I'm in California dreaming about who we used to be
|
Yeah, I agree with everything you said. I never will get why some horror films intentionally try to follow the "code" of other films. Maybe it's because it's proven to work so they think if they do that as well they will become popular. |

I would definitely agree with everything Kevin said as well, and now I think it's partially because it IS the norm that movies won't do anything different. I've definitely seen my fair share of movies with two characters who could've lived (guy or girl) given typical conventions without being mindblowing and they almost always go with the girl, often because it's been done before. Now, if the girl is likeable I don't mind too much..... but when the guy is really good and the girl is sucky, well, it kind of ruins the ending for me personally. |

Personally, while I don't need a goody-two-shoes for a lead, I prefer the tough, kind, likeable final girls. Sure, some may be a bit too innocent, but can you imagine some stupid, shallow, ditzy slut living? That would be awful! And most of them are so annoying that I find myself really rooting for them to die. I mean, it may be typical, but don't most cliches happen for a reason? It's because they work; if having a slutty final girl worked, we'd probably see one by now |

I'd rather see the token "slut" (Such as Sasha from Urban Legend) live over the main girl (Such as Natalie) It'd be more interesting and I like them more <3I disagree, cliches DON'T work but they happen because filmmakers are lazy and can't be bothered to actually try anything new. And we HAVE seen a slutty final girl, Megan from Friday 6. She's one of the best received heroines of the series Any other thoughts? Edited by Repo, Sep 2 2013, 02:59 PM.

Jersey boy for life!

Better yet, I'd like to see a slasher film in which the "good girl" is actually the villain... and have her killing spree tied to her morality. Going back to what I said about old-school slashers reflecting '80s morality, here we have a young lady who is all the stereotypes of the "final girl" cranked up to eleven -- prudish, uptight, and very moralistic. The twist at the climax is that she's the killer, judging her sexed-up, hard-partying classmates to be morally corrupt and destined to be losers, lowlifes, and degenerates when they grow up, people who the world would be better off without. The real final girl would be the "liberated" woman who drinks and has sex yet is still successful, finally putting an end to our holier-than-thou Goody Two-Shoes' rampage. |

I'd love this if the "good girl" really being the killer/turning evil wasn't already done to death. That said, I do love the motive itself XD Same for the non-innocent one axing her |

Because filmmakers wanna make sure the surviving character is "perfect" and that everyone would like them, but the they fail at it. If I ever get to make a horror film, the goody goody virgin character will be slaughtered first and the only survivor would be the sultty fun character. Edited by Raven, Sep 12 2013, 04:36 PM.

another reason I can think of is the general public seems to want "pure innocent" leads. I enjoy the good guy\girl being a little evil but a lot of people complain about this. not everyone likes Rob Zombie or Uwe Boll type characters as a dark hero |
