A soldier introduces himself to the Peterson family, claiming to be a friend of their son who died in action. After the young man is welcomed into their home, a series of accidental deaths seem to be connected to his presence.

I LOVED this movie. Adam Wingard is officially my favorite director working in horror right now (I'll forgive him for the bookends of VHS...)

YES! It was amazing, probably my fav. horror of 2015 so far (just beating out Wolf Creek 2) And loved Dan Stevens as well

Not giving it to Wingard yet, though he is good. Especially when we have Bitchcraft/Madness Ends/Town that Dreaded Sundown guy with zero weak links (hi VHS) and the Maniac remake topped them both. Probably top 5 or so though.

Well, The Seven Wonders.
The directing for that was the best part, though (MIsty's hell anyone?) The awful script wasn't his fault in the least (there's no way he can overthrow showrunner Ryan Murphy with all the stupid bullshit going on in that)
Plus, even that disaster beats the frame narrative of VHS, which Wingard was responsible for writingwise :ohno:

Hmm. True on Seven Wonders. Though Wingard didn't write the frame narrative of VHS (or YN/TG, for that matter).

Huh. It seems strange he'd agree to direct the frame narrative if he didn't like it and had no say, though, but the directing for that was okay (if unspectacular) If it wasn't for the guys, it'd basically just be bland and unmemorable like 2's frame narrative.

Directing for You're Next and The Guest were completely on point, and he (usually) picks good scripts. I'm mainly just waiting to see what all three guys have left to offer before picking. And, honestly, as disastrous as the Oculus script was, the directing was stellar. If he stops writing and sticks to directing well written scripts, he could be up there too

But yeah, I seriously loved this. And David has got to be my fav. horror character in I don't even know how long. At least 5 years, since he's my fav. of the 2010s
It's now on Netflix. Kevin should go watch :sistrens:

I actually kinda feel like rewatching already

While I do like It Follows, a part of me resents it a bit because I feel like it stole this movie's thunder. They both capture that 80s style complete with John Carpenter-esque score, and even have the same lead girl, but while this was praised by critics it seems to have gone under regular people's radar. It's like the middle child of retro horror.

Yeah, I'd kinda throw in YN as stealing the thunder too. And Erin especially stole David's thunder

But You're Next was made first...by the same people...and wasn't really "retro", at least as much as TG/IF...

True. I mainly just think Erin/David anyways :wtf2:
It Follows definitely stole it way more. It's also easily the most overrated of the bunch (still good, but) and probably my least fav. of them. I also don't really like how It seems to be getting more attention than David
