The Kindred Chronicle
Key Figures
THE MONSTER OF EALING
Last night, several people reported the sighting of a "screaming red monster" in a quiet neighbourhood of Ealing. After a power shortage in the area, a building caught fire. It was then when, what was described as a "man shaped, footless creature" emerged from the flames, leaping, running, and screaming. One woman has told our reporters that the man had "teeth like a wolf, and the face of the devil". Police officers are still trying to get to the bottom of this; neither the power shortage nor the fire have still been explained. A spokesperson from Scotland Yard has stated that the "so called monster" might be a wounded person, escaping the fire.

TRAGEDY IN TOOLEY STREET
The police has found the bodies of three TFL workers in the construction site at Tooley Street. One of their colleagues raised the alarms last week, when the three workers didn't attend their shifts. The bodies of the men have been found in a deep hole, uncovered by the refurbishment works that are taking place in the area. According to the Police, the bodies were horribly mutilated, which has led to the wildest speculations. The names of the three workers are being kept anonymous, following the wishes of their families.

HOROSCOPE
MARCH 8 - PISCES
You are used to making sacrifices, to prioritising the happiness of others before yours. Even though that is a noble attitude, there are times in life where the only healthy alternative is to embrace your own selfishness and allow yourself some enjoyment. Reserve one hour per day to do something you really like. Treat yourself! Your colour for this month is blue.
Echoes from the past ring back into London. Their intensity increases until they are deafening. What once was a faded memory of a glorious time, now becomes a shocking reality. The consequences of actions taken decades ago ripple into the present, altering the lives of everybody in the City. Unguided and blind, Kindred wander around, trying to make profit out of the reigning chaos.

The appearance of four mysterious figures turned the city upside down. Mistrust and jealousy became the official currency of London. Serpents and fiends rise to power, misdirecting the blaming eyes of the Camarilla towards imaginary enemies. Only those with clear vision and the ability to trust each other strive, while the rest run towards a shallow grave.

Percy parked the rented car in the carpark of Kingston College.

“I really should fetch my car from Germany, I hate rented cars. It somehow smells so odd in here, and I really don’t like the thought that a hundred other people have already used the same car.”

For the similar reasons Percy hated Public Transport, of course, even more so, as he would possibly have to be in the presence of people who disgusted him.
The Professor rolled his eyes.

“You’re really good at complaining, aren’t you. Your life would be so much easier if you weren’t so fussy. A car is a car. That it drives is what matters.”

And for sure Valerius didn’t care in what kind of car he was driving.

They got out of the car. They were quite a contrast visually. Percy was wearing an expensive and elegant looking beige suit (that didn’t look like a business suit), no tie and a dark red silken shirt.
Above that he wore a long woollen grey coat, that looked elegant and expensive as well. He had left the coat open.
Mortals might well have thought that Valerius was Percy's assistant and not the other way round, because the Professor’s clothes were so ordinary. Black and not expensive looking. Black trousers and a black suede shirt that didn’t exactly look elegant, and a black leather jacket that looked quite used and anything but elegant.
And Percy looked good-humoured as mostly, whereas the Professor had his permanent sour, grumpy expression, that told people “don’t mess with me” without spelling it out. A rich man with his bodyguard one might well have thought.

Percy straightened the Professor’s collar, the Brujah didn’t like that of course. Nevertheless Percy kept doing that almost every night, even though he got pushed away every time.

“You’re still using that old tatty jacket? We could get you a new one, no need to look like that.”

“What’s wrong with the jacket? There are no holes in it, it’s still perfectly alright. I’ll put on something more elegant at Blythe House, but why should I do that now? I want to go there in my normal clothes. I'm aware you don’t like my normal clothes.”

“Well, you would be wearing clothes with holes in it if I didn’t take care you get new clothes from time to time.”

“As if it’s of any importance what damn clothes I’m wearing.”

Percy thought to himself that it was time to let that old jacket “disappear”, so that he could buy a new one for his Professor.

“Now then…we go to that room, you stay as long as Primogen Harris and I want you to stay and answer his questions. But...no arguing, whining or complaining in his presence, understood?”

“Yes, Professor.”

As soon as they entered the college Percy didn’t talk any more. They finally found room 306. The Professor looked at his watch. They were even a few minutes too early. They waited until it was exactly 10.30, and then (if the door was closed) the Brujah knocked on the door.

