He didn't say your opinion is wrong, he said voting for a movie knowing there are others probably worse is wrong. I'm not going to bother with Cars either, which is why I abstained from voting. As for Wall-E...it's okaaaay. A bit slow and definitely overrated (people acted like it was the second coming when it came out), but I didn't find it preachy. It probably depends on what you yourself bring to the table. You call a future where everyone is fat, co-dependent on technology, and ruled by a corporation while Earth is turned uninhabitable "exaggerated". I call it a documentary.

Oh, well, apologies for the misunderstanding Well, there's also the fact the planet is a barren wasteland and the movie ends with them playing a tree or whatever as a sign of hope

But the planet being a barren wasteland is the whole plot. What are they supposed to plant to regrow things, Hershey's kisses? Needing plants to survive on Earth isn't preachy liberal shit, that's basic science. Unlike Avatar where the trees have spirits or something in them and a tree falling over is played like a scene from Schindler's List.

No, I definitely know you need plants to survive on earth. I'm kind of at a disadvantage debating this because I haven't seen this since theaters and BARELY remember it at all beyond bare basics (another big negative) I just recall pretty much every part of the movie pushing a "humans = lazy, take care of environment" thing That said, even going by TV Tropes, other people felt it was preachy at points. I'm definitely not alone in finding it that way. |
