The Brightest Memory; Just a Drabble while waiting for everyone. I just want to write and maybe share a piece of Braiden's history, if I may.

The flowers swayed in the gentle wind as tiny caramel coloured feet ran off down the hill, girlish laughter tearing through the silence as her father chased her down the hill. It had been two years since they had carved Marie's name, Braiden's mother and Shadow's wife, in the tree that carried the names of the Family. The little girl didn't want to think about it anymore, even though she could remember the day she was officially allowed a knife to write the name. Braiden heard her name being called, and she stopped by the river, giggling and stopping down to catch her breath. Shadow slowed to a stop beside her, strong hands lifting her up to twirl her around before she was set upon her shoulders. "One day, Braiden... You will be the finest thief in the Family, you know that? And you'll lead us all.. That's what I want for you."

"But Papa.." Her hands went to pat his scruffy cheeks, tattoos already starting to cover her tiny wrists and fingers. The signs of a natural born thief. "I don't want to. I want to follow you!" She giggled at that, her mind totally set. She would follow her father, and then his predecessor, whoever decided to take up the name of leader. To step up for the Family. All she heard was Shadow sigh, and then an "alright" escaping his lips. As he went to bring Braiden down from his shoulders, he cradled her to his chest to press a smooth stone in her hands.

"Your mother's, dearest flower," he whispered softly with a smile. "It'll look pretty on your neck and bosom once you grow." Her dark green eyes blinked up at him, and she gave him the brightest smile while squealing.

"Papa! It's pretty!" Shadow set her free as she ran off to play with the clasp, eventually figuring it and clipping it around her small neck. Only then did she notice the small flick of blood splatter across her cheek and hands, curiously looking down at the precious liquid. Braiden never heard the cry of her name, and she turned to see her father on his knees, swords and knives starting at his shoulders, all of them double sided blades. The grass beneath him was stained a crimson red, an agonising look on Shadow's face as he hiss words to the King of Polaris. All she heard was "Not the child" before her scream tore through the air.

"Papa! Paapaa!!" The tears flowed from the beautiful eyes of his daughter as he smiled wickedly, turning on one of the soldiers to tear a piece of skin off of their neck with his teeth. An unfamiliar hand grabbed hers, dragging her off towards the Tree. Her legss couldn't carry her, and eventually she was picked up by a boy she never met, watching her father follow her desperately. Slipping into a small cave under the tree that contained the roots as old as the earth, Braiden wathed as her father fell to his knees before the Tree, gasping for air. His blood dripped into the cave, making a small pool as it continued to slide down his fingers, dripping off the tips.

She sat up with wild, manic eyes in the middle of the night. Aeron's head shot up with hers, and their eyes met for a brief moment before the girl's shoulders started to shake like they always did, and he knew. Her father was coming back to haunt her again, and he would be there until the day she died. Twenty two, and she still wasn't over the murder.

Aeron went to sit next to Braiden on the bed, the little girl he promised to take care of the day he took her away, pulling her close. "Let it all out," he murmured softly, his voice oddly comforting to her as his hand stroked her hair. So the muffled sobs came, and they didn't stop until she fell asleep a few hours after.

Another day spent in bed. Braiden had started wasting this last month away, the Family falling in shambles. Not even Aeron was allowed into her room as she wallowed in her mistakes, the deaths she had to endure her entire life. Many people had come seeking her guidance, but all that they had gotten was something sharp thrown at the door, the tip of the weapon protruding from the door. It was convincing the whole Family that she had finally gone mad, that she didn't need anyone. That was until Braiden finally came out in the middle of the night, looking for Aeron immediately. Something had popped up that she wanted to discuss about, that her leadership might have passed over to him when she had started acting like this.

Aeron's breath hitched when he saw her standing in his doorway, his enhanced senses making it her features all so clear. Rising up from his bed, he opened his arms to her only to have Braiden's small form mold into his, and he could tell that this was what she needed. She wanted everything back, her Family, her sanity. Petting the raven hair, Aeron couldn't help but bring her face up to his to press gentle kisses all along her face. She only uttered three words into Aeron's ear, huskily, her voice full of want after he had confirmed she could have what she wanted back.

"Make love to me." And the door was hastily shut and locked.