The door was closed and so the man had to knock. However his knock had barely been able to create an echo through the hall when the door already swung open to reveal the image of someone else but George. It was his Irish ghoul that stood in the doorway. Her soft red lips were curled up in a caring smile. Her dirty blonde curls were tied together with a dark green ribbon. Her icy blue eyes flew from one to another before she bowed to them and greeted them.

"Good evening. I hope you had a safe journey. Mr. Harris is awaiting your arrival Professor Raabe. Come inside and be seated."

Came her Irish tongue while she invited them inside with a swinging gesture of her hand. For a moment her eyes traveled up and down the young man but not for long as she didn't mean to be rude. She folded her hands demurely in front of her and stood there next to George who was sitting behind a desk. She was dressed in a black dress with lace decorations. She was wearing black heels to be that little taller than her regular 5 ft 1.

Roisin was nervous. This was her first official ghoul moment. It was exciting but scary as well as she didn't want to disappoint George. It was time to roll into this way of life with a smile and a good dose of learning mentality.

For one moment the Brujah wondered if he had knocked on the wrong door when it opened and he saw a young woman. But then she greeted him with his name. And bowed, so she was surely a ghoul.

“Good evening” he greeted the woman.

“Good evening, nice to meet you. Yes, we had a safe journey.”

Percy smiled at the woman in a charming and so obviously flirtatious way, and the Professor regretted instantly that he hadn’t told him “no flirting”. But Valerius hadn’t expected such a young looking, attractive woman to be here.
At least there was no danger that Percy would try to flirt with the Primogen, as he didn’t look young and handsome enough for that.
The Professor stepped into the room first, followed by Percy.

“Good evening, Primogen Harris. I’m Professor Raabe, and this is Mr. Percy” the Brujah said politely to the Primogen.

Might the Primogen want to shake hands? If he offered his hand the Professor would shake it.
All that bowing was one of the awful, negatively old-fashioned things of the Camarilla. Neonates bowing to Ancillae, ghouls bowing to kindred…
Hopefully Percy wouldn’t bow. But surely Valerius could rely on it that his arrogant little Duke wouldn’t bow to anybody? And indeed, Percy didn’t bow, luckily.

“Good evening, Primogen Harris.”

Percy smiled, but this time just politely. He sat down after the Professor had sat down.

George who was dressed in all-black with a green turtleneck put the newspaper he had been reading until now away and looked up to see his guests had arrived. He stood up and offered his hand to the Professor and his companion while smiling friendly and looking at them.

"Good evening, it's a pleasure to meet you. Please take a seat and make yourself comfortable. I'm afraid I can't offer you refreshments but if you want I can arrange for some..."

When Percy adressed him as Primogen he raised an eyebrow and shook his head.

"We're not in a formal setting and among family, so just George is enough, I'd say... I must admit, your request is quite unusual so I'd like to know how I can be of assistance and what brought you to seeking my help with those things..."

Then he waited for an answer while still smiling politely. He was very curious to get to know why an Anarch wanted to collar himself and get into the system and on record.

The Professor and the duke both shook the Primogen's hand. Percy's handshake wasn't quite as firm as the Professor's.

"O.K., so I call you George. And you're welcome to call me Valerius...that's my chosen first name, I hate my official first name. Nobody calls me Fridolin."

"I don't like my real first name either. To be called Percy instead of Mr. Percy is fine in informal settings."

Percy turned towards the woman.

"And what's your name?"

Valerius noticed that Percy felt at ease, and that made the Professor relax a bit more, too.

"Well, I suppose most Anarchs avoid dealing with the Camarilla, even with members of their own clan. I've been part of the Camarilla myself, the first two years after my embrace. And during that time I had friends, mostly Brujah, so why should I hate the Brujah of the Camarilla generally. I just hate my Sire. If I had a less oppressive Sire I might still be a Camarillamember, who knows. Most Brujah are quite lax, but my Sire wasn't, so I was simply unlucky. He tried to hammer the Camarilla doctrines into me, he sent me to fight against the Sabbat, I saw my friends die, and after that I had enough of the Camarilla and wanted to be free.
I suppose the concept of freedom is different for everybody. I don't see it as freedom if I have to live in an Anarch ghetto, sort of. That's at least what it would feel like to me, if I'm limited on being in Enfield.
And Percy wants to be in the good parts of the city. I'm not sure if the Prince of London would see it as a violation if a ghoul of an Anarch roams in Camarilla areas. But I'd prefer not to take the risk that Percy gets killed by some overeager Scourge.
I personally don't mind much if I wear cheap or expensive clothes, if I live in a good or bad area. I don't mind if I can't have a shower for a week and spend many days in the jungle. Well, as an archaeologist you better shouldn't be squeamish. But I can't take Percy on any expeditions."

