The Kindred Chronicle
Key Figures
THE MONSTER OF EALING
Last night, several people reported the sighting of a "screaming red monster" in a quiet neighbourhood of Ealing. After a power shortage in the area, a building caught fire. It was then when, what was described as a "man shaped, footless creature" emerged from the flames, leaping, running, and screaming. One woman has told our reporters that the man had "teeth like a wolf, and the face of the devil". Police officers are still trying to get to the bottom of this; neither the power shortage nor the fire have still been explained. A spokesperson from Scotland Yard has stated that the "so called monster" might be a wounded person, escaping the fire.

TRAGEDY IN TOOLEY STREET
The police has found the bodies of three TFL workers in the construction site at Tooley Street. One of their colleagues raised the alarms last week, when the three workers didn't attend their shifts. The bodies of the men have been found in a deep hole, uncovered by the refurbishment works that are taking place in the area. According to the Police, the bodies were horribly mutilated, which has led to the wildest speculations. The names of the three workers are being kept anonymous, following the wishes of their families.

HOROSCOPE
MARCH 8 - PISCES
You are used to making sacrifices, to prioritising the happiness of others before yours. Even though that is a noble attitude, there are times in life where the only healthy alternative is to embrace your own selfishness and allow yourself some enjoyment. Reserve one hour per day to do something you really like. Treat yourself! Your colour for this month is blue.
Echoes from the past ring back into London. Their intensity increases until they are deafening. What once was a faded memory of a glorious time, now becomes a shocking reality. The consequences of actions taken decades ago ripple into the present, altering the lives of everybody in the City. Unguided and blind, Kindred wander around, trying to make profit out of the reigning chaos.

The appearance of four mysterious figures turned the city upside down. Mistrust and jealousy became the official currency of London. Serpents and fiends rise to power, misdirecting the blaming eyes of the Camarilla towards imaginary enemies. Only those with clear vision and the ability to trust each other strive, while the rest run towards a shallow grave.

It was a lovely night. It had been raining all day and you could still smell the moist in the air hinting that there could be more rain later this night. The humid scent was more alive in the park than it was on the streets of the city. There were a few lights illuminating the park benches, trees, paths... The moon wasn’t high in the sky yet and had only been peeping at the sky for almost two hours. It was surprisingly silent. The surroundings were blocked out by the Gangrel that one could only notice if you paid attention. The leaves were starting to change colour and starting to fall off so every now and then you got hear the bristling sounds of leaves twirling down because of the wind. Other than that it was pretty much abandoned by sounds. Some stars were sliding in and out of vision, hiding behind the clouds and reappearing again.

For this lovely night Leslie was dressed in something simple. No bright colours, no short skirts or anything to show off, distract and attract. This night she was wearing a pair of black flats, a low cut jeans and hooded grey tank top. She was lying on a branch. Her legs were up in the air, resting against the tree trunk. She was resting her upper half of her body upon the thick first part of the branch. Her long hair was loose and hung down like dark curtains. The wind made it move like waves in an ocean. Her hands were folded on her belly and she was staring up at the sky or at least pieces of the sky she could see through the roof of that the trees had created with their branches.

This was her plan for the evening. Nothing and no one around so she could just watch the night go by and enjoy the nothingness of this evening.

Funny; in the San Juans, there would be snow capping the mountain tops about this time of year, and his pack would be hiding deep beneath the soil. It was still difficult to get used to city life again after what felt like ages spent in the Colorado wilderness, but slowly and not so surely, Cadence was beginning to find his way. Nothing so far from Vanth, not since the Chapstick incident, which couldn't rightly be complained about. Sure, Vanth was basically his only contact in London, but who wanted a guy like that around all the time? Who needed that kind of attention? Negative attention wasn't something the scruffy man was looking for, if any at all.

