The light bustle, the line of makeshift stands that could be torn down for transport at a moment's notice, the dark, out of the way alleys that were occupied... All was far too familiar to Albrecht Mannock. He knew, as an officially sanctioned airship pilot and innovator, he should never be stepping foot in the black market. But screw that. He had needs, too. Needs that couldn't met in a legal setting. If there was anything to damn Dr. Levy for, it was that. So, here he was, strolling through all manner of illegal wares, looking for whatever he could find to bolster his capabilities. As he walked, something caught his eye. An old machine that looked like a rotary device, a few crystals, a couple blades... Looked perfect. He walked up to the wares for a closer look. |

The stand appeared vacant, its owner nowhere in sight. Then, a voice came from behind Mannock - low and rumbling, it was just loud enough to be heard over the din of the alley. "Y'all'd best be watchin' behind ya, if'n ya want ta leave th' alleys with yer neck."

"Oh no, I'm fine." With a schink, a trio of thin blades extended from between Mannock's knuckles. "Trust me on that." The blade retracted, and he turned to tall man towering over him. The edge of his lips quirked into a light scowl. "You're the proprietor, or just some hoodlum looking to separate me from my money? Not that there's much difference between the two in a place like this, mind you." |

A lopsided smirk crossed the tall man's face - lopsided due to the scar that ran down his right cheek and almost to his mouth. Pale, yellow-brown eyes evaluated the cyborg, noting the blades. "Well, ain't that clever. Handy thing to have with ya, yeah?" The man was dressed in a vaguely paramilitary get-up: tan jacket and pants - the jacket unbuttoned to show a white t-shirt underneath - tan combat boots, and a brown canvas web belt. Said belt was fastened at a slight angle by a buckle emblazoned with a stylized wolf's head. A glance at the man's right hip would reveal why the belt was crooked: a tan leather holster hung from it, which held a fairly sizable handgun. The holster's flap was unbuttoned, and the man's hand sat lightly on the hip behind it. Nodding to himself, the smirk grew wider. Gesturing to the stand, he said, "I ain't no two-bit thief, ya see. Y'all might want ta be careful who yer callin' a hood - I'm an honest businessman." He chuckled. "Only reason I'm here at all is 'cause I just had a falling-out with my distributor." "Oh, very handy. Amazing how many thieves wanna pickpocket the small guy." Mannock cast a sidelong glance back with a smirk. "Falling-out, huh? Can't imagine why." He picked up one of the gems and inspected it. "So, you got any idea what any of this stuff does?" |

The gemstone seemed to vanish as Micah snatched it from Mannock's hand, having closed the distance between them faster than most could track. He then stepped around the side of the table, saying, "I'd rather you not be playin' with things what could blow yer head clean off, Mac." Setting the stone down behind the other merchandise, he turned to Mannock and nodded. "To answer yer question, yeah. I might know a bit about this. Been in the business for nearly eleven years now, I ought to." He grinned, the yellowed grin of someone that sustains themselves mainly on coffee. In the faded light behind his table, the shadows momentarily made his canines seem unusually long and sharp. "That said, in my line o' work, information does mean money. Y'all willin' ta pay?" |

"Sorry, sorry, bad habits." Mannock raises his hands in a defensive posture. "And yeah, I'm all willing to pay. How's a direct feed from an officially sanctioned airship pilot sound?" |

One eyebrow went up, and Micah gave him an appraising look. "An' how do I know you won't just take your 'official sanction' and drag me down to the local constable? Ain't often a respectable pilot is willin' ta risk his career buyin' from the likes of me. Yer either desperate or it's a trap, and I can't risk the latter." His hand had strayed down to his holster again, this time actually resting on the flap. Almost growling now, he asked, "Y'all best be talkin', Mac. Convince me yer not just some cop lookin' ta lock me up, huh?" |

"Desperate's the answer, 'Mac'." Again, Mannock flashes his knuckle blades. "See this? Hardly a legal thing to have in my body. Makes getting through airport security a bitch, too. But anyways, yeah. Going to the legal market's basically asking to be arrested, violated in the name of inspection, and chucked into the hoosegow. I mean, better than the alternative would've been, but only marginally. And before you ask, no, I didn't choose this." |

Micah snorted. "Don't mean a thing ta me, Mac. Y'all work for the government - they're sure ta give ya dispensation for a little thing like that." He seated himself on a beat-up little stool next to the table. As the wood complained at the sudden weight, Micah shrugged. Leaning forward, he smiled conspiratorially, the light playing its trick on his teeth again. "But now, just say I believe ya for a moment. What sort of information might an airship pilot be seekin' ta get from a shady ol' relic dealer? Or would he be lookin' for somethin' a bit more durable?" Edited by vicroc4, Feb 22 2014, 05:33 AM.