"No, I don't crawl through any jungle or desert with you. And I don't want to live in Enfield. I'm not even sure I yet if want to live in Syon House. The house itself is magnificent, and also Syon park that borders the Thames...on the other side of the Thames is Kew Gardens. But the area around it...has gone quite downmarket by now. And there's quite a lot of noise from all those planes landing at Heathrow. Well, my ancestors couldn't forsee that."

The way Percy spoke sounded very upper-class, and like someone from the north of England.

"We knew each other already before my embrace. Percy was my student when I was still teaching at Oxford university. I'm still not quite sure why you chose Archaeology."

"Me neither. But I had to choose something. I didn't even want to study, I just did it because my father wanted me to. And then you vanished and everybody thought you were dead."

"But I came back to fetch you as soon as I had freed myself from my Sire."

The Professor laid his hand on Percy's hand and held it. Percy looked at him lovingly.

"Yes...I'm so glad you came back. And you promised me I would never have to live in some ramshackle hut in a bad area."

"We are very different from each other, and different than most Anarchs, that's not always easy, but I'd do a lot to keep my Duke satisfied."

"Oh really? I should test that."

Percy smirked.

"Percy is a real Duke...the Duke of Northumberland. So he's accustomed to a very different lifestyle than I am."

"I'm posing as my own son now, who exists only on paper. And peers who knew me about 40 years ago say 'You look soo much like your father'..."

He smirked again.

"So - in any case Syon House is in Camarilla area, and it would not be so ideal to posess something that we can't even get access to."

"I suppose it's part of Hounslow these days? I'm not quite sure. It used to be part of Middlesex in the past, but they changed that. No, it's not really the best area these days.
But Syon House was acquired by Henry Percy, the 9th Earl of Northumberland, in 1594 and has remained in my family ever since. So for sure I don't want to give up on my London family residence and would like to be able to go there whenever I want. Alnwick castle belongs to me, too, it's the principal seat of the Dukes of Northumberland, but I don't want to live that far up north any more. I'll show you some photos of Syon House."

Percy took some photos out of his breast pocket and showed them to George, explaining eagerly.

"That's what it looks like from the outside, a bit like a castle. It looks a lot better inside. That's the Anteroom, and the next picture shows the Great Hall, then there's the State Dining Room and the Long Gallery. And this is a photo of the Conservatory.

Syon House and the Conservatory get used for weddings and celebrations, and for films. It has been the setting for more than ten movies, including 'Gosford Park'. It also gets used as a location by magazines and fashion houses."

"Oh dear, you need an army of cleaners to keep that house clean...it's a nice house, yes, but I wouldn't want to live there."

"At the moment Syon House is still open to the public. I'm not sure if I want to live there if hundreds of people are walking through my house every day. But at least I would like to go there whenever I want...it would be a bit bad if I can't even go to my own house...and the worst would be to lose it..."

Percy looked worried.

"I'm sure we can sort that out somehow, don't worry."

The Professor took Percy's hand again and pressed it.

"Do you think you can help us with that?" Percy asked George and looked at him.

"I would think it would help our aim if you join me on my presentation and support me.
I saw that Anarch Concession in 'the Dream'. Do you think the Prince really has a positive attitude towards Anarchs and wouldn't try to brainwash me with disciplines? I would think a Brujah can always make himself useful somehow in a domain, and I would be willing to do that, but I don't want to get enslaved somehow of course. I'm sure the Prince would be less likely to play any dirty tricks on me if you are present."

And there it began: oppressive Sire, friends died, fed up with Cam... By God wasn't that what many deserters said in other words ? Seemed to be a mass movement but as the Sire wasn't reachable it might be better not to dwell on that...