He trekked along tonight without much of a goal in mind; mostly, he wanted to find a quick meal and go home. Parks were always a good hunting ground, even in weather as cold and disheartening as this, because someone was always stupid enough to be out there--sleeping on a covered bench, jogging, wandering around like the rain was some romantic bullshit. What was so romantic about polluted water falling from the sky and soaking your freshly washed laundry? And no matter what, it always ended with him smelling like wet dog.

This thought occurred as he walked a beaten path in the grass along a row of trees; maybe he was a sucker for rain and was just too stubborn to admit it after claiming to hate it for so long, which was a sickening thought anyway. Begrudgingly liking something was worse than hating it, because it made the confusing person with such a view seem inconsistent. Inconsistency was less than favorable.

Cadence was distracted from his train of thought--and focus on the cracks in the sidewalk--by the dark lengths of what looked like hair hanging from the tree whose canopy he was now under. He came to stand beneath the figure one of those romantics he refused to be. He looked a little damp, like a wet, miserable cat who had been given a bath without prior consent, but mostly only by his expression. In reality... The downpour wasn't actually a downpour. He'd been sprinkled on at the most, simply acting the part of the Eeyore that he was. He stared for a moment, tracing the bear arms of the woman balancing quite comfortably on the branch. There should have been goosebumps, maybe shivering in accordance to the temperature, but there wasn't. He cleared his throat quietly, proceeding to start things off with probably the least interesting small talk that could have possibly popped in from the top of his head. It was worth noting that Cadence was still suffering from the aftershock of being an overstimulated, underachieving university student. He was quite lazy when it came to most activities involving social interaction anymore, not that he meant to be.

"Aren't you cold up there?"

The Gangrel himself had come prepared; he liked to blend in, and so payed close attention to the seasons and such. He wore a black flannel jacket over a white T-shirt, probably fresh from the package. He paired these with faded jeans and Chuck Taylors, also well loved.

The music of the night was led by its silence and it covered her with a blanket of soothing vibes. While focusing her blood she made her heart beat a few times in coherence with her breathing. She secretly simulated these bodily functions often. She missed being warm, being human, being a different kind of “alive”. For a few minutes she had closed her eyes. The air was swiftly filled with the wind that loudly rolled through the park at times. Then when silence returned a voice disturbed her peaceful mind. With a sigh that gave away her annoyment she rolled down the sleeves of her top. "Not anymore." she coldly answered. Leslie was obviously not in the mood for a talk especially not now that someone caught her simulating her bodily functions unless he hadn’t noticed that but then again humans almost never did notice these simple things.

The young one looked down and stared at whoever was beneath her. To her surprise she was actually staring at the handsome face of a man. He looked a bit scruffy and smelled like... wet dog? What? Maybe he was one like her? His lost puppy look made her smile. “Sorry for my rudeness. You had me startled.” An apologetic nod was added. “You know you should really try this one time. It’s fun to watch and listen to nature after the rain... “ She paused and took a deep breath. “... and more is coming. You can smell it hanging in the air.”

With that said she let herself fall down of the branch and landed on all four. In that split second between her crouching position and her standing up you could notice that her low cut jeans were too low and her long top was not long enough because her back bared a few inches for just long enough so that a person who actually paid attention to details could see the dark fury tiger strips on her back. Once she was standing in front of him her eyes travelled his body up and down as if she was seizing him up. “I’m Leslie and you are another hopeless lost soul in the dark with hopefully a name?” She said with a laughter that hid her purring.

"I didn't mean to surprise you. My mistake."

Cadence regarded her with mild intrigue as she fell down gracefully from the branch, catching a glimpse of orange and black before she straightened up and eyed him in a way that made him slightly uncomfortable. The Gangrel could usually play his social cues alright, but there was something off putting about this Leslie. She laughed easily, at least, which was more than he could muster on even a good day anymore. What was it that he heard behind her laughter? Some kind of residual vibration? Maybe she was sick?

"I'm Cadence. nice to meet you, Miss Leslie." He held out a rough hand shake, making an effort to be polite.

"Not that I would call myself particularly lost or hopeless, but I suppose that could be put up for debate."

