Since this is poll for the show, I have to vote for Renly. But if it were based on the books, I would vote for Stannis. He's so much better in the books.

The steel was polished to such a high sheen that she could see her reflection in the breastplate, gazing back at her as if from the bottom of a deep green pond.
The face of a drowned woman, Catelyn thought. Can you drown in grief?
She turned away sharply, angry with her own frailty. She had no time for the luxury of self-pity.

Robert. He's funny and unpredictable, loving and cruel, good and selfish, but he's the only one beyond the three brothers who can't be manipulated and who knows how to choose the right ally.

Considering how well Robert and the Starks have fared, I don't think you could be more wrong

The Starks were both good and strong people. Ned was a good choice, just like Jon Arryn.
Spoiler: click to toggle

Robert fared during 15 years with Jon Arryn along.

I agree, they were good people. No doubt can you trust them, but they're terrible players at the Game of Thrones. Let's just recap their major victories and losses:

I'd sooner take my chances with the scheming Lannisters. Though, honestly, the best ally is quite clearly House Tyrell. Not likely to stab you in the back, but not about to get decimated either.

Robert and the kingdom did not fare well during the 15 years. Cersei had an affair with her brother which he never realized, his official heir was a raging lunatic, and the kingdom was millions in debt to none other than the Lannisters. Jon Arryn is also dead, so that position didn't work out to well for hm either. In fact, Jon Arryn's time as hand is when many of the issues that ultimately sprung the War of the Five Kings started to come into existence. They also appointed Littlefinger to a position of power, despite the fact it takes literally one episode to establish he's not trustworthy in the least