George sat down again and listened with a blank expression and a nod every now and then. Until the part came where the reason for wanting to go on record and all that could be summarized as 'Percy wants'... With a confused expression he looked at both of them and stopped the trail of words from his guests, getting up.

"You're kidding me, right ? You're putting yourself into a quite undesirable position and many potential traps just because you both don't like living in the North ?"

He looked both a bit annoyed and angered, as the constant digressions were getting on his nerves quite a bit. Gritting his teeth with growing frustration he listened for a bit more than cut them off again.

"I have the impression you don't really know what you're getting into, what you're asking of me and what would change for you... Could you FOR THE LOVE OF GOD stop digressing for ONE BLOODY MINUTE ?"

Visually more angered he took the pictures and examined them while thinking about what to do... The easiest way would be to throw them out, quite literally... But perhaps they'd change their minds once they knew all the facts so that wouldn't be necessary yet... Once finished thinking he threw the pictures on the table and looked at master and slave, which apparently was a subversed-role show here...

"There are a few facts you should consider, before you take your decision. Listen and listen well, for there might be a few surprises for you... First of all, the lay of the land. I don't know if you know it, but Hounslow is Nosferatu domain and I don't know whether you and them could be good neighbours, you know ? They could feel disturbed by people not their kin living among them..."

Making a short pause to let the words have an effect he walked through the room and started speaking right behind them while walking on.

"Next point: the concession. I don't know how thoroughly you've read it, but there'd be a few minor inconveniences after accepting it... As I understand it, you'd become 'acknowledged residents', which might give you the right to live about everywhere, but you'd have the same duties as all the other 'acknowledged residents' which mean you'd effectively quit being an Anarch and become one of us with your own set of favours to own the Prince and your very own dossier in his cabinet and I doubt that's what you want, right ?"

With a grin resembling a shark's he looked at the spoiled little duke and nodded before continuing with a spark of maliciousness in his eyes and a bit of sarcasm in his voice.

"Furthermore it'd mean His Graciousness would have to join the unwashed masses of ghouls and actually bend to our ruleset when appearing in public which would mean shutting up and bowing everytime a superior shows or speaks up. Just for the record every Kindred would be your superior for that purpose... Wouldn't that be a tragedy, milord ?"

Sitting down again he fell quiet for a while looking at their reactions before speaking again.

"I'll give you a moment to consider the costs and drawbacks before you decide if you want to still do that or not..."

Sure, that wasn't really fair or anything, but at this point he didn't want to be. After all, a little test to see if they were really wanting to get into all that mess couldn't hurt, right ?

The Professor felt more and more anger welling up inside him. Soon he regretted to have taken Percy with him and to have let him chatter and banter freely, as it turned out that it was going on George´s nerves. Valerius wasn´t angry at Percy though, because at least in the Professor´s opinion he hadn´t done anything wrong.

Hounslow was Nosferatu area?

"Well, if we don´t use it as a haven, we wouldn´t be living among the Nosferatu."

Percy had wrongly assumed that he could simply be himself here. But then he was mocked by the Primogen. Valerius saw that this hurt Percy, and that the ghoul felt uncomfortable. The Duke picked up his photos and fell silent.
Valerius should have spared him such a disgrace. He should have spared himself this, too.
Only the Professor himself was entitled to mock his spoiled brat, Valerius couldn´t stand it if anybody else did that and dared to hurt his Duke´s feelings. That´s why he usually avoided it to take him with him when Valerius met with other kindred.

The way George looked at Percy and mocked him, that brought the Professor close to frenzy in no time. He had to suppress the impulse to attack the other Brujah. The Professor managed to pull himself together, but only just about. He looked very grumpy.
George gave him time to consider the possible drawbacks? The only thing that was important to consider right now was how to avoid falling into frenzy. The first step was to send Percy away. One more bad word from George to or about Percy, and the Professor might jump at George, trying to rip him to pieces. It was really hard not to attack the other Brujah, but instead just to sit there calmly.
But he mustn´t frenzy, not now, otherwise he wpuld be seen as a troublemaker and might as well leave London immediatly.

"Percy, go back to the car. Don´t say anything, just go. Now."

