The Times
The Kindred Chronicle
Key Figures
THE MONSTER OF EALING
Last night, several people reported the sighting of a "screaming red monster" in a quiet neighbourhood of Ealing. After a power shortage in the area, a building caught fire. It was then when, what was described as a "man shaped, footless creature" emerged from the flames, leaping, running, and screaming. One woman has told our reporters that the man had "teeth like a wolf, and the face of the devil". Police officers are still trying to get to the bottom of this; neither the power shortage nor the fire have still been explained. A spokesperson from Scotland Yard has stated that the "so called monster" might be a wounded person, escaping the fire.

TRAGEDY IN TOOLEY STREET
The police has found the bodies of three TFL workers in the construction site at Tooley Street. One of their colleagues raised the alarms last week, when the three workers didn't attend their shifts. The bodies of the men have been found in a deep hole, uncovered by the refurbishment works that are taking place in the area. According to the Police, the bodies were horribly mutilated, which has led to the wildest speculations. The names of the three workers are being kept anonymous, following the wishes of their families.

HOROSCOPE
MARCH 8 - PISCES
You are used to making sacrifices, to prioritising the happiness of others before yours. Even though that is a noble attitude, there are times in life where the only healthy alternative is to embrace your own selfishness and allow yourself some enjoyment. Reserve one hour per day to do something you really like. Treat yourself! Your colour for this month is blue.
Echoes from the past ring back into London. Their intensity increases until they are deafening. What once was a faded memory of a glorious time, now becomes a shocking reality. The consequences of actions taken decades ago ripple into the present, altering the lives of everybody in the City. Unguided and blind, Kindred wander around, trying to make profit out of the reigning chaos.

The appearance of four mysterious figures turned the city upside down. Mistrust and jealousy became the official currency of London. Serpents and fiends rise to power, misdirecting the blaming eyes of the Camarilla towards imaginary enemies. Only those with clear vision and the ability to trust each other strive, while the rest run towards a shallow grave.

For better or worse, the assembly was over. Not in the best way possible tho'. Tory raised her legs to the table, crossed them and waited for the last participant to leave while lighting another cigarette.

Looking stressed George had called Verity to collect the papers while he sat there, thinking about the meeting and the course it had taken... Fighting the urge to ask Tory for a smoke, he looked at her and asking her the question of the moment...

"I assume you wanted to ask something ? Now'd be the right moment, I say..."

After collecting the papers lying around Verity left again, leaving them alone in the room.

The puny woman fixed her eyes on George after scrutinizing the documents the man had distributed over the participants to the plan. She catched his eyes following the smoky traces of her cigarette, like a cat ready to jump on a mouse, and left the open case and her zippo on the table as soon as his ghoul, secretary or whatever left the place. A sort of modern peace pipe.

"This doesn't seem difficult at all." she said, turning the pages of the reports. "If what its said here is true, the Fiend is merely a sucking child. I've had no time to read about the second Cainite, but the real thread abut this chick might be the war ghouls more than the domitor herself. Have you handled her before?"

She looked at the pics attached to the paper. This couldn't be the bulk of the Sabbat. The girl posed no thread, a cub left behind. But what happened with the big bad wolfs? And why did he needed a Brujah contingent to lead with such a weak looking girl? "Is what rests in the shadows what he fears the most?"

"Are we there to kill those two, or are we going to regain some of their territory too?

As Tory mentioned the 'Warrick' woman, George seemed to tense up for a moment, his eyes filled with anger and hate as he appeared to remember something unpleasant.

"I met her once and it's a bit of a story, but since then I've been planning to kill her... The problem isn't her, her mate or the two ghouls... You see, I planned that we'll take a piece of Redbridge, if we can hold it, but the real problem is holding the gain long enough, that's why I need as many people as I can get..."

Pausing to let the words sink in, he unfolded a different map of London on the table, with a great blank white in lieu of the Sabbat-controlled territory and pointed at it.

"That is the situation we're basically running into... The East is our Terra Incognita, you know ? We don't know how many of them are still there... If we're lucky, she's the only one, if not, it might be swarming with them, the recon doesn't tell anything about that, as if they're hiding... It's basically a game with high stakes..."

Without thinking he took a cigarette and lit it, flinching back from the flame in reflex. Taking the first drag he coughed a bit like someone who fell back into smoking after a few smoke-free years. Looking at her again, he spoke on.

"I'd leave the choice to you: Leave me a contact address for the meeting just before it gets started, name your price and bring some friends, if you want to risk your life on my side or walk into the night... I'll probably get more of us as well, people thinking like Ares... We might both have to make deals we don't particularly like to get a piece of Eastern soil. Still think it's worth it ?"

