P.T. (2014)

The demo for a mysterious new game called P.T. came out last week on the PlayStation 4. In it, you explore a house where a man murdered his family, and which is now haunted by the spirits of his victims, particularly his wife Lisa, who stalks you mercilessly.

If you have a PS4, download this thing now. It's free, it's gorgeous, and it's scary as fuck. Hard as hell, too -- it's only about an hour long, but the people who beat it are only now starting to guess precisely how they managed to do it. This is one of those puzzle-heavy survival horror games. You will need to look up a guide to figure out how to beat it.

To say any more would be spoilers. If you want to know what the game's really about, continue on...

Fingers crossed I'll already have a PS4 by the time it's released. It looks really terrifying from the teaser.

The steel was polished to such a high sheen that she could see her reflection in the breastplate, gazing back at her as if from the bottom of a deep green pond.
The face of a drowned woman, Catelyn thought. Can you drown in grief?
She turned away sharply, angry with her own frailty. She had no time for the luxury of self-pity.

Yeah. Hell of a way to announce something like that.

I've heard that there's gonna be more news at the Tokyo Game Show next week, but nothing playable like this.
And here's the news: a second teaser. Still a "P.T. concept movie". Definitely some freaky shit; expecting a lot of nope when I start playing it for real.

Well... this sucks. Looks like it's canceled thanks to Kojima and Konami splitting on what were, by all accounts, fairly poor terms. Furthermore, they're pulling the P.T. demo from the PlayStation Store this Wednesday.

I suspected this was coming once all the drama started with Kojima and Konami, but I still can't describe how disappointing this is.
Quote:

Following yesterday’s news that Konami would be pulling Silent Hills teaser P.T. from the PlayStation Store next week, director Guillermo del Toro told the audience at a San Francisco Film Society event that his collaboration with Hideo Kojima is no longer a going concern.

The news came by way of a tweet from photojournalist Matt Hackney (via NeoGAF), who was in attendance at last night’s “An Evening with Guillermo del Toro” event in San Francisco.

Io9 Observation Deck contributor Remedios Varo was also on hand for the event and discussed the news on Twitter earlier today.

While del Toro’s comments don’t necessarily mean the Silent Hills project is completely cancelled—we’ll have to wait for official word from publisher Konami on that one—it certainly indicates that at least one of the driving forces behind the game is no longer involved. And with the current muddy relationship status between superstar game director Hideo Kojima and Konami, it’s likely neither is attached. Toss in an apologetic tweet from Silent Hills star Norman Reedus...

...and the game’s fate would seem to be sealed.

It’s crazy that such a well-received teaser as P.T. would ultimately lead to a dead end. It’s sad to think that soon all that’s left of such a promising project might be echoes of enthusiasm in a completely different game.

Here's a video that's supposed to be explaining what went on. The original uploader got hit with copyright claims, so it's proooooobably true (otherwise why not use, say, libel/slander, which would be easy to use if it's a rumor they really want squashed)

Also a brief summary from another viewer:
Quote:

CEO has been dabbling in gambling and trying to do a business in it which is currently illegal in Japan. On top of that he axed Kojima because he didn't bring in enough money to his liking despite MGS being lucrative.

Also he flats out doesn't like Kojima which is why they tried to erase his name on everything.
Mobile gaming is cheaper to make so he wants to focus on that and MGS and DDR both hang in the balance.

Also the anonymous source said how hundreds will lose their jobs and the DDR team was forced to merge. Silent Hills is officially dead and don't be surprised if they try to take down anything else Kojima related.

I saw the gameplay of the teaser, and WTF was that! Those tasks were impossible to solve without a walkthrough.