He said that in a strict way that didn´t allow any protest. It had to be avoided that it could happen again that George mocked Percy. Because Valerius might not be able to stop himself from falling into frenzy then.
Percy noticed that the Professor was close to exploding. The ghoul looked nervous. He did as he was told, he got up and left the room hastily without uttering another word. After the door was shut there was silence for a while, and Valerius used those moments of silence to gain enough self-control to remain polite.

"You wanted to hear details about the whole matter, also from Percy himself...so now you have heard it and don´t like the way we are and our motives to come to London. Yes, I´m doing this for Percy, and I spoil him as much as I like to. Maybe you don´t like that either. Fair enough. I´m used to it not to be everybody´s darling."

So what was that talk about "family" in the beginning? Not worth a lot, it seemed.
But Valerius didn´t want anybody´s help anyway who hadn´t minded to degrade Percy.
The Professor just about managed to remain polite, but there was an icy undertone, and inside the Brujah was still boiling. His calmness was just on the surface and might not last long. If only now came no further provocation. Wouldn´t it have been better to simply storm out of the room? Well, he could still do that if there came any further insult. That might be the only thing to stop him from frenzying. To concentrate on thinking and talking helped a bit right now, so he continued talking a bit, prepared to leave shortly afterwards.

"I appreciate that you were willing to meet me, and thank you for the warning, I will take the things you mentioned into consideration, but if I meet the Prince I better do that on my own. I have come to agreeable arrangements with other Princes before, so I can simply have a try here, too. It´s me who would have to live with the consequences. I think I have wasted too much of your time already, so I should go now."

The Professor got up.

George stood up, not really impressed with the reaction he got, as he had expected another one and spoke with a tone that made clear this wasn't over until he said so.

"We are not finished here so none of you will leave this room until I say we are finished... I expect Percy to rejoin us here soon and either you'll contact him or I'll have him brought back, your choice... After all, we still have some things to discuss."

This whole thing was beginning to annoy and anger him and he had to force himself to stay calm and not doing any things he might regret later. Why did things never turn out as they were supposed to be ?

"I said I'll help you and I stand by my word. Be assured I have no problem with how you are and as far as I understand your motives... The last words were a test to your determination, humility and tolerance to verbal abuse and you can be glad it is me giving this lesson here and not the Harpy in public..."

Sitting down again he gave the Professor a questioning glance and hoped he didn't have to remind him that this was his domain and he could detain both Valerius and Percy and exact punishment on them should it become necessary. Instead he gave his words a chance to be heard, understood and hopefully deescalate things a bit before returning to the main point of the evening.

"I think we were supposed to talk about how the appointment and things after it are supposed to go and how I can be helpful so please sit down and tell me what exactly I can do to help you..."

This was...unbelievable. Valerius looked at George in astonishment. But the Professor was also filled with indignation, and that was clearly audible in his tone.

"You hurt Percy in order to test me? And you were prepared to risk the lives of two ghouls for that? I might have fallen in frenzy. Are you sure you could have stopped me in time? You couldn´t know beforehand how strong I might be...
And yes, if somebody humiliates Percy, that can easily drive me into frenzy. Because I know that only too well I don´t take him with me normally when I meet other kindred. But I assumed you would surely not be a person who throws around profane insults. But you deemed if best to humiliate my ghoul. So I was trying to avoid a bloodbath by sending Percy away. So that you couldn´t hurt him any further. I was only one tiny bit away from a frenzy, so it was the best thing I could do.
And now you tell me this was a test? So basicly, you fooled me to teach me a lesson? And now, after you fooled me and almost drove me into frenzy you expect me to trust you and to continue ´business as usual´?"

Did George still think that this kind of test was a good idea? This was a hard test of the Professor´s self-control indeed. That he had been tested, fooled and been given a lesson of that sort didn´t excactly cheer him up. He was glad Percy wasn´t here any more, and Valerius still wanted to leave. Once again he kept talking to keep his rage in control.

"I don´t like it if somebody plays such games on me. Don´t expect me even to be grateful for that."

And hadn´t George also said he would have Percy brought back if Valerius didn´t call him back?
The Professor didn´t move out of the room, but he also still didn´t sit down. He still looked angry, and also determined.

"I still would like to leave. Do you think it would make any sense if you try to force your help on me? I asked you for help, but after your risky test I don´t want your help any more. Please accept my decision. Let me go in peace. I do not want to harm anybody. The Prince wants peace between Camarilla and Anarchs. There is no reason to force me to stay here, I have not vandalised or attacked anybody. I just kindly ask you to let me leave. Nobody should go after Percy. I don´t want anybody to touch him. Simply let us go."

