I saw a 4 pack of Platinum Dunes slasher remakes in a $10 bin and found it funny since they were huge deals when they came out. Some are remembered sort of but there are a lot of forgotten ones. I think the rememered is Halloween because it was directed by Rob Zombie and turned Michael and his family into white trash. No other remake changed the background of the main villain as much as Rob did and he was successful in making Michael his own.

re: Jason. I would probably say TCM, since it started the trend and the tropes everyone thinks of when they think remake (eg glossy visuals). |

I grew to accept what Jason did in the reboot because it built up his momma's boy tendencies. Michael's evil was explained but it was dirtier and really different than the previous ones. I'd rank them in terms of remembrance 1. Halloween 2. Texas Chainsaw Massacre (Jessica Biel and it's look) 3. Friday the 13th (Back to Roots, Derek Mears was a good Jason) 4. My Bloody Valentine 3D (Great 3D and bloody fun) 5. Sorority Row (Great Cast and cult following) |

I more meant that RZ turned Michael into Jason. I didn't have a problem with Jason keeping Whitney and think it's a stupid complaint (same goes for the "out of character" running). |

RZ Michael is sort of Jason-like but it's the flashbacks that make me think RZ did a complete a 180 on Michael when you compare the boy from the remake to the brief glimpse of kid Michael we see in the original. |

It's obviously TCM imo It's the one that started the remake-trend in recent years, and is often regarded as one of the better remakes.

This isn't a favorite list though I doubt I Spit On Your Grave, House Of Wax (minus the clever Paris marketing, perhaps), MBV, or RZH/2 are remembered. The only one I'd say is remembered on this list is ANOES for being so bad ![]() I don't think the white trash style makes RZH/2 remembered because it's generally just Rob Zombie's style. |

Yeah. Unless you want to count Donnie in the Friday remake and The Racist in TFD, there's no one really trying to copy the redneck thing. TCM has the stuff already mentioned, and also I think started the tomboy heroine thing. Plus, the House of Wax and Friday remakes are basically retreads of it in general. And PD is the first thing people think of when they think remake. |
