CAMARILLA OFFICIALS These are the rulers of the Camarilla in London. They are powerful people, and their word can change the course of events. All of these positions are playable. Players can rise up to any of them, and make it theirs, which is part of the charm of the game. However, it's important to bear in mind that such power comes with a price: a position of power is not just a shiny badge you put in your lapel; it involves responsibility and commitment. Camarilla Officials are expected to be exemplary players, committed to making the board a better place, and to be available to players most of the time. They are expected to move plots forwards, and to be active in the game. They are also expected to understand the board's in game and out of game rules. Before applying to any of these positions of power and privilege, take a few minutes to consider whether you will be ready for the commitment it requires, and whether you will be able to rise to the challenge. If you think you can handle it, go for it. Prince: This is the one in control of the city. This Kindred is the one who looks over the city and makes sure the Traditions are respected. He is the one who is the judge when there are disputes between Kindred, he is the one who is supposed to keep the peace and protect the lay of the land. Because of this function of magistrate the Prince has the right to allot hunting grounds, to declare or revoke Elysium, grant authority to Sire a Childe, decide on punishment for those who violate the Traditions, to call a Blood Hunt, and to grant titles such as Sheriff, Hound, Scourge and Keeper of Elysium. The Prince is the one who can deny or accept the stay of any newly arrived Kindred in town. The Prince is the law and disobeying it is treason. In London, there is a long tradition of Ventrue totalitarian Princes, who ruled by blood bonding and Dominating anybody in front of them. However, in this new era, the Prince is a Nosferatu, whose strategies are quite different. Since a few years ago, London has been ruled by young Princes, making it an oddity in Europe. Seneschal: The Seneschal's job is to step up in the place of the Prince if the Prince cannot do his job for any reason. This job involves no direct power, but a great deal of influence and social prestige. They mostly live in the shadow of the Prince, and are privy to information and reports from the Prince's office (to the Prince's discretion). The role of the Seneschal is merely an optional one, and many Domains don't even have one. During the last few years, this seat has been used in London to place whoever would rule should anything happen to the Prince. There is currently no Seneschal. Primogen: A Primogen is the leader of a Clan. Sometimes, this position crosses borders, and works on different sects too, but this is ultimately a Camarilla position. Traditionally, this title belongs to the eldest member of the Clan but, in modern nights, that has definitely changed. Nowadays, Primogen are chosen by reaching the consensus of the Clan's members. Even though the Prince -or other superior Officials- doesn't have any real power over the election of a Primogen, they still hold power over their permanence in that position. The Primogen are the voice of their Clan. They are responsible for new comers, and have to explain the workings of the new city to a new arrival who comes knocking on their door. Should any member of their Clan is in danger, or breaks the law in any way, they can be held accountable for their actions. They are expected to keep their families in order. The sum of the seven Primogen conforms the Council. This institution is there to assist the Prince in ruling over the domain. The Council meets frequently, and they hold a great deal of power over the city. The balance between the Prince and the Council of the Primogen is one of the strongest and most dynamic forces in Camarilla politics. In most cases, London's citizens appoint their Primogen by democratic elections. These elections contemplate the possibility of Anarch participation. However, sometimes a Primogen is elected by other means (Prince direct appointment, or just by grabbing the seat). Although that is something that can be done, the legitimacy of such a take over is always easy to contest, and any democratically elected Primogen will have precedence over anybody elected in any other way. Whip: The Whip is an unofficial title that is popular in large modern cities. Their job is, basically, to act as assistants to the Primogen, under the tacit promise of being next in the line of succession, should anything happen to the Primogen. They try to keep up the Primogen's good name among other Kindred, and to gather support among his clansmates in every issue that might pop up. This is an optional and unofficial position, entirely to the discretion of the Primogen. Sheriff: the man that asks questions, does the investigations and then makes the report for the Prince. He's the one that goes after anything suspicious and finds out what has happened. The one who keeps the Prince informed about what goes on in his Domain. The prince of course orders the Sheriff as well. When the Sheriff is involved you still have a way of defending yourself or giving him prove you were not involved with whatever crime they are blaming you for. Hound: This is the one who hunts down the suspects. The one that aids the Sheriff and is by his side. Scourge: The one who acts first and asks questions later IF necessary. Whatever blood hunt is called upon, illegal Embrace or anything that needs to be captured and/or killed without much ado will find the Scourge on top of any of these cases. The Prince will merely tell the Scourge who to get and that person's dust will soon be decorating the night air. Keeper: The Keeper of Elysium is responsible for everything that happens on these sacred and peaceful grounds. They are appointed by the Prince, pro tempore, until proven right for the job. Contrary to what many think, this position is not specific to Clan Toreador. In fact, in some Domains, members of that clan are not considered for this role due to their weakness, which makes them easily distracted from their duties. In some cities even a Sheriff can step up as Keeper to keep the peace during Elysium events. Any Kindred can request a night they want to organise in the Elysium. A speech, formal or informal party, art exhibition, musical event or contest... the Keeper can allow or deny any request. However, denying it better hold support of a very good reason, as it contradicts the what Elysium stands for. In London, the Keeper is a Toreador. Some other areas of the city have been deemed Elysium on temporary basis, for meetings and events, but there is only one official regular Elysium. As usual in London, the one in this position is pretty young for European standards, making her position be seen as an oddity across the continent. Harpy: Harpies are the ones who keep track of the boon exchange market, and the the social status of the Kindred in the city. They aren't always officially known, or even officially appointed. Can mostly be found in Elysium. For a newcomer, being acknowledged by the Harpies is always a good start. They can make or break status and position of any other Kindred, regardless stature and prestige. NOTE: PC Positions not contemplated in this list are unofficial by default, and don't carry any political or social weight. |