What kind of "help" was that, if it had to be forced on somebody? And Valerius didn´t like it that he got threatened that Percy would be brought back here. He couldn´t forgive that Percy had been humiliated just for the sake of testing Valerius. Such games were so needless.

Surprised about the question she smiled at Percy and she gave him a bow of the head. "Roisin Macnamara." she said with her Irish accent obvious in the syllables of her name. She said nothing more as she was curious how it was going to play out. The girl was confused on how ghoul and Domitor interacted. George and her were kind and familiar when it was just the two of them but on occasions like now she had to be his shadow, his servant.

Roisin disliked it but it was important to serve him right. She blinked owlishly when the conversation became different. A brow got raised in disbelief when Percy seemed to be a spoiled brat. It was very confusing to her and to think she had hoped on learning something from another ghoul as this was her first encounter with one but after everything George had told her she quickly noticed that this was not an example she had to learn from.

The female ghoul peeked over George's shoulder to look at the pictures as well. Lovely place. Sure would hide treasures she could nick. A tiny smile gave away she was having pleasant thoughts but what exactly was a guess for them. Percy seemed a very eager personality. It was the wrong kind of adorable though. She could imagine them like that in private but in public she feared it would not be appreciated.

With big eyes she stared at George's back when his temper and sarcastic behaviour got bigger. It was the first time she saw the man in such an ominous attitude. She bit her lower lip and held her breath. She could sure use a smoke at the moment. It was the first time she felt some sort of fear towards her Domitor.

When Percy had to leave she felt sorry for him but she understood where George was coming from. After all the stories and rules he had shared with her she knew he would be downright disappointed and outraged with her if she ever displayed such behaviour.

The vibe changed into a more hostile one. The male ghoul would be brought back? She felt an excited spark within as she hoped she would be the one to bring back Percy. Peacefully of course! The mention of frenzy made her frown. So Brujah were really close to losing it all the time. Would George react the same if such insult happened to her? Now it was a good thing she didn't get insulted easily. Most of the time she had a very good poker face.

The human backed away until she felt the drawer behind her. With her hands folded on her back she held one hand against the drawer. If things escalated further there was one of her switchblades hiding in there, however useless it most likely was, and also a stake. George had made a fuss about it but she had admitted to be scared and that she needed some sort of assurance of safety. Reluctantly he had agreed on it after telling her it was utterly useless and unnecessary hostile. Roisin had promised him it wouldn't be anywhere visible. And she had to promise that only George was allowed to make the decision to use any sort of weapon. To her the fact it was there gave her enough mental assurance on the whole matter.

Maybe it would have been better if she said something or assured the Professor she was merely going to invite him back in. But she had not been given any permission for that and so she stood still like what was expected from her and awaited whether her Domitor needed anything. He was used to such games so he would make wiser decisions and definitely less fearful ones. Please let no one frenzy. Please! she thought.

George shrugged, ignoring the indignation and explaining a bit of his point on the matter, though just basically as there was no need to give away the full extent of the safety measures in here...

"I don't think the lives of any ghoul were on risk here, as I've taken a few... preparations just in case."

He nodded to the 'not being a person throwing profane insults around and again explained a bit on that, calm and matter-of-factly, as he could see the reason for the agitation but nonetheless didn't fully agree with it.

"You're right, I'm usually not the kind of person who does that, but I thought a few harsh words certainly couldn't hurt him and serve as preparation for the less pleasant part of our world, but apparently I have misjudged him... and maybe you as well..."

On the point of expectations he just showed a small smile and shook his head as expectations had little to do with the outcome of this and certainly not right now... He had hoped a Professor would understand that sometimes expectations were just that, not more...

"I don't expect you to trust me, nor do I expect you to be grateful... Why should I, after all ? In the end, what I might expect is just a matter of fancy waistcoats, nothing more..."

Nodding, George stood up and gestured to the door. There was nothing more to say and, sadly, not much more to do right now, but perhaps once the anger had ceased they might see this occurrence a bit differently...

"Leave, if you have to and do what you think you have to... This wasn't the best first impression, admittedly, but you're still family and if you want I'm still there to help you, if you need help. Think about it..."