The corners of his mouth turned up into a tight smile. There was a scent in the air that seemed familiar somehow, besides his own wet dog smell and the rain that his new acquaintance appreciated enough for the both of them. He well remembered how much he used to love snow storms in the mountains, especially in the dead of night, when the flakes were like little lights in the darkness. Such simple pleasures seemed so insignificant when in the city, if only because he couldn't fully appreciate them with so many other distractions around. The vibration he seemed to have heard before wouldn't go away, filling his ears like a mosquito buzzing about just to pull his attention away from the woman who might be his meal ticket for the evening. That was, of course, it she was as curious as her initial lookover seemed to indicate.

Miss Leslie? How very formal of him. It made her frown for just a few seconds which was probably weird to see that sudden change while she shook his hand. He felt cold, like her but not very cold. His hands had probably been in his jeans or jacket causing his skin to take in the warmth provided by the fabric. Or not... sometimes her mind searched for clues that weren't there.

"Cadence? What a nice unusual name. You look like a Cadence." she said with a wink while she walked around him. She stopped in front of him again. Her arms crossed in front of her and her face lighting up with glee. Something was funny to her but what? It was his smile. He smiled but it was almost as if it hurt him to do that. How strange... and it triggered much curiosity.

"Like your name you seem nice and unusual. I'm always up for a debate or anything else fun." Another giggle and a hidden purr. He was completely the opposite from her and that seduced her into finding out more about him and he looked good enough to nibble on. Even though she wasn't hungry and had fed already she had used up some energy by reproducing her dead human features.

"In the end we are all lost and hopeless." She said with a sigh while her smile fainted a little.

Why was this strange woman stalking him like he was prey? He drew up with straight posture, standing at his full height, feeling a little indignant at being so thoroughly looked over. He wasn't on display for the world to stare down and study as they pleased, nor was he on display for this woman to treat him like eye candy.

"How is it that one manages to look like a Cadence?" he asked absently, watching her out of the corner of his eye, shifting as she came around him once again. What was she so busy with sizing him up for, anyway? The way she was behaving, coupled with the cool touch of her hand, made him think that perhaps she wasn't the meal he'd been looking for.. Which would make this whole endeavor a waste of his time unless he got moving soon. Then again, it didn't seem as though she would be letting him walk away so easily.

"If you're looking for someone so out of the ordinary, I'm afraid you'll be sorely disappointed. I'm not in the least unusual, besides perhaps my taste for midnight strolls in bad parts of town. Considering you also seem to share this particular hobby, though, it surely isn't so abnormal, Miss Leslie."

He raised a brow at the sigh she presented with the philosophy major's best line. Cadence sure didn't feel lost. Nor did he feel hopeless, just as he had said before. So what kind of conclusion was it to say that everyone ended up that way?

"I don't think things are wrapped quite so neatly as that. In fact, in the end, one would think that you would find some kind of light at the end of the tunnel, thus finding your way in the world even as you're leaving it."

His uncomfortable vibe made her smile. She loved to have such an effect on people. Cadence straightened himself. It seemed he tried to... intimidate her or something? He obviously wanted her to back off but what he wanted and what she wanted where two different things. After all he had ruined her private time so he owed her even if he didn't know it yet.

With a sigh she spoke to him. "Like I said before: like your name you look nice and unusual. Am I going to have to repeat myself the entire night? Otherwise this is going to get very boring very soon."

Geez! He was so serious! Too serious! How could she cure him from such a bad mood? "I wasn't looking for anything until I stared down in your deep eyes." Cheesy! But she hoped her small laughter would make him a bit more at ease. "This is not the bad part of town. Trust me babe there are worse." She frowned and shook her head. She knew all too well where trouble could be found and it was not here. "Why are you here if this is supposedly a bad part of town? Not afraid of the bad girls of town?" Now without laughing or giggling her sudden purring became obvious.

