The Kindred Chronicle
Key Figures
THE MONSTER OF EALING
Last night, several people reported the sighting of a "screaming red monster" in a quiet neighbourhood of Ealing. After a power shortage in the area, a building caught fire. It was then when, what was described as a "man shaped, footless creature" emerged from the flames, leaping, running, and screaming. One woman has told our reporters that the man had "teeth like a wolf, and the face of the devil". Police officers are still trying to get to the bottom of this; neither the power shortage nor the fire have still been explained. A spokesperson from Scotland Yard has stated that the "so called monster" might be a wounded person, escaping the fire.

TRAGEDY IN TOOLEY STREET
The police has found the bodies of three TFL workers in the construction site at Tooley Street. One of their colleagues raised the alarms last week, when the three workers didn't attend their shifts. The bodies of the men have been found in a deep hole, uncovered by the refurbishment works that are taking place in the area. According to the Police, the bodies were horribly mutilated, which has led to the wildest speculations. The names of the three workers are being kept anonymous, following the wishes of their families.

HOROSCOPE
MARCH 8 - PISCES
You are used to making sacrifices, to prioritising the happiness of others before yours. Even though that is a noble attitude, there are times in life where the only healthy alternative is to embrace your own selfishness and allow yourself some enjoyment. Reserve one hour per day to do something you really like. Treat yourself! Your colour for this month is blue.
Echoes from the past ring back into London. Their intensity increases until they are deafening. What once was a faded memory of a glorious time, now becomes a shocking reality. The consequences of actions taken decades ago ripple into the present, altering the lives of everybody in the City. Unguided and blind, Kindred wander around, trying to make profit out of the reigning chaos.

The appearance of four mysterious figures turned the city upside down. Mistrust and jealousy became the official currency of London. Serpents and fiends rise to power, misdirecting the blaming eyes of the Camarilla towards imaginary enemies. Only those with clear vision and the ability to trust each other strive, while the rest run towards a shallow grave.

She wasn't sure what to make of the local Anarch community, because until now she had been just fine trying to survive on her own, trying to stay as far as possible from the political struggles and problems of the kindred. But eventually, she gathered as much courage as she could and decided that even if she stayed out of everything, the world was going to catch up to her eventually and regardless of how separated from it she was. So she decided to go into one of the known meeting points: The Night Tripper. And there she was now.

Wearing a skirt, a new pair of sneakers and a tank-top, Marceline was confused, not really knowing much of the social codes and quirks, but tried her best not to show it. She was sitting near the bar with a Tom Collins on her hands, staring at the glass as if it could whisper to her the answers she needed to hear.

After a while, she noticed another figure at a desk in a corner, keeping his back to the wall and able to see everyone who entered the Tripper. Although he had a glass with a dark yellow liquid in front of him, he hadn't touched it for the whole time he had been sitting there. The man was small, with a heavy frame and short black hair. Except for his moustache and the beard at his chin, there was nothing remarkable about him. He was almost too unsuspicious for his own good, except for his eyes, as they gave his face a shifty expression, his gaze wandering over everyone in the room, as if he was waiting for something.

As for what, who could say ? In any case he didn't look like a guy most folks would instinctively trust. But then, it was a world of darkness, wasn't it ? Who could one really trust anyways ?

After a while, his gaze arrived at Marcelina, it shortly sized her up and went off to the next person.

The gaze made it worse for her. What had he seen in her? What was he looking at? Was he some sort of guard for the place, was he a customer, was he looking for trouble? She was so nervous even the most normal of things confused her. Was that some sort of signal she was supposed to get? If that was the case, she didn't. Instead she stared harder into the glass, trying to suffocate her problems in a drink she couldn't sip.

"Calm down now" she told herself "It could be just another random guy"

Judging by Vida's current state of immortality it could be surmised that fate was not a particular fan of the Malkavian. So, as her ill begotten fate would have it, she sat inside a cloud of smoke, surrounded by kindred and mortals off ill repute.

The table she occupied wobbled and looked as though it hadn't been wiped down with a damp rag for at least a month. A bowl of stale beer nuts served as a center piece next to a pitcher of dark ale and a full whiskey sour.

The ale belonged to a big fellow with pock marked cheeks, thick eyebrows and long wavey brown hair. Without a doubt, the untouched liquor was Vida's. He was decked out in leather; jacket, belt, boots, the exception being his denim blue jeans and worn t-shirt. Her attire of lace and billowing creme colored chiffon didn't exactly compliment him.

She had paired a 50's era cocktail dress with a smart looking hat that was more a hair clip than a head covering, a beaded handbag, simple low-key heels, a pair of white gloves, and sheer silk nylons. By the look her, it'd be safe to assume that if dogs were more accepting of kindred she'd have one as an accessory too.