Having said this he said down again and waited what the Professor did next, if he really left or not...

Did he have a bunch of of Brujah as backup next door? But in theory Valerius could be 300 years old, or not even a Brujah at all, but a Lasombra, producing a cloud of darkness the next minute (and good luck to the backup then), and Percy could have been no ghoul but a nasty Tzimisce...

Valerius really didn´t need a Cammie Brujah to prepare Percy for the big bad world. Anton had done lots of nasty "preparing" for the professor, verbal insults, beating him up, and had expected his childe to be thankful for that.

"I know myself and my beast, and I know that it´s the best to end this conversation now. Not that I´m happy about this outcome, but it could be a lot worse than just a bad mutual first impression. Obviously it was a mistake to take Percy with me and let him chatter freely...and I hope you will realise that it´s not a good idea to provoke a Brujah who is still a stranger to you."

No, it didn´t make any sense to stay, his beast was too close to the surface, it was such a strain to stay calm.
"Good bye, George..."

Valerius turned away, approached the door and closed it behind him. He had managed not to frenzy, not to shout any insults at the Primogen, and now Valerius managed to resist the urge to smash something to pieces, a window, a door, instead he just walked out of the building...that was a lot. To expect that he agreed "Oh yeah, that test was perfectly fine, now let´s go on talking" was too much asked for. But what the hell had the Primogen meant with the "fancy waistcoats"?

Percy was sitting in the car when the Professor arrived. Valerius sat down in the car, too. He saw that Percy was afraid of him, there was fear in his eyes.
"I´m still angry, but not at you. I had to send you away to protect you. Don´t worry, you did nothing wrong. With those insults the Primogen wanted to test us...oh great, I really enjoyed that. Him being nasty to you almost drove me into frenzy. I can´t bear to watch someone hurting you. And now drive, I´m glad to get away from here."

Percy was glad to hear that, he relaxed a bit and drove off.
"And next time, don´t show your true self. Don´t show that you´re squeamish and spoiled...so that nobody mocks you because of that. For me you mean everything no matter how spoiled you are, but other people see you differently."

George didn't comment on the parting words of Valerius but waited until he had left the room before calling Barney and Jane to the room for a coordinated withdrawal. While they were on their way he took the flare gun out of the desk and put it into his suitcase and the combat knife back on its place on his belt, while talking to Roisin.

"Now you've seen the latest member of our little family. If you want you can tell me what you think of him... Doesn't need to be here and now though."

A few moments later Barney and Jane arrived with golf bags over their shoulders and looking at George and Roisin as if not sure what to think on the bloke they just saw walking out. Then both spoke in unison.

"Leaving, boss ?"

The answer to that was a nod from George and so they prepared for leaving.

Roisin stood still. Her hands on the cupboard behind her. Holding on to it very tight. What the fuck had just happened? When George started to gather his stuff and prepared to leave Roisin as well took what she had hidden in the drawer and shrugged her coat on. The ghoul was surprisingly quiet. This had been the first time she had been by his side as his ghoul. Official duty so to say and all she could think of was how to get away from crazy vampires on edge of frenzy while she should have been focused on how to protect her Domitor.

While she walked by his side and left the building she still hasn't said anything even though he had asked her for her thoughts. She was still processing it all. It wasn't until they were in the car she spoke.

"That was weird. I mean... is it always like that with Anarchs or Brujah? And his ghoul seemed a bit spoiled."

But in truth what worried her more was how George had reacted and his temper. She hasn't only been scared of this professor guy but of George as well and she had no idea whether she should tell him or not. Geez... She needed a drink and a smoke once they were home.

Once they got in the car, George raised an eyebrow and looked at her as if he didn't understand her question in some way while scratching his head in confusion.

"What exactly do you mean with 'this' ? The aggressive subtext, the end of the meeting or me getting a bit mean as a test ?"

On the subject of the 'spoiled ghoul' he nodded. He had heard about such things, uncommon as they were but this had been the first time he'd witnessed it.

"Well, that is the other extreme of the Master-Ghoul relationship. True it is not very common and in this world it might be seen as a weakness to have the Ghoul reigning his master, but still it happens... I wonder if we'll see him again."

"That wasn't pleasant and there could have been better ways to have the first official day at work, but it could have been worse. At least that's how I see it..."

