to do this? You can grab me and I can try to get loose? Or you attack me?" a small wicked grin was playing on her lips.

George nodded with a smile and rubbing his hands he came closer while Roisin took off her coat.

"Alright then, we'll see what you can do, right ?"

Stopping after a few steps he raised his fists and looked at her challengingly while watching her grin.

"Prepare to defend yourself."

When he raised his fists she shrugged and wondered how this would go. A real fight was when they didn't hold back. "You know with you just standing there it won't be much practice." she chuckled and came forward. She made the habit out of not hitting first and watching the other one. Then she walked around but kept her eyes on him like a circling predator. Which was actually funny knowing George was the vampire and she the ghoul. Would he use his abilities? Trick her into failing? Any other vampire who didn't have her best interests at heart would surely not go easy on her so would George for the sake of practice?

George just nodded with a smile as she was right of course. Though this here put him in a difficult situation: Holding back wasn't good, as it meant not fighting with full focus on the training but putting her in hospital wasn't good as well...

"Aye, that's true..."

Then the smile vanished and he concentrated on the powers his blood now had. Especially on those that enabled him to hit harder and jump further. A certain degree of harshness had to be included according to his dad and with that, he had a point actually...

After a short nod he threw himself at her fists first, hoping he wouldn't dish out more than she could handle...

The problem with this was that she was expecting what could come. She was at ease and trusted George. Of course this way she could see what he could do exactly with the disciplines he had. She was a bit afraid but she was able to step aside the moment he came at her and hit his fists away. She laughed as she knew he was holding back. Both of them needed to get into this. "What can you do exactly George? Can you show me?"

She remembered the way he had broken that door at Toran's shop. So his strength was extreme. Roisin was well aware he could hurt her though and she also felt it when he came at her the second time. For a few seconds she stumbled back and she rubbed her shoulder. Okay, playtime was over! The girl ran to him and wrapped her small frame around his waist. One arm going around his neck and the othe hitting his chest with her small fist. "Tag! If this was a stake you were now asleep." Most likely not but she had fun in believing so! Did they actually sleep during being staked? That was a question for later.

"I hate to spoil your fun but it isn't that easy... You'll have to break the resistance a vampire puts up and thats where powers get into play..."

George smiled and shook his head slightly, as that wasn't half the truth. She still had much to learn but that was why he did this here, after all... For a moment he let her enjoy her victory before quickening his reflexes. Then he grabbed her arm and carefully twisted it around in order to force her to loose her grip and then pushing her to the ground.

"That's for example what I can do... If I wanted I could reduce you to a stain in a hole in that wall or the floor and I'm not very old, so others could do much worse to you... That's why I hesitate having you doing full duty, you know ?"

Her grin was still on her lips even when he forced his strength on her arm and twisted it in such a way that she was forced to twist her body with it so her shoulder would not get dislocated. The ghoul dropped down on her knees and her arm was still up in his grip. This way she released some tension that was going through the muscles in her arm. She blew a few strands of loose hair out of her face.

"Okay. I get it. But I don't know what it will give with a real opponent. The fear will be different then. My mind is focused now. I know I have a lot to learn."

Now her free running skills came in handy. She placed her free hand on the ground and pushed herself up in the reversed way of how George wringed her arm. This way she came back in regular position with her arm and she was able to pull herself loose. She wanted to slap him in the face and immediately felt a sting inside at that thought. She could not hurt him or try. His blood didn't allow that. "This is harder than I thought. I tend to avoid close combat for a reason."