What attracted Vida to the rough looking kine had been the twinkle in his eyes and the twisting of chrome and metal parked on the curb outside the Tripper. She'd have followed him into Sabbat lands on the back of that bike, despite not knowing the local territory. Therefore, inadvertently finding herself in an Anarch bar was not that big of a surprise.

What could be considered a surprise was the view the duo provided. He lumbered across the table from her, looking akin to a giant playing tea party with a fragile doll. Each time he spoke, his voice was loud and typically accented by the pounding of his fist upon the table... making the unsturdy structure continuously shift off balance. With each passing second, it became obvious to anyone with good manners that the Asian dame was no longer enjoying the British brute's company.

Thus her eyes began to wander, and settle on the nervous individual who made the unfortunate mistake of pairing sneakers with a skirt. Given a few moments more of studying the creature, and it was painfully obvious to the Malkavian that the girl was kindred.

In all her years as a geisha, Poyvida never let a guest go unnoticed. Something about the loners always drew her in, and that had not changed with her Embrace. So, with little less than a, "Goodbye" she left her date's table and sashayed over to the solitary vampire with a tragic fashion sense.

"The longer you stare at your drink the thirstiest you will get," she smiled, oblivious to her poor English.

Fate, Andrew thought, what a cruel hand you deal. He pushed the door open and entered The Night Tripper. The air smelled of liquor, stale tobacco smoke, sweat and, oddly, light whisps of perfume. He walked up to the bar and leaned against it. He took inventory of the people there. In one table, a hulk of a man was sitting with someone vaguely familiar, a small group of university students were nursing their schooners at a table in the far end, a man that was rather too inconspicuous sat behind a desk at one end of the room; surveying the area so it seemed and at the moment Spook., Andrew can see that he was staring at a woman in a skirt and tank top.

Laughter then caught his attention and brought it back to the group of university students. Apparently, they found it hillarious that the hulk's date was leaving him. Andrew couldn't help but chuckle himself and laugh out loud when he saw that the big bloke's lady of the evening was making her way towards a woman. And here I was thinking that I was unlucky with the girls. Andrew thought as he stiffled his laughter. When he got himself under control, he walked across the room to where the inconspicuous man was seated. He held up both hands palms facing the seated man as he made his approach. "Good evening mate!" Andrew said addressing the man with a friendly smile. "Looks like that Asian lady beat you to her, eh?!" When he was a few meters away, Andrew brought down his right hand and offered it for a handshake. "Andrew Dickson, at your service."

"Huh?" she said confused, oblivious to everything until she looked up again to see who was talking to her. Why did everyone had to wear such cool things? Marceline resisted the urge to look back at her simple self and rely on self pity. What was their trick? Did they ransack a shop every now and then? She had been broke ever since the world came falling down, hell, she even had to wash her own clothes manually, in the old fashioned way. "Yeah..." said to make time while she thought of something to say that didn't come out as something completely idiotic.

"I don't really drink. I mean, yes, sometimes, but I don't really liked the drink." And her face, if looked up close, carefully resembled a poem as she tried to avoid making the what-the-hell-are-you-saying face to herself. "So yeah... Maybe I should give it to someone else, do you want it?" Quickly, she's distracted, you can throw it in her face and run away, said her own voice inside her head as she prayed for something distracting to happen, like the bartender blowing up for no appearent reason.

Poyvida cocked her head as the anxious kindred searched for an answer to a question she hadn't asked. To her amusement, the girl showed a myriad of expression more pleasing to look at than her haircut. It was promising to say the least.

"It is not the drink of choice? My what a surprise." Despite technically laughing at her expense, Vida's smile still reflected warmth, albeit sorta like a Welcome mat laying on a porch. Generic and sugar-coated.

"Huh... What?" she said narrowing her eyes. She had got the confidence part her interlocutor was talking about, or at least she thought she did, but Marcie wasn't sure what did it had to do with anything of what she was saying. As confused as she was, the entire cloak and dagger subtle thing was completely lost on her. She tried not to stare too much into the other girl's face lest it became uncomfortable.

The Nosferatu looked at the newcomer as if he was able to frisk him just by looking. Suddenly, one of the chairs moved towards Andrew as Henderson's foot pushed it into his direction. With an inviting gesture, he motioned towards the chair. As far as Andrew could tell, he had been sorted into the 'no threat' category for now. Henderson rose and shook Andrew's hand.