Roisin doubted what to say. She let the words roll in her mind over and over again before saying something. Her eyes were down and away from him. She stared out of her window snubs watched George through the reflection of the glass. Carefully watching him and wondering what he would say.

"Everything. The anger, the power being displayed. You were... different." she paused and took a soft breath. "I was afraid." and she wasn't afraid that easily. Not with humans but it had been a very long time since she had been surrounded by more than one vampire. They could kill her so fast and in painful ways.

Her blue eyes sparkled in the window. She watched herself and wondered about this night. It could have been worse George said. Hopefully time would tell her what to do. She needed to learn much so it would go easier. Doubting him and fearing him like what she had witnessed felt strange. As if she was having forbidden thoughts and feelings and that she would get punished for it. The blood was weird and created a chain and link with George that was always present and warning her so she would be a good ghoul and avoid any form of betrayal towards him.

George nodded, though it took some time and thinking before he found words appropriate to what he wanted to say.

"I see. If it helps you, I don't enjoy being like that, though sometimes it is... necessary. Perhaps you've an idea why. I didn't want to scare you though so I'm sorry for that..."

Thinking he concentrated on the street in front of them before looking at her briefly and speaking.

"I think we both can be glad nobody frenzied in there... I hate to think about the consequences otherwise you know ?"

Having said this he turned to the road again with a smile and continued to drive them home.

"I know it is not your intention to scare me or to be like that. I also am aware you have a certain title and respect towards that title to uphold but that does not mean that it makes me happy when having to witness it." she sighed and adjusted a few strands of her hair. It was a weird evening. "I guess I still have to get used to such things. This was my first official duty. Talk about official... how official are these Anarchs?"

The ghoul straightened herself in her seat. It seemed she had found some more stability in her mind and had started to place the various moments of the evening in different lights. For a few moments she frowned. The thoughts about frenzying vampires were not pleasant ones. How on earth would she have been able to get away from them? She could not just leave George behind as well.

"What then? If you are anyone frenzies what am I supposed to do? Theory is staking but is that even possible for a human to do when a vampire frenzies?" she knew George wouldn't even recognise here if such a thing would occur. Hopefully it would never come to that.

George scratched his head while listening and then nodded.

"I see. I hope your next duty thing will be better..."

He thought about the official situation of these people following the concession and then started to speak.

"They officially have the same status as Cam member as they have joined officially and do have the same rights and duties. Their Cam-hating brethren will despise them even more then us though as they are 'traitors' and to some of us, those that tend to have more stuck-up views, they'll be second-class members at best... That's why I don't get why any Anarchs do that, you know ?"

The question about what she was supposed to do when there was someone frenzying in the room was a difficult question, as the official position was clear but that was dangerous...

"Officially it's your duty to stake the one frenzying and do your best to get the situation under control, but that's difficult to be honest and I've seen people getting maimed or killed while trying..."

Breaking off the sentence as the thoughts coming with the words became too scary to speak on he thought about what to say next until he got the right idea some time later.

"So it might be better to take cover somewhere and wait till it's over... It's not heroic and might sound cowardly but it's safer for you..."

Roisin frowned. Political issues would take much more than a quick chat to understand. They were all so divided and yet some were belonging to both sides and none in particular or had she misunderstood that? It made it hard to understand whether she could or couldn't trust them. "So they are tolerated but can not be trusted? Or is it a case by case thing? Something which has no general rule and depends on the individual." she looked at him with seeking eyes and a need to understand this new world she had become a part of.

That sounded cowardly indeed and something she wasn't really into. She wasn't the sort of girl to hide. It created a bitter taste in her mouth and a dark cloud in her mind. When Sean disappeared she had been hiding away from the world but that was a different kind of hiding. It had been too hard to face the world without her Sean. Suddenly the image of her lost Tremere lover flickered away and the vision of Leo popped up. A smile played on her lips. The Gangrel was haunting her too much. With a short shake of the head she sighed.

"I do not like the sound of that George. Am I not supposed to serve you and protect you? Hiding away is not particularly going to do you good. Is there no trick in getting them to calm down or even stake them?" she sat closer to him and rested her head on her shoulder. At times she was merely a worrying mortal and she seemed hardly ready for all this but she was surely going to do her best to make it work.
