Is there any horror films that you consider that go too far?

Just wondered if anybody has ever been so grossed out by a horror movie, that they just thought it was too horrific?

I was uncomfortable watching the rape scenes in I Spit On Your Grave, but ultimately enjoyed the movie. Are there any films you've seen that you found too graphic? Or dealt with issues that were too hard-hitting?

Recently, I watched Tusk with this face: O_O for the entire second half.

But the only times I'd say a movie actually goes too far are 1. when real animals are abused, or 2. when the "shock" stuff gets gratuitous and unnecessary. But then it becomes more comical than disturbing. "Inside" comes to mind as being borderline Tom and Jerry with a pregnant woman. Or nearly anything in Saw 3-7 (ie 4 hour brain operation scene). Not even gonna bother with vomit and poop movies like Salo.

The first one is where I draw the line. It's why I still have not watched Cannibal Holocaust. As for the second one, like you said, something that tries to go out of the way to shock me usually winds up turning into a live-action Itchy & Scratchy/Happy Tree Friends cartoon. It makes me laugh and cheer, yes, but it's hard to get really shocking unless the violence is painfully realistic -- like in Lone Survivor, which wasn't even a horror movie but was still a very grueling film to watch.

Seriously too far. I finally just found a no-animal-kills stream so I could say I saw the horror "classic" once (even ignoring those, it's overrated)
As for things just trying to desperately to shock me, I equate them to Miley Cyrus at the VMAs. Trashy, pointless, and desperate for attention.

This.

At the end of the day they're movies so nothing really gets to me. As has been pointed out, though - I won't tolerate anything with actual cruelty to animals.

That wasn't even that great. I watched the clip everyone dreads from that movie and there was no evidence or good shots of full blown penetration. Weak. Just weak.

Cannibal Holocaust is weak. So a turtle gets clipped. Woo.

There are very few movies which can make me go "NOPE!". In fact I can't think of any off hand. Child violence is not only typical, but I encourage it. Animal violence just evokes a numb nothing in me. I guess fingernail abuse is a little bleh.

I've seen more horrific (and wholly illegal) things on the internet than anything a horror flick has tossed at me. That having been said, nothing much phases me.

I watched a video of some sadistic guy killing a rat, cutting it open, and having sex with the corpse via the new hole. Now THAT made me squick.
