The Big Short (2015) Rated R for pervasive language and some sexuality/nudity ![]() I watched this with my mom the other night, because neither of us had gotten around to seeing it yet but we both wanted to. Both of us loved it. The way it presents all the complicated concepts it tries to teach the viewer about was like if Bill Nye taught economics instead of science, and it definitely helped me understand a lot of the craziness that went on before and during the housing crisis. But this isn't a documentary, it's a traditional movie, and it worked just as well on that front. The writing is a mix of hilarious and depressing, but in a very good way; the two were balanced enough that the film was able to take its subject matter seriously without becoming downright soul-crushing. The cast was great; my favorite was probably Steve Carell, if only because he reminded myself and my mom of a certain member of our family, but everyone did amazingly. Overall, it's just a really damn good movie. My full review is here. |