"Not so fast." she said, showing both palms of her hands like telling George to slow down. "I need more data before moving."

The girl took the zippo back in her hand and started to turn it over, up and down, knocking the table with every swing.

"So the Tower doesn't have an idea how many of them could be hiding right now in Redbridge" she reproached. "I'm taking for granted the Camarilla asked the Nosferatu before giving you the permission to bring this mission forth. Am I right? Even so, we are wearing a blindfold."

She took a pen and a piece of paper and wrote something down, keeping the paper beneath her right hand for the moment.

"First of all: I want the girls numbers, I need to talk to them before the mission. Besides, I lost my guns when I moved to London. Can you provide me with such?"

"Basically yes, but I had additional recon arranged and they don't know as well...As I said, if they are there, they're in hiding, but might get out to attack us at any time we're there... As I said, it's risky..."

Listening to her wants, George took another drag of the cigarette, looking at her questioningly, leaning back, opening a bag which Verity brought and put a sixpack on the table.

"I can give you the numbers, but as a fellow Anarch, shouldn't you be able to ask them yourself ? If those are the girls you mean... We'll be having a meeting before we go, but sure..."

Writing the numbers on a piece of paper he passed them to her, thinking about her other demand...

"What kind of guns do you mean ? I'm sure I could arrange something, but tell me: Would I want to ?"

Taking a can of beer and opening it he watched her, waiting for her reaction...

She chuckled.

"Well, as long as you're not using me as shark bait, you'd want to."

She collected the numbers George gave her and thanked the man.

"Dessert Eagles. I had two of those cuties in Washington. Learned how to shoot both at once, but a single one would be fine." she lowered her face a little, keeping her eyes on George, and smirked. Her expression took a cocky hint, one free of any doubt or hesitation. Though being clear of even the slightest wrinkle and looking as young as of a 20ish woman, the Primogen could see, if he looked, something old and ancient in her eyes, something defiant. "That, and a hand-grenade."

"Alright, let me re-phrase that, if you don't mind... Would I be in the comfortable position to know that there won't be a scourge or sheriff at my door because you did something the Prince wouldn't like ? I mean, I probably wouldn't care unless you really provoked a sect war or killed someone on our side... How'd it look then ?"

Hearing her words with a frown he thought for a while on them, allowing himself to further the joke she made with a fitting answer.

"Why not an Hors d' oevre & Koch to go with it, while we're at it ? No, seriously, I think you know the gun laws around here, right ? I could perhaps get you a pistol, no Desert Eagle, but a bit smaller, perhaps a second one and a bit of ammunition, on loan, of course... The hand grenade is difficult though... I mean that's military-grade weaponry like submachine guns, rocket launchers or the like... You don't want to get caught by the police carrying one... I could see, if I get one, but I can't promise anything..."

Taking a drag from the cigarette, he looked different for a moment... Like a man, who started to get slowly burned out by the inner fire fueling his crusade yet unwilling or unable to stop...

"How the Camarilla settles its disputes, even if it is by putting the blame of my actions on you like a nanny it's not my problem nor my fault. If I ever provoke a sect war, I'll be acting on my own, but if your Prince can't unravel the misterious concepts of freedom and self responsability, then you'd better confiscate the gun after Redbridge. Though, in addition, I'd highly recommend replacing your chief for someone more capable of understanding the basic axioms of ethics." she snarled slowly, with the smoke of the last drag slithering through her mouth and making her look like a dragon about to spit. "I was gonna request giving the IMIs as a payment, but if you're so hampered by your laws, both Kine and Kindred, I'll thing on something else. Though I'll need the hand grenade or something equally lethal. Just in case. A hand-made explosive, if deadly enough, could suffice."

George didn't look impressed by her snarling. Instead he looked at her with an indignant look, then spoke in a matter-of-factly voice.

"Putting the entire domain at risk and a blood hunt on my head would be your fault and, if it ever came this far it'd be your problem as I'd be out to hunt and kill you, even if it was the last thing I'd ever do... I wouldn't like doing that, but if you did that, I'd make sure in any possible way that you'd not enjoy it for very long..."

After that he took a long drag from the cigarette, throwing the butt in a vase standing on the windowsill. With a tired look and a short sigh he went on.

"You talk like it'd be easy to shrug the orders of the Prince off, but I think be both know that even Princes are just bell-boys and underlings of more powerful Elders... Those are the real problem behind all that ! Justicars, Archons and the people who order them around, if they exist... See my point ? The whole Cam is like an army, only that there aren't retirements and the same people who've run the show 400 years ago still do today with the same ideas, motivations and methods... Dinosaurs who just don't get replaced and despite not understanding the times or even the people anymore still sit on their fat arses and keeping necessary change away, because they fear it..."

