Who do you believe was the last great final girl? I ask since the staple final girl has definitely changed in my opinion. Was it Erin from You're Next? Jay from It Follows? Scarlett from As Above So Below? Mia from Evil Dead? Dana from The Cabin in the Woods? Laine from Ouija? Blaire from Unfriended? Eve from The Woman in Black: Angel of Death? Sarah from Starry Eyes? Some other one I haven't mentioned?

Not rly the best thread considering horror seems to be back on a rise, so there won't be a "last," but as for the characters: Erin-overrated, but great for a horror satire that flipped the "woman in peril" stereotype Jay-by far the best of the ones posted, easily relatable, weak, complicated; she felt like a real person & kept me entranced throughout the film Scarlett-considering AASB wasn't much of a horror throughout its running time, she came off more as a female version of the typical archaeologists we see in films of the time & didn't particularly speak to me as a character Mia-despite being possessed for most of the film, she's another FG I identified with greatly, it was a believable scenario, Levy's straining performance probably tops any others in the franchise going through all the character did & while I may have liked David better, I'd love to see a follow-up with her Dana-regardless of being given the "virgin" archetype, she wasn't completely a stereotype & neither were her friends & that's what made them work so well, even if the supporting characters did manage to be more interesting at times, she's one of the last "typical" FGs I will be happy with Laine-every character in that God damn movie was trash; portrayed in the dumbest matter, I was just waiting for all the interchangeables to die, so she clearly didn't stand out even if I love Cooke Blaire-haven't seen yet & I doubt many others have this early, so I'll just have to wait to see even if I love Hennig, but the characters being rather insensitive dicks from the looks of it makes it seem like I won't give much of a fuck & that tends to happen with revenge slashers Eve-can one even consider a supernatural protagonist of this type a FG tho? I haven't bothered yet because the first was absolute derivative trash & despite the interesting plot, the sequel seems to be no better, so she comes off rather misplaced Sarah-considering what happens in this movie, no way in hell should she be on this list, interesting character, fantastic performance, & best horror of 2014 (in my opinion) be damned, things didn't exactly end on a note that would have her transcend the role she was given |

The last GREAT one for me was Christine Brown in Drag Me To Hell. But I also really like Mia and Erin. Haven't seen It Follows yet, but I expect good things since I liked the actress as another final girl in The Guest. |

I don't necessarily mean we won't get another great final girl but instead which recent final girl too you was great. I loved Erin from You're Next, Jay from It Follows, Sarah from Starry Eyes. I also loved the one I considered to be the final girl in The Lazarus Effect. But my favorite is definitely Erin. She wasn't necessarily the most developed but she was just so fun to watch. I wasn't sure to put Eve from The Woman in Black 2 but I figured that's the closest those films had to one so why not.

If we're talking final girls of the same stature as Laurie Strode, then the only real contender for the title IMO would probably be Sidney Prescott, but that's just me. That said, that series' "golden age" (in popularity, at least) was in the '90s, and we have had some very good final girls recently. I agree with Erin from You're Next and Jay from It Follows; they were both radically different characters, but they were both huge parts of what made their respective stories work. Sarah from The Descent is also one I'd put on my list. And having just seen Unfriended, I'd definitely nominate Blaire. She looks like the traditional "final girl classic" (cute, virginal, morally "clean", the Laurie Strode archetype) at first, but without spoiling anything, the more we learn about her, the more that's slowly peeled away, revealing a far more morally complex character underneath. |

I think I'd have to agree with this. There were others I really liked, but none I'd say were great Erin definitely does not come in a one thousand mile radius of my list. I like her okay, but she is so, so annoyingly overrated. That said, going by the OP's list, Blaire was definitely the best of them. Edited by Repo, Apr 25 2015, 06:18 PM.

I am honestly surprised with the Blaire love. I liked her and thought she was refreshing, but almost everyone I know who saw it thought she was the worst final girl of all time. |

Well, to be fair Spoiler: click to toggle The hate is pretty justified, and I actually hate her too. But that stuff also is why I like her as a character and thought she was an interesting change of pace. I think it helps that Spoiler: click to toggle
