This is the true story of Oscar, a 22-year-old Bay Area resident who wakes up on the morning of December 31, 2008 and feels something in the air. Not sure what it is, he takes it as a sign to get a head start on his resolutions: being a better son to his mother, whose birthday falls on New Year's Eve, being a better partner to his girlfriend, who he hasn't been completely honest with as of late, and being a better father to T, their beautiful 4 year old daughter. He starts out well, but as the day goes on, he realizes that change is not going to come easy. He crosses paths with friends, family, and strangers, each exchange showing us that there is much more to Oscar than meets the eye. But it would be his final encounter of the day, with police officers at the Fruitvale BART station that would shake the Bay Area to its very core, and cause the entire nation to be witnesses to the story of Oscar Grant.

I'm seeing this tomorrow and I'm so stoked. It looks so raw. I can't wait.

This, to me, was one of the best movies of the year so far. It was fantastic.

This and the Place Beyond The Pines are my top two of the year so far. I'm sure that will change soon, but these movies are just so great.

Michael B. Jordan and Octavia Spencer's acting in this movie >>>>>>

This movie get's an A- for me....the minus is because it seems a little slow at first, but you realize everything is important. I loved it. OMG. I cant right now!

The awards hype seems to have randomly died down. Still want to see it, though. I liked MBJ in Chronicle and The Wire.

Jersey boy for life!
This should've been released a lot closer to Oscar season rather than in August, because it was one of the best movies of the year. I liked how it kept the incident in the background for 90% of the film, creating a constant note of subtext for what you know is coming; a lesser film (*cough*Crash*cough*) would've beaten you over the head with its message. Michael B. Jordan and Octavia Spencer, too, were amazing. And finally, the atmosphere felt like one of those classic crime dramas that brought inner-city '70s New York to life, only done with late '00s Oakland instead.
