A Deep Darkness

Cassidy looks down at the chasm before her, suppressing a gulp. She's done some impressive shit in her time, but this might just take the cake. Still, her hesitation is only momentary as she jumps down, pulling out a wind gem as she does so. Channeling magical energy through the gemstone, she uses it's power to push her further than her jump could take her, landing her clear on the other side. That accomplished, she pushes on forward, when the floor suddenly turns slippery and she has to claw the ground in order to avoid an uncontrollable fall.

"Well darn. I think I almost broke a nail there." She says to herself sarcastically, before looking at the new obstacle. Seeing another pit, she looks up, and sees an old, broken-down scaffolding. "Well, sure was convenient of whoever lived down here to leave these up." With a kick, she pushes off, grabbing a hold of a pole jutting out from the wall, and pulls herself up. Ascending up the scaffolding, she quickly scampers across it, barely trusting the old material with her weight for a moment.

None of this was new to her, exploring ruins was an integral part of her life. Not quite as integral as sneaking around mansions, but both tended to put food on the table. Still, as she triggered a dart trap that was in her way, she wondered about just what was going to be down here. The rumors alone were tempting, but when it came from a more verified source..well, how could she refuse?

As she rounded the corner, she found herself in a large antechamber, with a giant, ceremonial stone door in front of her. She's seen several of them before in other relic boundaries, and typically it housed an item the gods themselves would view as a treasure behind them. Grinning, she looks around, trying to find what would likely serve as an opening mechanism in the chamber.

Tracing her hand over the side of the door, she feels some indentations. Looking at them from a distance, it's clear that there are things to be inserted in them in order to open them. "A key, huh? Well, that's inconvenient." When she looks at it from a greater distance, she sees that a map is overlaid in the world, and each indentation has been marked to a specific ruin. "Hah! I've been to all these places!" Looking inside her little utility belt, she tries to sort the gemstones to see which ones came from what. "Hrm....I got this wind gem from that ruin in Africa..." Placing the gem in the indentation, the stone glows bright. "Hah! I was right!" With that, she begins matching stones to slots, filling out all five. And with that, the stone door begins opening.

Her awe at the situation was so much that it took her a moment to go about retrieving her stones.

"Yeesh! You need to learn when to quit!"

Running through more falling debris, she reaches the chasm. Deciding that pissing around with weaker gems was probably going to get her killed, she pulls out a water gem, and connects the circuit just as she reaches the initial chasm. Running straight out into darkness, she creates a bridge of pure ice in front of her, making a walkway she could cross without resorting to jumping with wind. This choice saves her, as she sees the former bridge flying out at her.

"Holy shit!" she calls out, pulling a wind gem out once more, and pushes herself into the air, as the stone bridge smashes her ice one into smithereens. Using the water gem again, she creates a slide to take her the rest of the way.

"You really hold a grudge, you know that? You really should just calm down."

"I am perfectly calm." Perses stabbed a hand into the wall and swiped forward, sending a large chunk of the wall her way. Despite his claim, though, he felt desperation creeping in. She was close to escaping at this point. He leapt this chasm, barely clearing it, and as he landed, he punched the ground. A deep, wide crack lanced like a jagged bolt of lighting toward Cassidy.

"Eep!"

Cassidy kept running, but the fissure in the earth seemed to follow her as she ran, and despite her efforts to fill it with ice or leap over it with air, it caught up to her. That drop was convenient, though, as it ducked her under the airborne wall that was thrown her way. Jumping out of the crevice, she kept running, light at the end of the tunnel teasing her with it's presence. She was almost out...she almost made her escape.

Turning back around, she grins. "Have some of this, ugly! Let's see how you like it!" With that, she shoots off her fire gem into the cave roof, causing a collapse behind her. She figured that giant would dig through it eventually...but she should have a few good minutes to effect her escape.

Perses snarled. How dare she use the crystals in such a way. In mid-charge, he reared a fist back and threw a lunging into the first vestiges of the collapse, launching several chunks of rock after Cassidy. A second punch with his other arm sent another, smaller scatter her way, but that was it. The giant collapsed under the weight of falling debris. In short time, he would not doubt dig himself out. But for now, he was incapacitated.

"Hah! Suck on that, you big dumb rock!"

With that, she runs as fast as she can out of the underground of Reliquus, getting back into the outskirts of the city. That bastard was liable to follow her, but up here, it was the city guard's problem, not hers. Besides, she had an appointment with a certain doctor...and when she was through, he was the one that was going to need medical attention.
