He had bounced back to give her room to get up. She was trying, that was important. He had a feeling he had more experience in actual "someone trying to kill you" fights than she did; and that affected the way he fought. Still, now he bounced in and feinted with a knee then brought an arm around in a sudden controlled side punch to her shoulder zone. He kept his other hand up to guard against a response attack, but he had a feeling she'd have to watch how she threw her knees around with that pinched nerve. |

Yeah, she had to watch how she moved with that leg because even without having going full out, the blow had hit and affected a few nerves that were currently complaining whenever she moved. But while she hadn't been able to stop from being hit from the last attack, this one she seemingly saw coming as she tilted her body to the side and angled it forward enough for the blow to just pass over her with little room to spare with the way she crouched down. Only to slide her good leg closer to him and, upon stretching out again, using the momentum to bring her up with some speed, elbow coming up with her. She could've gone for an uppercut, but elbows struck harder than fists. And honestly, she had a feeling that in a contest between her fist and his jaw, his jaw would win. |

Toran's other hand came around, palm extended, forearm lined up behind the palm and drove his arm in a palm strike at the rising elbow. He couldn't stop it from coming but he could make it awfully unhappy to have gotten there. Then his long leg snapped up, a knee aimed at her stomach. He could also have reversed the fist that passed over her head and sent it sweeping back in another back knuckle but he really didn't want the fight to get damned ugly. Which is why he hadn't headbutted her elbow or foot. No sense fighting dirty. |

The brunette had decent technique, Hell, she even had decent power and obviously wasn't scared of getting hit. But some things are, in the end, unavoidable. And seeing as he was both better and stronger than her, it shouldn't come as too big a surprise when the knee connected, knocking the wind out of her and dropping her to the floor in a rather ungraceful manner. That her elbow had had just enough time to connect with his jaw with enough power to at least have his head spinning a bit, didn't much help because that too was damn unhappy about the current treatment. "Fu..."ck. She coughed, one arm clutched around her gut as she, while reluctantly, managed to tap the other hand on the floor twice. Okay, she just needed a minute, or maybe two, to remember how to breathe again. But, at least she was smiling? |

He backed up, rubbing his jaw slowly. That was probably enough blows to the head for him. He was probably looking into something along the lines of a concussion or mental retardation if he let another person pound on his skull for a while. "You OK?" His deep voice was soft... and a touch groggy. He hoped he hadn't driven that knee up hard enough to do any damage. It wasn't his intention but sometimes if he rushed he didn't judge his strength properly and he had no desire to see her with any real muscle damage. If she was smiling, then he probably hadn't harmed anything. That was good. "I'm gonna start losing IQ points if I take any more shots to the head today. So I might have to call it a day. My lady isn't going to appreciate me coming home too punch stupid to remember her name." |

CJ groaned slightly and simply rolled over onto her back so she could look up at him. Yeah, it had hurt like Hell but she was smiling, so no real damage had been done except having turned off the connection between her legs and her brain for a moment when he'd knocked the wind out of her. Funny effect that actually, when your body just decides something hurts enough to momentarily cut off the nerve functions to avoid the pain and in turn did such funny things as turn your legs all numb. "Somehow I imagine you're tough enough to take a few hits and still keep going" she chuckled and subsequently winched slightly before pushing herself up so that she was at least sitting. "Remind me never to get in a fight with you" and while she didn't say it, it was there in her voice, the suggestion that she figured he'd seen one too many fights to actually play nice if it had been anything other than a sparring match. "You're fast for a big guy. Hell, you're fast, period" |