Leslie tilted her head to the side in a curious way and frowned again. His last words disturbed her gleeful mood. Her tone was harsher than before. "I think you still got a lot to learn. Don't talk about things you can't understand. You know what is weird though? You talk abou light at the end of the tunnel like life is almighty and wonderful but you look like a fucking dark cloud ready to let loose its thunder and lightning on anything that even seems remotely happy."

She leaned her back against the tree and pointed towards nothing in the distance. "Go and ruin your own night but not mine!" How odd to see a rather young girl like her so angry all of a sudden, no?

Cadence still wasn't sure what to make of this woman. Usually he was able to quickly wrap his head around his company, to understand their type, but the other Gangrel was more of a challenge. Her mood seemed to fluctuate like the ups and downs of a roller coaster, which didn't make it any easier to understand much more than the fact that she might have been the slightest bit out of her gourd.

"Why are you here if this is supposedly a bad part of town? Not afraid of the bad girls of town?"

His nose twitched, beryl-colored and apparently 'deep' eyes narrowing somewhat. Well, she certainly had a type now, a file he could assign her to. Self-proclaimed 'bad girl' of London-town. Alrighty, then, he could work with that--although at that moment, the source of the vibration he'd been hearing became very clear. It really was her, purring like a large cat, which was obviously not something that normal people did. It certainly wasn't what he would do, were he trying to act more... human. He hadn't been dead long enough to worry about such snap reactions. Had the purring been an added reaction to frenzy, he wondered?

"No, as a matter of fact, I'm not afraid. Please forgive me for saying, but you're not particularly scary; though perhaps you just don't strike fear into the hearts of unusual men such as myself."

It was somewhat unexpected when her tone became abrasive, adding more friction to the already strange and difficult conversation. Maybe he shouldn't have roused Leslie from whatever she had been doing in that tree before. Talking to her felt like turbulence in vocal form. At being called a black cloud, he raised a brow--he'd heard such things before, from both friends and family, as well as strangers, now.

"I have classically been referred to as 'Eeyore' more than once or twice. They should have called me Zeus, instead, if we're going to assume that I bring thunder and lightning down on the most innocent of strays."

Cadence offered a genuine smile, adding, "Although I must insist, Miss Leslie, that if you would allow a stranger to so easily ruin your night--you must have many bad nights ahead of you. What do you care what I think? And why should it effect you in a way that proceeds to make every other aspect of your night less vivid, your smile less than it was before?"

The young one burst out laughing. ”Who says I’m a bad girl or scary? I wouldn’t be getting any goodies if I were too bad or too scary, would I?”

Goodies! Such a lovely word which could mean so many things and she left it to him to give whatever meaning he wanted to give to the word. The way he said ‘unusual’ made her aware her previous suspicions might be true. This one was not human what type of Kindred was he then? He could be Brujah or maybe Gangrel like her with his wild hair and wet dog smell... he could be anything she just had to wait and see.

Zeus? Was he for real? She wondered how uncomfortable she could make him feel. He was quite a challenge. So lonely, so thoughtful, so sad and so cute. There was much to figure out about this Cadence and she was very fond of exploring secrets and unravelling them. She wanted to play around with this lost dog.

”Well I guess it all depends on the type of thunder and lightning.” she said with a wink. Now she couldn’t wait for how he would respond to that. Cadence didn’t look like the type of guy that was going to flirt back. He seemed more like someone who enjoys a chat above anything else. A guy that couldn’t even smile without looking like being in severe pain was probably not able to do anything else fun. Luckily this was not always on her mind. She loved casual talks but never found the right person to have them with.

With a shrug she said ”I tried to avoid strangers this night because my mood is a bit... she narrowed her eyes and suspected he would know what she meant. ”... well, not really prepared for strangers this night.” The way he talked about her vivid night and her smile with that added smile of his almost made it seem like he was genuine and maybe he was but Leslie was by now rather leery. ”I don’t know. It just happens at times. I guess you could say you took me by surprise. Like I said before I hadn’t expected anyone around and was...” She quickly shut up. What was she doing up in that tree? How could you explain something like that to anyone even if he was one like her?
