While the two movies are undeniably similar, no one behind the film said this was a remake.

An American student studying in Australia mistakenly gets involved with a mysterious and unhinged girl while house-sitting for a rich family on vacation.

The plot isn't also identical, hence why it CAN'T be a remake.

And I did not use the poster for the 2009 film. This is the poster for the 2009 film:

The whole "Crush go mad" theme is similar, I'm guessing this is the Roommate to 2009's SWF.... You know that's the DVD cover? And you can clearly tell from the poster on the main page it's for that movie.

This is not a remake lol. If it was, the front cover for that DVD above would have Crystal Reed's name.

Forget about the bloody gods and lsiten to what I'm telling you
There's literally three of these movies with the exact same title and more or less the exact same plot. There's the Alicia Silverstone 90's one (oh, THE Crush, so different), the Aussie one (I believe it's Aussie) from the 2009, and now this one. Not seen any, but if I had to pick I'd probably lean towards the Alicia one because I love her and seeing her play a psycho would be fun (you also get ANOES3 Taryn and Tara from Buffy... and Cary Ewles, but let's focus on the positive!), though I could probably stomach this one because I like Lucas Till/Leigh Whannel. Think I'll avoid the Aussie one
