Hokay! So Max here has been approved. I was pretty vague about his history before five years old because I was hoping to brainstorm. When he was five, he moved with his mother to Australia. He can't remember his father, and hasn't been told anything about his father's side of the family, or why they had to leave London. Is there anyone here whose character might have had a kid who was taken away at 5 years old? Failing that, anyone who'd claim a half-brother, or a cousin or something if Max were to go looking? Any reason why a human woman would want to flee London and its society with her five year old son? Either for safety or because she was forced? Any help in brainstorming this or suggested connections would be great.

Hi! I read through your application. I like it! Max seems very sweet. This might be a little too contrived, but when I read about Max's mother's exodus, it reminded me of an unexplained vanishing I put in Jane's backstory. They were born around the same time, and Jane's Irish mother disappeared when she was very young with no explanation. That was in New York, but the woman was an Irish immigrant, creating a connection back to the England area, and some threat that killed/abducted one woman might frighten another badly enough to make her flee halfway across the world. Let me know if an "our mothers were somehow connected and threatened by a mysterious force" story interests you! |

Margo was adopted by her parents at age 4. There is no details of her prior life. However, that was all (most likely) in the United States. |

Dylan was born, raised, and embraced in Australia. They could have a connection in a few different ways. Dylan did some shows, performing in a band, nothing major. What do you think, thats just one though I am open for anything though. |

Oh that would be cool, if they did know each other. He might not be connected by family, though. I'm going to work on writing a thread for people to join; he's not going to start searching straight away. He's got to get himself settled, first. But I think that would be cool. Max is Brisbane raised, though, rather than Melbourne - could Dylan have been to/stayed in Brisbane for a while? |

Dylan may have played in Brisbane a few times, though he probably did not stay there for more than a weekend at a time. |

I'm still interested in finding a familial connection for Max. Jane - I do like your idea about the mothers being connected, but we'd still have to figure out what the mysterious force was/is! |

So in order for both their parents to be victimized, it has to be something to do with their family. Three suggestions: 1. Max's and Jane's mothers were sisters or cousins who came from a long line of Celtic diviners who used the tree ogham and yew wands to divine the future. A powerful Malkavian became interested in their family, and tracked down the surviving members. He took Jane's mother with the intent of using vitae to enhance her sight/learn her family's practices, but she who managed to send a warning to Max's before killing herself/being thralled/embraced. 2. Max's and Jane's mothers were sisters who are descendants of an elder or ancilla vampire who is still around somewhere, and one of his enemies decided to move against him by killing his living descendants, who were important to him. Jane's mother was killed, though Jane and her brothers were missed. Grandpa vampire managed to warn Max's mother and ship her and her child away to Australia while he fought his Jyhad against this enemy. This gives them a mysterious, powerful enemy that might notice them again now that they're back in England, and possibly an undead ancestor, depending on who survived. 3. Max's and Jane's mothers were sisters whose father offended a nasty European Toreador who decided to fuck with the family for revenge. Jane's mother fled to NYC to escape, but did not, Max's mother successfully ran to Australia. Now that Max and Jane are back, the vendetta may continue. 3a. Another possible interpretation: the nasty Toreador was Max's father, recently embraced, who was angry his wife wouldn't join him in undeath, and killed her sister to scare her into cooperating, which backfired since she ran away. I love that throughout reading that, my one question was "Yes, excellent, but what about Max's father?" I do like the third option. Now what would be really grand is if there were a nasty Toreador character who exists, who was turned between 1984 and 1989, who'd like to play with us. Or if someone wants to create one. >.> <.< Or, if no one feels inclined to play Max's Daddy dearest, we could just say that this nasty European Toreador killed Max's father, too. Which could also work for option number 2 - mysterious enemy could have come for Max's mother, except his father got caught in the crosshairs, and died. His mother and him got away. Would still love for there to be someone around who'd have this vendetta against them. But that could be something we bring up again in future. For now we could say that Max tracks down his cousin, Jane, somehow? |

Rock on. Let us leave the role of evil, Embraced between 1984 and 1989, possibly Toreador (no need to limit it now that I think about it), possibly Max's dad looming threat open for now. Maybe post an advert for it on this board. Let's say that old letters to a sister were found in that box Max opened, including a picture of his mother's sister with an infant child and two young boys, and some details about where they lived. A letter to the same address would put Max in contact with Jane's brothers, who would mention that their sister is also in England. |

Excellent! Sounds like a plan. ![]() I can start a thread for it, and PM you the link. You could post to play Jane's brothers? Who would also be Max's cousins, so he'd probably not look for Jane specifically? Just anyone related to his Aunt..? Should we assume there's a vague half-story in the letters? Normal letters to begin with, between two sisters who miss each other, which grow a little more urgent the more recent they get? |

I like that idea. Mysterious implications possibly explaining Jane's mother's vanishing. And yes! That is a good plan for posting. |

Okay, excellent! Does Jane's mother have a name? And whereabouts should I post it/where does Jane live now? |

Lily! Is her name. I have just decided. Short for Lillian. And Jane lives in Sutton, but probably post the initial thread in Cold Callers, which is where we do phone, texting, and email interactions! |

So wait. He'll show up on the doorstep of the address on the letters. From there he'll be given another address? You said something about him meeting her brothers? Or will he be given a contact phone number? Either way, I'll want to write at least a few paragraphs to detail how he got to that point. You sure that's the best place to post it? It's not going to JUST be a phone call... |

Oh love. Here's the misunderstanding: Jane's brothers live in NYC. Here's the order of events I'm thinking. 1. Max sends a letter to Jane's family at their Queens address. Saying basically: I know you exist! We're related! I'm in London! 2. Her brothers call him/send a letter back saying: That's awesome! Our sister's in London! You should catch up! And give them Jane's phone number. 3. Jane and Max communicate via phone and plot progresses from there. Many Cold Callers threads progress quickly into other threads in other places! It's normal and fine to start a plotline in one area, and then rapidly transfer to another. |

Okay, that makes more sense. But he would have got their Queens address from someone at an old address in London? I think for my sake, I'd like to write the first two points out - as a character progression thing, rather than just start with the phone call. We could certainly do the phone call in Cold Callers, but I'll probably link it to a thread that I'll start somewhere else. He's a new character is all, and I don't want to go rushing over big plot lines. -nods- |

I expect Max would have the Queens address of Jane's childhood home from the letters that her mother sent his mother that he found in the box. That address would put Max in contact with Jane's brothers, one of whom still lives in that house. Please do! I would love to play Jane's brothers. |
