I'm sure The Perfect Guy not being screened for critics is as shocking as anything else in it. This actually got some decent enough reviews. |

This was ooooooooooooooooooookay, I guess. It had some really creepy moments, and the concept is really good, but it could have been executed so much better. Biggest issue is by far the pacing. It just takes so long for the plot to get moving. For a good majority of the film there's only the occasional scare. It just moved way too slow. The twist is also obvious, and honestly it shouldn't have even been a twist. Revealing it right up front could've been used to help the pacing tremendously and set up a lot more tension. The rapping scenes were also painfully stupid. It is overall okay, and it's probably M. Night's best movie in over a decade (cause that's saying a whole lot Wasn't his last not-bad movie Unbroken? I know Signs had a few fans but). It's just disappointing because it could've been really good, but it just feels like a lot of wasted potential.

How's the humor? M. hasn't done a comedy yet. Well, besides She's All That apparently. |

There were a few kinda funny moments, but nothing that really makes you laugh out loud. And some of them are truly painful (the rapping, mainly) I'd argue it misses the comedy mark even more than the the horror one, a lot of the comedy scenes just felt like the normal occasional ones you get in horror movies. |

M Knight Shamalan's reputation aside I am mildly interested in this after the weekend buzz it had. I did hate the trailer though |

Jersey boy for life!

I saw this a few days ago, and while it's not a great film by any means, it's still M. Night Shyamalan's best movie in over a decade. I wouldn't quite call it a return to form, but it's still a decent flick. I really liked the characters and the actors, and once it got going it was quite scary, but it wasn't very well paced, and some of the humor was jarring. I had the twist spoiled for me, but I can't really say that ruined the film; instead, I was looking throughout the film to see if what was happening on screen gelled with what I knew was actually going on. In that regard, it definitely works better than The Gallows. My full review is here. Oh, and it's time to move this thread now that the film is out. (I think it would go under Psychological.) |

Spoiler: click to toggle Long story short, enjoyed this. Creepy and funny. The kids were really likable, and the actress playing Nana was great. |

My mom and I totally called that twist so early on Agreed on the kids AND on Nana. My main issue was the pacing, I think it would've been better if Spoiler: click to toggle I mean, when this was creepy it was so creepy. It just needed more creepy scenes Edited by Repo, Sep 26 2015, 12:18 AM.