"Ah well. I generally give folk a chance to change their mind. Then I hit them with a table." He was probably joking. His frost-blue eyes crinkling with amusement. He grinned and bent to offer her a hand up, his tattooed hand extended for her if she wanted a hand. Some folk were touchy about accepting help for a person that'd beat them. Not that he was sure it really counted. "I only seem fast because I'm big and people expect me to be a bit slow. Truth is, I'm only a little faster than average, and mostly in my hands. I'm betting you're at least as fast as I am. If you want advice though, focus more on the legs. If you'd danced around and worked my knees and ankles it'd have been a real bitch to chase you down." He didn't really give a yes or a know about his fighting experience. Just talked calm in that voice like black butter and held out a hand that looked to be more than a bit cybernetic. Good ink work'll do that. He was sincere too. She had good skills, just needed a bit more experience in how to do them. "It's true though, I can take a lot of hits. Stupid hits too. If I followed my own advice and some more time doing jump ropes and shit like that I'd probably get punched less. Sometime I'll gamble on being stubborn enough to stay on my toes... and I'll lose. That's the problem with banking on your body. Can only push it so far before it gives out." |

She reached out and took his hand, not about to feel butt hurt just because he was a better fighter than her. That kind of behaviour was just pathetic and while her meeting with the floor might've qualified for that label, she didn't need to act like it. "Yeah well, going for the knees and ankles comes with the risk of actually breaking something" and joints were not a good thing to break. Well, they were in fact a great thing to break if you were doing the breaking. Just not a good thing if you were the one being broken. "And you look tough enough to take it I have accidentally broken a few joints before and heh, yeah" well, write it off to poor control perhaps. She did nod though, because she was actually listening to what he was saying. It wasn't as if she'd learned to fight for the fun of it, so taking advice and learning from it was important. How the Hell else was she suppose to improve? "I'll admit though? Going up against a big guy like you? If I had anything even remotely reminding of a weapon on me I'd use it" because someone like him would still outpower her no matter how good she got. |

"Truth is, smart thing to do with a guy my size, is just run. No shame in it. Pack some mace, stun gun, that sort of thing. Key ring with brass knuckles and maybe get sneakers with steel toes. Best bet is to slam the kneecap as hard as you can and take off. Generally unless you're cornered, a fight just ain't worth seeing until the end." He grinned then, his blue eyes flashing as he reached up and rubbed his hair. "As for me... yeah. Us manly men are generally too stupid to just walk away from a fight when it gets going... and I might have been fond of a bar brawl or two before I started wising up. But even as much as I've practiced, I'd still just as soon walk away from a fight instead of risk getting taken down." It was the simple truth. Whole reason he tended to carry those collapsing batons is because he didn't do as much damage with them as he did with his own hands, and they hurt like a bitch to get snapped with. But then again, he hadn't gotten into a fight that he intended to end in a harsh way since he got out of Prison. Figured he'd like to keep it that way. |

"I'd add one thing to that strategy though. And that's to make sure he also stays down before going running" because that horror movie shit where the "heroine" hit the bad guy once and then went running and flailing her arms only to have him show up around the next corner? Well, fuck that. If she got someone down they'd stay down so she'd be sure she could run. "But yeah, I rather stay out of fights if I can" because she wasn't the type to actively seek out fights. She didn't avoid them if they came her way and they were warranted, but, she wasn't a thug and she wasn't a brawler. She was just a normal woman who knew how to fight. Though obviously hadn't been in the thick of it the way he had. "Luckily it's not women most men go for when they're out looking for trouble" most men, though far from all of them. Some liked easy targets. And some got real friggin' surprised when said target didn't turn out as easy as they might've originally thought. |

"Not that ones that deserve the name anyway. Kind of guy who goes out looking to start a fight with a woman isn't really deserving of the term, in my mind." There was a bit of a rumble to his statement as he said it. An obvious dislike to that kind of mentality. "I'm not saying women can't defend themselves or start fights mind you. I'm just saying the kind of who goes LOOKING to start a fight with a woman is probably the kind of asshole whose looking for one who can't fight back... and well, those kinda guys don't really deserve much in the way of oxygen to my thinking. Course, I dislike bullies in general." The big man chuckled and nodded his head as he stretched his arms behind his back slowly. "You're right though. No sense putting them down if they're not gonna stay down. That just means you've taken your eyes of the danger, and no sense doing that." He hopped the ropes on the sprarring mat and walked over to a heavy black duffel. Pulling out a dark towel he started scrubbing his head and neck, clearly ready to start cooling down. He'd meant what he said about the matches today. He should avoid taking any more hits to the head if he could avoid it. Still he grinned in a friendly way. |

