So hello from the other side
I must've called a thousand times
To tell you I'm sorry, for everything that I've done
But when I call you never seem to be home

Just got to the Let It Go scene. I KNEW that was Elphaba from Wicked! I was instantly reminded of Defying Gravity. Love that song.

This is definitely one of the better Disney princess movies. Rare that a twist in a family movie catches me offguard.

As for Let It Go, fuck the Demi Lovato version! Idina Menzel forever.

I like both versions, but Idina's is way better.

Jersey boy for life!
Finally(!) wrote my full review. I spoil the whole film there, but I figure we've all seen the film by now so I'm not saying anything new.

Overall, it's not just a great Disney musical, it's a great big apology from Disney for indulging in a wildly unrealistic portrayal of "true love" for so long. The perfect antidote to Twilight, if you ask me.

I think it's getting kinda overrated in this department. You specifically target the 90s Disney films, and yet that entire decade was defined by apologizing for past Disney. Specifically Beauty and the Beast.

The whole point of the story is for Belle to fall in love with Beast gradually for who he is underneath, as obviously a hairy monster is not "love at first sight" material. It takes maybe weeks for their love to blossom. Rather than falling for the first dashing charmer she meets, Belle sees through Gaston and rejects him right away. And like Frozen's "love exists passed romance" message, Belle is willing to toss romance aside to help her father. The strength of family love is also what Mulan is about. A romance in that film is barely touched on.

-Unless you count having a sword fight and trying to murder each other, Esmeralda and Phoebes (Hunchback) also don't fall in love at first sight.
-Meg is actually working for the villain and using Hercules at first.
-Jasmine doesn't fall for Aladdin's prince stuff until she gets to know him as a person.
-The Lion King takes "not falling in love at first sight" the furthest by having Simba and Nala grow up with each other.