After a short breath he took another cigarette and lit it, flinching shortly, then rose with an angry look, flailing his arms around in a frustrated gesture.

"I didn't volunteer for being undead or Cam, you know ? I didn't fill out any form or joined any kind of club, they just kinda said 'Welcome in the Cam, stick to the rules or else... Know why I don't leave my post ? Since Primogen Palmer was killed, I have taken his rank. I've sworn to take care of the clan until I die or the Brujah of this city find a better man for the job... It's not about Princes, Elders or politics, it's about the people here in Grove Ward, living or undead... I've made it my duty to care about them and the humans in London because, let's be honest: Who else in this city calling himself Cammie does, if I stopped caring ? Who ? Call me an idealist, a fool, perhaps even a blind idiot, probably you're right, but I feel they deserve someone right here in this part of the city who does care... And that'd be me..."

He needed a longer while to get himself down again, taking his place at the table once again and looked at her still slightly agitated.

"You don't get my point, do you ? Explosives draw attention, quite a lot of it, which might be fatal to us... You'll get your pistols,I'll might not be able to get IMIs but some will be available. I'll have to see about anything explosive though because especially after the plane crashing into Trafalgar Square obtaining such things has become very difficult..."

"How can a law proclaimed by the Camarilla, that allows a Prince to put a Blood Hunt on the head of a Primogen for the decisions made by his supposed underlings, even if said underling is out of the organization, be my fault?" she said, pointing a finger to her own chest. "You want to hunt me down if I fuck with the Tower? Go ahead! I'm already looking forward to it! It's not like I'll be expecting to get away with murder if I decide to start a war, I know the consequences, and anyway I'd rather choose freedom. In any case, this is not the point of our meeting. You make questions, I answer, that's all. I don't want you to feel cheated if that day ever comes. But let me tell you something before we close this subject." she leaned forward in her seat. "You choose your own path, and I bet the ones you protect would be better without the Damocles' Sword of those mummies over their heads."

The woman followed George on his decission to take another cigarette, probably the only they'd ever agree that evening. A part of her liked his way, but another, more strident and definitely angrier too, loathed his conformism.

"You said you didn't like the idea of separating in two teams by sect." she lighted the cigarette and took a long drag. "Why? Because right know it looks like the better -maybe even the only- alternative. Any better ideas?"

George listened to her words with a sigh, then after she finished looked at her with a dead-serious expression and spoke.

"It is in the sense that the consequences of what you started will affect you as well... If I got bloodhunted because of your actions I'd make sure you'd get on the train as well, even if it was the last thing I'd do... Strictly hypothetical, of course... Just know this: The tower does only interest me to a certain degree, but if you got personal, I'd do the same..."

As she mentioned choosing own paths and people probably better off without the Elders and their fist threatening them, he started to laugh. It was a bitter, cynical laugh which went on for a while, then he looked at her.

"Look, I don't know, how old you are but older than me, I guess... But you know what ? Elders are everywhere, in all sects there are some, I suppose and they're all the same... So what would enlisting somewhere else change ? It'd be just another club, not trusting me with a different set of rules and the same kind of power-hungry, manipulating, narcisstic monsters somewhere above me... No, I believe that the Cam can be made better... from within. Perhaps I'm just a fool with big ideals, but why shouldn't it work ? Can't I make the world better as Cammie ? Is that what you're trying to say ?"

Silence filled the room for the time he took another drag and watched her reaction, thinking on her question. Then he spoke again.

"We need to have a certain level of trust in each other to be successful, you know ? Fact is that you can't always only work with people you like and I just try to get the point across... It isn't hard to be professional if one only works with people he likes..."

Tired of the ebb and flow about consequences, Tory skipped further discussions on the matter.

"I didn't know the purpose here was being professional, I thought the point was staying alive." she said, drawing a smirk. "Listen, this is my request: lets leave the professionality on hold until we finish the job. Anyway, we'll have an opportunity to change plans before the raid."

Taking her cigarettes and her zippo, Tory prepared to leave.

"I have no more questions. Time to leave, unless you have any."

"It is. Being professional wouldn't hurt either, you know ? I mean would it kill you to actually try working with us and not just alongside us ? Trying to trust us enough to try form a functioning work relationship and not only rely on your sect mates to cover your rear ? I mean just this one time ?"

Another drag and another frustrated breath later he looked at her preparing to leave.

"I don't have any questions now... I'll contact you once the meeting before the final meeting starts and you can bring some friends, if you like and they'd be willing to help us..."