"Well met, Andy, I'm Hal !" he introduced himself. "You know what they say... Finders keepers and stuff. The city may be big, but you always meet twice and next time, I'll find her first." he grinned at Andrew sleazily."Good things come to those who wait, after all. And just drop that at your service stuff. Makes me feel like I had a butler or at least needed one."

The man used his foot to move a chair toward his direction and a moment later came the gesture that invited him to sit. The stranger then stood up, took the hand he held out and shook it. "Well met, Andy, I'm Hal!" he introduced himself. Something about the handshake didn't feel right to him. The use of the petname his aunt used to call him had won Andrew over though so he decided not to delve any further into the true identity of Hal. A friend then. Andrew mused.

"You know what they say... Finders keepers and stuff. The city may be big, but you always meet twice and next time, I'll find her first." he gave Andrew a grin that had Freud written all over it in bold letters. "Good things come to those who wait, after all. And just drop that at your service stuff. Makes me feel like I had a butler or at least needed one." Hal continued. "If that's what you want then." Andrew replied as he moved towards Hal's side to get a vantage point to see the two women they were talking about.

"Why don't we make this more interesting?" he asked Hal. "Five pounds say that she" Andrew pointed at the Asian woman "left the Increible Hulk there to talk with your little shy bird because she does seem a wee bit lost." Andrew made several gestures with his hands, moving them between Hal and himself. "Now, the only way we can verify this hypothesis of mine is if we get off our asses and find out. Huh? What do you say guv?" Andrew said winking and still with a smile on his face.

Hal almost instantly got his purse out and handed Andrew a five pound note.

"Hah, its yours. Never had a chance, did I ?"

Now that Andrew had mentioned it, it really looked like the new guy could be right. Especially the Asian was a sight he wouldn't have forgotten. People like this seldom made it here. Looking into the matter could well be worthwhile.

"Now that you're filthy rich, I guess you are supposed to take the lead, buddy..." he said, using the opportunity to draw the main focus away from himself and letting Andrew do the main work while he was nearby, watching and listening while not appearing too nosy.

Several hours had passed since Rob set foot in the Night Tripper. After several interesting conversations, Rob concluded that it was time well spent, watching the various bar patrons go about their business, looking for subtle hints of fellow kindred. Who wasn’t drinking their drinks, who look a little different, maybe flushed or deformed, or who had a harem of ghouls following them, waiting to their every beck and call. (The latter being surprisingly high to Rob’s amazement in his past seven years.)

As he watched vigilantly throughout the night, Rob could not help but constantly bring his attention back to the girl with the short black hair. Rob couldn’t put his finger on it but he felt a strange… kinship with the girl. Her posture, her demeanor, it all pointed to a person uncomfortable in their own skin, much the same as he. He wondered to himself if she could be one of the kindred.

But he wasn’t alone in this. The young girl was quite popular as Rob had noticed, collecting the eye of several bar patrons. The most obvious of which was the Asian woman whom had just approached her. Sitting within ear shot of the duo Rob could hear the whole conversation, the Asian woman made no attempt to hide who she was and why she was there. She was kindred through and through. The exact clan of which, Rob could not place but a kindred none the less and she had come to the same conclusion as he… The young woman with the short black hair, skirt, and sneakers was kindred too.

"I did not think it would be this easy. Usually it takes a couple of days of stalking and observing to tell if a person was one of us… Well unless they made it obvious like the twisted bodies of the Sewer Rats or the animalistic features of the Gangrel." Rob thought.

It was obvious who was in control of the situation. The Asian woman was a predator through and through to the young girl her prey. Rob knew how it felt to be in that position before and sometimes you need a little help and after all, Rob was looking for some kine in the city as well. This could be promising.

Standing up Rob approached the two women.

“Mind if I join you ladies?” He said with confidence.

After the approach of the strange asian lady, any distraction was more than welcome, lest the fact that she had no idea of what to say become more and more obvious. "No, not at all" the words came shooting out of her mouth immediatly, before she had time to realise it was too soon to give a reply without sounding a little bit off. Marceline bit her lip and tried to think about the entire situation from the outside, sometimes that helped. Maybe this was all staged? Like the staring guy in the corner? Or like kidnaps or stuff like that? Was it paranoia or just being wary? In any case she was glad the man had come to interrupt before the asian woman had time to mock her for not understanding or anything worse.

Rob could tell the woman was nervous. Not that he could blame her. Unless you were a person that thrived on attention an entire bar staring at you would put anyone off. he knew that if he could be the calm in a sea of chaos, he might earn himself a valuable ally.

While the two men on the other side could remain in his periphery, he did have to keep his attention on the Asian woman who looked to be a very dangerous sort to deal with. If he didn't choose his words carefully he might be in for a fight and that was the last thing that Rob wanted. On the contrary, Rob would love to gain an ally in the Asian woman as well, the only problem was while the young woman would most likely remain docile, the Asian woman could attack at any moment, being the predator she was.