"Relax, I'm not one of those over the top feminists who's gonna take everything you say in the worst possible way" there were already plenty of them in the world, no need to add to their numbers. Besides, she understood what he was saying as she nodded her agreement. Because fuck, some guys were just fucking useless. Same with some women actually. Though as it were she rarely bothered with either kind. She followed him out of the ring, stretching slightly and being a bit careful about putting too much pressure on her leg just yet. It would be fine in a little while. "You sure you're alright there big guy? You look a little dizzy" though she couldn't fault him for that after the hits he'd taken. Hm.. "You know, if you want I can give you a ride home? Wouldn't be good if you swirled off the road or something" in fact she'd feel pretty God damn awful of that happened. |

"Naw, I only live a few blocks from here. One of the reasons I come to this gym. That and I fixed up some stuff for the owner. Besides, once I get a block or two from home I tend to have a little collection of urchins waiting to show me their newest artwork on my building. So they won't let me down. I can give you my number, if you want to work on your speed tactics." Because she was good. Really just needed some practice in how to get in and out without letting a big old meat head like him control the fight with size. He did grin for a moment, thinking of those little London teen boys and girls and their excitement for painting on his building. Then again, he supposed most business owners sorta drove them AWAY from spray painting their building, as opposed to looking at it and rewarding the most creative. He'd noticed a couple of the apartments around the block were starting to get decorated. Wasn't sure if that was following his lead or just his encouraging the teens into becoming terrible vandals. Course, with his luck it was both. Next thing he'd know some Toreador street painter would try to eat him or something and use his kids as a herd. Still he shook off his woolgathering and grinned again at CJ, because she seemed laid back and alright. Always good to meet a few more laid back folks. Though, maybe not let them all kick him in the face like that. Because that stung a bit. |

Her smile widened with a soft chuckle when he mentioned the collection of street urchins because well, that was a cute picture. Big guy surrounded by a bunch of kids. "Well then, I'm sure you'll be able to find your way home" Hell f a lot safer to be walking after a work out like that anyway. CJ nodded at the mention of getting his number and moved over to fetch your typical hockey bag, pulling a cellphone out of it and turning the key lock off before tossing it over to him so he could simply put the number in himself. "Sure, sounds good. I could use a bit more training. Besides, you'd be surprised at how many guys don't actually wanna spar when you're a girl. As if they're either worried they might hurt me or worried I might make'm look bad" which were both equally ridicules because she entered the ring knowing what the deal was, just like everyone else. She grabbed a water bottle from her bag and dropped said bag on the floor before sitting down herself, legs crossed in a lotus positing. "Can't learn without experience though" and theory was all well and good but theory only worked until put into action. And well, theory wasn't the same as doing. |

"Better to have a woman kick your ass in the ring than knife you on the street because you decided boobs meant she couldn't fight. Besides, my Lucy... hell she can kick my ass. My friend Mac too. But I wouldn't have anyone spar with Mac. She's one of those folk with only 1 speed on the dial; ain't healthy to be on the receiving end of most of her skills. Still, she does a great job dealing with gang violence and what not." He rumbles along and passes along his number for her without a fuss. Lucy wanted him to socialize more. Damned if he could really figure why it was more comfortable to talk to people who tried to kick his melon off, but that was just how it was. "Besides, you're right. Only way to improve is practice an experience. Way to get experience without just asking for your ass kicked is to spar against people WITH experience. People who are serious about self-defense and fighting in general should share what they got with those looking. After all, it's how THEY got it in the first place." |

