Franca reached an old red brick building which seemed to be the right address, though this part of Grove Ward was unusal, as it almost seemed to emit the depression and slow decay from better times that once had made this part prosper, back in the days of the 'Grandmother of Europe'... As if to correspond with this the wind seemed to whistle through the branches of the trees almost melancholically and the moonlight reflecting in the windows enhanced the effect. Upon pressing the button that announced her presence and which would make the outer door open, she could feel eyes on her, like people behind the curtains of some other flats were watching her and trying to see where she wanted to go... Then, finally the hoped for sound could be heard as a sign the outer door was open now. Escaping the watchers in the dark, she passed through the outer door an into a smaller floor with a row of white doors and stairs. One of them opened and George gestured for her to come in. The first room she entered was a small corridor with white wallpaper a green fitted carpet and a black iron wardrobe. On the opposite two white doors lead on deeper into the flat. While George took her jacket if she allowed it he took a pair of slippers out of a box under the wardrobe and offered them to her. Then he led her through the left door, into the living room. The living room was a big room with white-rose-wallpaper on the walls and a slightly used and faded Kashmir carpet in emerald green, ivory and amethyst on the floor. On the carpet were an ensemble of two armchairs and a chaiselongue in green plush, in front of that a small coffee table, adjacent to it an old-fashioned TV on a chest-of-drawers and a bookshelf with books and some photo albums which might be worthy to be called tomes. On the wall hung a copper cross next to photos of the last popes and the Queen. Scattered on the wall were framed documents and photographs mostly showing groups of people in uniform, some in colour and relatively new, some black-and-white and looking quite old. George disappeared into the corridor they'd come from, saying he'd be back in a minute, just getting refreshments... |

As she walked down the steets of Grove Ward, Franca was more concerned about whatever she was going to discover than by any eye that might have been watching her. When she had first read of the attempt to Al's life, in all honestly, she hadn't been even that displeased. With a bit of malice, she had actually suspected it might have been an over-reaction dictated by paranoia (she wasn't ending up like that, wasn't she? Wasn't she?!), or an excuse to enforce some new, convoluted security measure... The fact that George had become Sheriff shortly afterwards, however, somehow didn't follow. Once at his place, she greeted George and followed him inside, for the first time seeing the place where the Primogen lived. A sense of familiarity took her by surprise - and a sense of estrangement, at the sight of the conservatively furnished apartment. Once upon a time she might have sneered at the religious or monarchic paraphernalia - not now, not as she understood more and more the need of some normalcy, in the abnormality of their unlives. She sat and waited for him to come back - with some "refreshments", he had said, because vampiredom was the land of euphemism. She mentally prepared a few things to say and to ask, despite knowing all too well she would have most likely said the first thing on her mind... |

While Franca sat there and prepared things to say and discuss, it seemed like half an hour until the door opened again and George reappeared with an icebox, a glass carafe and two lead-crystal burgundy glasses. He carefully put the glasses on the coffee table and took some blood bags out of the icebox. After carefully open them so that Franca could see the process he emptied them into the carafe. Then he sat down, filled his glass and looked at her with a small smile. "It seemed you had some questions for me and I'd like to know what I can do to help you answering them... |

Straight to the point, uh? Not that she minded. Nor she missed to notice how he opened the blood bags in front of her (sure, sure, if one had wanted to play cunning would have easily found other ways... but no paranoia, right?). "Well, first of all congratulation. Sheriff, right?" she said. There wasn't irony in her voice, nor in her mind, although the issue was more layered than a matter of greetings. "Also, I have read of some attack to Blythe House. I guess you'd know something more..." And good thing nobody there was supposed to have Auspex, since she was actually thinking something more along the lines of now I'd like to know how on Earth Al made you a Sheriff when he considered you his enemy, and you actually wanted to get rid of him. Then, at a second thought, Telepathy wasn't even that necessary. |

George nodded to her words with a hint of a smile, before his face became serious again, as it wasn't just a fancy title to show off but a lot of hard work in the future... "Yes, thank you. Indeed I got appointed by the new temporal Prince with support of the Archon, but I hope that won't be a problem... At least I hope we'll be able to make the clean-up in Redbridge, Camden and Hackney a bit more efficient with this post in our hands, you know ?" On the question of news on the attack on Blythe House he just shrugged, looking as if he'd like to tell her but actually wasn't in the know of many details... "I wish I did. All I know is someone got into there, got through all the paranoia security, got Al killed somehow and then got out without being seen... Last thing I heard is that he was thinking on making a Ravnos, the one who has a hunt on his head now, chief of security, without telling us that Ravnos-thing I suppose... All a very complicated matter with few certainties and a lot of hear-say..." |

