I think that may be true on surface value but I see a lot of differences in her character between 2 and 3. In season 2, she's far more trusting and still "adapting" to her leader-status, and her and her followers are struggling. and throughout the season while she's not only dealing with the death of Drogo and her stillborn baby, she has to cope with losing her dragons and does everything in her power to save them, even by means that aren't exactly safe (much like Cat is with her children) and she finally let's go of the death of Drogo & her baby (which was very strong imo. IDK if I could). And by the end of the season she has become far stronger, and a better leader after discovering Doreah betrayed her (as well as the king I can't remember his name?) In season 3 she seems far more intelligent in her leading and isn't really adapting to her leadership anymore. She does things she'd never do in Season 2 (Like pretend to give her dragon to that one man, coming up with the entire plan to attack him by herself, even going against people's advice). There wasn't that much coping in Season 2 (nor was there in Book 2) Maybe a few scenes, but she wasn't coping in the way that Catelyn did upon losing Ned. I do think she's gotten more intelligent and wise in her decisions as a leader, but she as a character still isn't growing a lot. We're basically watching her finetune her leadership abilities than actually GROW as a character. It's like saying Jon grew as a character because he became a better fighter. As for less trusting... Yeah, no. She still sucks with trusting the right people and trusts too easily. Took one life saving attempt from Barristan to trust him in show. She quickly leeched onto Daario despite the fact he comes off as a complete douchebag to literally EVERYONE else. So yeah, not gaining points there. I still like her and she is growing some as a war leader, but compared to the growing she did in Season 1 and that others are doing around her, she's pretty stagnant. No way has she grown in the ways Robb, Jaime, Arya, Sansa, or Theon have, for example. And we aren't gaining a deeper understanding of her like with Cersei, for example. She's just kinda... Showing up, being badass, then leaving. |

People deal with things differently, She doesn't have to be coping the same way Cat did to be coping. I mean just look at the House Of Undying scene. As for "fine-tuning" her Leadership abilities, it's much more then Jon getting better at fighting. Dany's growing as a person and maturing both as a person and in her decisions for leading, it's not simply "getting better" at something. Jon's didn't grow as a person in order to do so, while Dany did. And I meant she is far more cautious. She hardily "leached" onto Daario, it took a lot for her to end up trusting him. I don't really see how we aren't seeing a deeper understanding of her either, seeing Drogo in House Of Undying, her deep care for the suffering & wanting to free the enslaved, the way she's ruthless anyone that betrays her, etc. Edited by TheCheetahwings, Aug 13 2013, 01:43 AM.

You named literally the one scene in Season 2 addressing her grief. And the scene is flat out BUTCHERY of an amazing book scene. Not helping your case at all lol. Nothing good, literally nothing, came out of the joke that was the TV versipn's House of the Undying Ok, it's not THAT insignificant. But besides being a better leader, she's not significantly different. Same set of morals. Same character flaws. Same attitude. I like her bit being a better ruler isn't exactly making tons of progress. She isn't totally stagnant, obviously, but becoming a better leader isn't exactly huge character development or anything. Especially compared to the world around her, as I said. When Jaime's changing as a person, Theon is coming to realize the error of his ways and spiraling towards insanity, Arya is turning into a ruthless killer, Sansa is becoming adept at hiding her emotions and realizing how shitty her life is, Robb and Jon are growing into leadership positions, Cat is coping with Widowhood and the "loss" of her children, Melisandre's true motives are becoming more apparent, and Bran is turning into Jesus, becoming a better leader is surprisingly unimpressive. Yeah, except no. Lol. He kills a few guys and she trusts him wholeheartedly. Meanwhile the fanbase is screaming "HE'S A MASSIVR DOUCHEBAG!!!!!" Being ruthless to traitors was established in Season 1 via Mirri Maz Durr. Mentioning the House of the Undying hurts your argument more than it helps it. I actually find the slave thing a bit muddled compared to the book. It's the reason she's CONQUERING these cities in the first place and there's people out there (and not stupid ones) who aren't making the connection. They also cut out a big aspect of her that grows more in each book, her sense of entitlement. She also is getting less stable with each passing book, not so much with a show. |

Well I can't really judge in comparison to the book as I haven't read them yet, so this is just the impressions I got from watching the show (It's been months since I watched Season 1-2) she isn't the best character ever, and certainly not the best developed, as said she's just my favorite lol

I love her. It's so good to have such a strong female character in a tv show. Infact all the females in this have been excellent. Usually I find female characters are either sloppily written, freaking cry babies, neurotic or just flat out not likable. |

Well even NOT counting the books she's pretty much been stagnant the last 2 seasons. The fact she isn't in the books makes it even worse. I do like her a lot, I just think she could end up being handled a lot better and that the show is lacking in that area. |

Come to think of it I probably agree with Repo. ![]() I still LOVE her but she has been stagnant as previously said. I've always said/thought she's my favorite character but in no way the best written, (that'd probably go to Jaime). I still adore her though. I really wanna give the series a rewatch though so it may change in time. |

Me ! I love her progressive transformation. Plus she's really the most beautiful female character to me. |