CJ nodded as she listened and took the phone back, actually taking a moment to send him a text message so that he'd have her number as well. The man made sense, and he seemed alright so she saw no harm in taking him up on his offer. "Yeah, sounds like you know what you're talking about too. Even when you've gotten punched and kicked in the head. That's sorta impressive" she added with a light teasing tone to her voice because she knew damn well that had the roles been reversed she wouldn't have been making any sense at all. Assuming she'd been awake in the first place. "Sounds like you hang with some tough women if they could take you out" like seriously... The scary scary kind if he was willing to up and admit that there wasn't just one woman in his life that could kick his ass, but two. Who were they? SheHulk And SheHulk Jr.? "Shit... I would've gone with your proposed tactic of getting you down, making sure you stayed down and then just run like Hell" well, theoretically she would've. But she knew herself well enough to know that things probably wouldn't have gone down that smoothly. |

"It's just a matter of smart fighting really. You may have noticed I don't exactly use much footwork to avoid blows. Truth is, even with my experience I'm just a fancy bruiser. I wade in, take punches and deliver the damage I need to end the fight. A SMART fighter dedicates as much or more practice to the skills used to avoid getting hit. If I weren't a lazy bum I'd spend some time working on those skills myself." He grinned but he was serious. His fighting skills WOULD be significantly better if he just put more effort into learning how to avoid getting high. "When I started training there was this weedy lil fellow. Arms like twisted string. People just looked at him and laughed. Until they had to spar with him. The guy was a GHOST. He'd just dance around like a breeze and jab you with nerve strikes. They didn't hurt much but after a while you'd be getting more and more awkward and sore and he'd be fine." He shook his head. Fellow had been a good enough kid really. Had some anger problems and then he'd lost track of him. Still he figured Chrissy could benefit from putting some thoughts into that. Muay Thai was good but could definitely benefit from a bit of "get out the way" thinking when she danced around. |

"Yeah, I usually try avoid getting in a clinch with someone. Just doesn't pay" the brunette shrugged lightly with that same relaxed smile as before. "Someone your size though? Yeah, I need to work on it to be able to keep out of your range. Shit, you got arms like a gorilla" not as disproportionate to his body as had they been actual gorilla arms but, he hopefully took the point without getting offended. "I mean, I'm not as likely to get in a fight as a man, but, sometimes shit happens" it was brief, the way her eyes strayed when she said it. But while her ghosts were faded and weak, and not something she let bother her in everyday life, perhaps he'd pick up on something. "Best to be prepared because the last thing I'm gonna put my trust in is people acting like responsible adults" CJ chuckled as she shrugged her shoulders lightly again and stretched to get the kinks out of her back and neck. |

"Grappling is generally a bad place to be unless you know what you're doing. Way to easy to get twisted into a bad place even by someone half your size, and yeah... if your opponent is strong enough, sometimes even knowing what you're gonna do isn't good enough." He had a feeling he knew what the look away was and the reason for the desire to fight for real. It was, unfortunately, all too common a reason for women to get into serious fighting training. Some men just made him want to pummel them into a grease stain so slick a rain would wash the remains away. Still, the woman didn't need pity that was clear. She had taken control of her life and taken steps to remove the chances of it ever happening again. He could respect that. He looked down at his own arms, regarding them like he's never seen them before, his frost blue eyes popping open wide. "My gods... you're right. I knew that all spinach diet would come back to haunt me." |

The quirky humour was appreciated with a soft laughter from the brunette who nodded and took a swig of her own water bottle. "Well, for what it's worth, you look better than Popeye" you know, he actually had biceps. Seriously, the people who designed that character must've had no clue what so ever about human anatomy because even for a cartoon character that was silly. Squinting eyes, huge chin, massive lower arms, no biceps, no chest... Yeah, weird weird physiology. As it was though, Toran had no such issues. The man was friggin' massive. She took another sip of the water before popping the cork back on and chucking it back into the bag she'd brought with her. Seemed like she was getting ready to leave for the day too. She had a job to get back to after all and while it was nice to hang out and actually chat someone outside of said work, life was life and life demanded she at least pretend to be a responsible adult. "You got the shoulders to match the arms" CJ added with a grin at him. "Which I'm pretty sure you woman appreciates" strangely enough perhaps, it didn't come across as flirting. She was simply the type would could say those things and just have it be what she said, no underlying messages or anything. It might be because she sucked at underlying messages, but who cared right? |