"Pleasure to meet you, the name is Rob, Rob Aiken." He said his American accent as thick as ever, extending the gesture to both the young girl with the black hair and the Asian woman. "And you are?"

"Oh" she said to buy time. What to say, her real name or a fake one? As she started to think on the latter she realised everything she could think of would have been a fitting name for a pornstar or a prostitute. "I'm Marceline" ended up saying a few seconds later with a shrug, hesitating to if she should try to give him a handshake or something else. And then looked around; The staring man seemed to have got himself some company, and now the two of them were looking in her direction. She was almost sure she had done something wrong at one point or another.

Rob peered around the bar. The patrons were paying attention to him as well and the Asian Woman's glared at him, remaining mute. This was not the ideal place to have a conversation. His position would be best as the fly on the wall.

Taking control Rob reached down and took Marceline's hand and shook it.

"A pleasure to meet you Marceline and might I say I admire your accent." He said as he reached into his back pocket with his free hand. "Oh... I just forgot I have to meet a friend of mine. Forgive me but I will have to depart." Rob lied.

With his free hand he placed it on the Marceline's wrist and slipped a piece of paper into her hand. "I hope to see you again Marceline." He said.

Rob relinquished her hand after he was sure the paper had made it's way into her hand. He turned and strode out of eye range of the other three still staying within ear shot of the conversation.

The paper was a tactic of his he had implemented several times when he knew he was dealing with another kindred. On the note was the number to a disposable phone he purchased when he traveled to a new area. Along with the number was the brief message: I am kindred and a friend. Short sweet and to the point. He relaxed against one of the support beams on the other side of the bar, still watching the scene with great vigilance to ensure nothing happened to his new friend.

Marceline remained silent when Rob took her hand. It was too sudden to do anything about it and she was too nervous to say something as well. Better play dead. But the only problem was that she couldn't. It was uncomfortable; Anything was when she was feeling out of place. She clenched her fist and brought it to her waist after he left, looking at the asian woman with a rather puzzled expression on her face. "This is making me pretty nervous" She said and looked to the side, then to the exit and raised her index finger as she looked back at her interlocutor for a second "I'm going to go take a walk for a while, yep." and absconded just like that, stealing the glass as well as she walked out to get some air.

Rob watched as Marceline stepped away from the Asian woman and towards the door. He had not expected the young woman to leave so suddenly. She obviously seemed flustered by the whole encounter and Rob worried that the whole experience scared the woman off.

He slapped his hand against his forehead in frustration. Rob was never good with social situations even before he was embraced. Now he might of ruined his slim chance of making a friend within the city.

Knowing he couldn't just sit and wait Rob quickly followed the young woman out the door. He worried he might scare her off more, but with safety in numbers being the common trend for the kindred as Rob saw it, this might be a matter of life and death.

Rob stepped outside luckily to find Marceline still standing outside the door. Even with his skills in celerity she would have been hard to track if she had taken off right after the pub's door closed.

"Marceline wait." Rob said hastily. "I didn't mean to scare you off or intimidate you. I just... I'm new to these parts and it is very rare to find another of our kind so soon. I was hoping maybe we could help each other out."

Rob watched Marceline anxiously, hoping the young vampire would not immediately write him off as a predator.

"Oh?" muttered when he spoke, turning around to face him, still oblivious to the glass on her hand. Everything that had just happened was strage, but maybe it was a common ocurrence around these parts. For a moment she didn't know what to say and just stood there, contemplating the other kindred. "Yeah... I guess so. Depends on what kind of help you were expecting. I'm sort of new around here, I heard this was the place where they gather to... uh... I don't know do their things and socialize maybe? But I don't really know much beyond that. And that didn't go well, and the asian lady didn't help much either..."

Rob felt relief rush over him. The entire crazy scene had not sent Marceline running for the hills. He could tell that she was in the same situation that he was in. All alone in a strange new place.

"Well... I think I am just as new as you are." Rob peered down to the watch. "I got here two hours ago and know nothing about this city or even where I can rest for the sun. And after seeing that scene..." Rob looked back to the Night Tripper where the Asian Woman and the other patrons still resided. "I think the two of us could do well to help each other out than put our faith in the hands of kindred who might not have the best intentions for us. I'm not going to lie to you, I've been dead for seven years now and have been on the run since I was embraced. It would be nice to actually have a friend instead of just some Gangrel who agreed to help me through the woods without a lupine ripping my face off." Rob stopped, realizing he was now rambling to the already stressed Marceline.