Now Franca was visibly surprised. "Wait. Temporal Prince?" That could imply only one thing, but... "Last time I read the news, Alarik had survived the attack, or so the Seneschal told on the Newtork, at least". Of course, what Henderson had said might very easily have been a lie. Unless there had been yet another attack. What followed clarified the issue in case it had been needed. "A Ravnos, they said? Has there been an investigation of some kind?" - she wouldn't have commented before knowing the facts, but picking on the first outsider on sight was a habit that made her a bit suspicious. The fact he had been chief of security was unpleasant, but while it did provide the means it didn't help clarify the motif... and thinking of security something else came to her mind: "Where did it happen? If it had been at Blythe House, I am quite sure there will be videotapes. Anything like that?" |

George shrugged with an indifferent expression as he neither knew nor cared if the temporal Prince made things official by now or not. Things were as they were... "Or perhaps Henderson made it official by now, I don't know... What I know is that he is Prince until someone else dumb enough to want the seat appears and takes the burden off his back, you know ?" Thinking for a moment he nodded. This was highly confidential but he trusted her not to get on the street and spreading the word like wildfire. "Yes, I've heard from the Archon that Svoboda was a Ravnos, though perhaps he'd have been disguised as a Gangrel if he'd have had the chance to be presented to the Council, I don't know. Matter of fancy waistcoats now anyways..." He nodded on the next question as he was sure there had been an investigation, though he of course wasn't invited to take part in it... "The Archon will have investigated things, I suppose. Strictly off-limits for anyone not on his staff though, I bet... We'll never find out for sure." Scratching his head and shrugging he answered the last question, as well as he could. "I suppose it has happened there, as shortly after that the office of the Prince was transferred to the Milbank Towers. I think Blythe House has been closed off by the Archon's men and everything that could provide evidence how it really might have occurred was either bagged or destroyed, as it is said to be common when political interests get involved, you know ?" Taking a sip of blood out of his glass he looked at her, awaiting further questions. |

Franca listened carefully since most things were new to her. "So Henderson is the Prince now", she thought out loudly. She wasn't sure whether that was a bad or a good news... for what little she could tell she was inclined towards the latter, although not without a careful skepticism. She didn't comment on the Ravnos issue yet. For what she knew they were not the most reliable people, to use an euphemism... but the association between minorities and the honourable tradition of scapegoating made her... less than comfortable, to put it that way. What followed made her rejoice even less: "So, correct me if I am wrong, they wanted you as a Sheriff, but they are handling the investigation by themselves?" She had yet to decide what to be more disturbed about, but of all the things it was probably the sense of helplessness - when a Archon appeared on the scene, there was little that could be done. |

George nodded. Henderson had claimed Praxis and he already had a bonus because of the bad Princes before him. Whether he'd become popular or just another tyrant, time would tell... "Yes, he is, we'll still have to see how it'll affect the domain. Can't be worse than the last Princes after all..." On the other point he just shrugged. Archons weren't known to have 'lesser' people look into their schemes and plots. That was how the Cam worked unfortunately and it might take a lot of time to change this, if it could ever be changed... Well, I suspect it's that kind of 'highly confidential' investigation they handle themselves and then decide what's the truth behind it... I doubt they'd want me or anyone not on Wenckheims staff in on that as it complicates things for them, you know ?" |

Franca wasn't surprised, but that didn't mean she was exactly happy with the scenario. "So, what is supposed to be left to us, poor lesser people?", she said, with more snark that she had planned to put in her words. "Is there a chance we get back the East for good, at least?", she said, trying to focus on what was feasible - on what was hopefully going to be, at last, something more than a quirky pet project. She didn't mention the other issue at hand, that was to say the blood hunt. She knew they had to discuss it at some point, but she had no rush nor eagerness. Because that peculiar topic would have implied other issues - her dislike for the practice of scapegoating, her suspicions on the whole affair. A whole list of thoughts that were unmentionable either to the Cam or to herself. |

Again George shrugged. Things were as they were and there was a reason things like that were called 'duty' and not 'fun'. Hopefully he wouldn't have to do this alone at least... "The day-to-day duties of a Sheriff, I assume... Which still is a lot of work to be done. Especially these days with the hunt and all... Are you still interested in becoming deputy by the way ?" He nodded with a determined look. They'd get the East back, even if he had to do it all by himself... "We'll get it back, I'll do my best to ensure that, even though allies to help with it may be hard to get, unfortunately..." |

"Are you still interested?", George had asked. The question was a good one, indeed - so goofd that it irked her to an extent. Of course she was interested!, she wanted to say. Of course she knew that being a Deputy was unpleasant hard work, and not a series of acts of bravery for Greater Justice, unlike in her very unreal ideal world. So... was she ineterested? After that conversation and her renewed doubts and the questionable tasks and the plotting secretive authorities? "Of course. Yes, I am still interested", she said. Because she was. She wasn't excited or amused, but interested? Yes. Determined? Check. She wasn't optimistic on the things ahead, but if nothing else, she liked to think she trusted herself better than someone else. "So, it might be time to start making new plans", she said. And hopefully, they would have been more fruitful than that the last ones. The last "adventure" in the East had left them with even more questions and no solution. Although, she still hope there was one to be found somewhere. |

So she still was interested, which was good. Good people were hard to find after all. George smiled and nodded. "Welcome on board and you're right. New plans are necessary. I'd say we start by conquering the East ward for ward and then continuing to crush the resisitance if any is shown. Though we might need a meeting to determine where we'd start with that, as I think there might be at least one of us around. And there's still the bloodhunt we can't ignore... Something needs to be done about that as well..." Taking a sip out of his glass he tapped his chin thinking while looking at the photographs. After a while of silence he looked at her again and spoke. "This leaves us with three things to do for the moment: Taking parts of the East before others do it, becoming more active in the bloodhunt and finding a family member. The latter would be what I'd ask you to do to see if we need to host a meeting or not. The name of our brother is Roussol and he should be dwelling at the Safehouse B, room 307." |

Franca nodded, refraining from asking if they were going to conquer the East ward for ward all by themselves... Finding allies for the previous mission had been a pain and its results wouldn't have made future recruitment any easier, for different reasons. As for the blood hunt, she couldn't help but notice the irony - if their old plans had been followed through, it would have been them escaping and someone else doing the hunt. Or maybe not, she thought, Maybe someone would have been framed by chance or by design, as it could be very well the case even now. The way things had gone had been even too convenient, apparently, and now they were playing along, passing over much more than they said. She still had a faint hope to plant some leftover of semi-justice in all those sharade, but maybe it was only her own little piece of hypocrisy, the one every vampire had to preserve some sanity. Then, talking about clan matters... "Roussol? Never heard of him, honestly." Or, had George mentioned him sometimes? She couldn't tell, surely he hadn't ever been active enough to be remembered. "But knowing the address it won't be hard to find him, right? By the way, I haven't seen Tristan either, recently; did you?". |

George shrugged when Franca mentioned not having heard of Roussol before as it wasn't like he had heard much after the first meeting either. "Seems to be rather reclusive, I've only seen him once before. Though if we call upon the clan, he needs to be called as well..." Thinking about Tristan he came to the conclusion that he had made himself quite rare as well in the last days to weeks. One of the troubles with the family was that you didn't know who was in twon at some time as they didn't feel obligated to tell if they didn't see the need. "Right, it should be, if he's still there... I haven't seen or heard of Tristan either in the last few weeks." Straightening himself he thought about where to conduct the meeting with the possible new underlings before breaking that train of thought and speaking again. "I might have found two people willing to be my assistants and I just wondered where we could meet them. Any idea about that ?" |

Franca wondered what was wrong with the Brujah of London; anywhere else the clan tended to be much more numerous and cohesive... then her thought went to Max; she still had mixed feelings about it, she had fancied not-so-nice things about him but it didn't mean he had to end in such a way. Or maybe I am only disappointed we didn't had a chance to fight as we should've had... "Two people not of the family, you mean? Who would they be? If that's the case I wouldn't take them to our private quarters. So it's either the Muse or some public place; it depends on what kind of privacy we care about the most". Because, Elysium meant being surrounded by curious vampires, while anywhere else left them at risk to be noticed by mortals. But but, they weren't plotting against Al any longer, maybe she could have lowered her current level of paranoia. Or not? |

George nodded, looking pleased and took a sip of blood before answering. "Exactly. I don't know if you know them. Robyne Sheridan, A Gangrel and Francesca Istrati, a Torrie, I'd guess. They've shown their initiative by calling me to report possible Masquerade breaches in Camden, the murders have been in the newspapers, and I've thought about including them to help us with our work." Thinking it took a while of silence but then he nodded again, agreeing with her point. "Right, perhaps we could arrange for a meeting in the College so it wouldn't be that private but also not too public." |

"I guess that could work... And I must say, with all my love for the family I am glad we'll have different skills to help, especially when it comes about investigation". Because, the last time it had been the two of them looking for cues, she had really wished to have an Auspex-user at hand. "But, I must have been living in my world, recently. What has been going on in Camden?" The name of the neighborhood had awakened her attention. It was one of the "Sabbat" areas, one of those they hadn't explored yet, and the one that seemed to hide the most mysterious facts. |

"Should they accept, of course. I hope they'll do, as it would indeed be a good addition to our little task force..." He smiled as it would effectively doubling their manpower and would extend the scope of talents quite well. "As far as I've been told, there have been murders there lately. Quite a few to be exact and there is at least one voice drawing a connection to the Sabbat and something called 'Baali' whatever that may be... I've decided we better take no risk and I'll go there with Miss Sheridan looking for clues..." |

Baali? Franca's eyes widened at the sound of that world. And not exaclty in wonder. George might have not known what a Baali was, but she did, or at least she thought she did. Thinking they were the cause of said murders however was a bigger claim that George probably imagined. "What do we know exaclty about this story? It's not the first time I hear their name, nor that I meet their deeds", she said. She was frowning, focused, attentive - that was serious business. "Baali. Demon worshipers. Bound to serve their demonic lords and to doom the world to destruction. If it seems like too much it's because it is. Although, normally even the Sabbat detests them, so I'd like to see where these claims come from". |
