Blinding sunlight beats down as the thin door to an old Eastern style building opens. The bitter scents of medicinal herbs waft out to meet the brightness, so people both inside and out would have at least one of their senses offended. Covering her eyes to ward off the sunlight, a woman steps out from the small hospital, and immediately every male gaze in the vicinity is on her for her highly revealing purple shirt and jacket, only covering down just below her chest. Not that her multi-part kilt with the front cloth removed is any better.

No one could have guessed that Relia Tepes, who dared bare so much skin in the heat of the midday sun, is a vampire, the daughter of the infamous Count Dracula.

After a brief stretch, she starts across the street towards a nearby lunch stand.

Relia nods, a hand on her chin. "Yes, I am. He seems to be using knowledge from before the Deicide; knowledge that should not exist now. His inventions stretch beyond what humanity should be capable of."

Had her eyebrows not still been up, Gabrielle would have raised them again. At it is, she refrained, lest they vanish into her hairline.

"That's a fuck of an accusation about some great humanitarian asshole. What do you mean by it?" she asked, now just genuinely curious.

"Like I said, I don't know shit about the guy or what he does, but I'm guessing that if he's such a big deal, I've probably run into some of his stuff without knowing it. So what's so odd about it? Is it like... us having things that would be like folks in the Bronze Age having steam power or something?"

Relia cocks an eyebrow. "You don't pay much attention to the political matters of the cit, do you? I find it impossible for anyone who does to have not at least heard his name."

"Anyways..." Relia leans back against a wall, collecting herself. "415 years ago, human civilization was essentially destroyed. Yet, here we stand now, mere centuries after that calamity, at our greatest technological height. Most of it came in the last 20 or so years, as well. Humanity has skipped from the Stone Age to the Nuclear Age in a matter of 200 years... and every bit, from the surgical techniques to the airships, has come from Dr. Levy, utilizing and advancing technology from before the Deicide."

There was a brief spark of recognition in Gabrielle's eyes.

"Oh, the airship fucker! Shit, I just thought that was a pun on levitating or something! Guess you learn something new every day."

She stuck her hands into her pockets for want of something to do with them.

"So what you're saying is that he's some kind of pre-Deicide tech wunderkind, but to the point of stretching credibility. At least with anyone not totally wowed and grateful for how helpful he is, but no one has a reason not to be."

She thought about it.

"Yeah, I can see that shit being suspicious as fuck. Nothing that wouldn't be laughed out of a trial, but worthy of investigation."

"Yes, the airship... person." Relia winces at Gabrielle's choice of language, but decides to let it slide. "And that's exactly it, on all counts. I suppose it would be too much to hope for you to know a way to meet him?"

Gabrielle looked down at herself. A torn up t-shirt, jeans speckled with blood, and boots held together with steel toes and dreams. She looked at Relia.

"I break monster teeth for a living. Do I look like a girl with a way to meet some fancy guy like that?"

She shrugged.

"I'm sorry I can't be of help, but if I find a way, I'll tell you."

She looked around the room, then back at the vampire. "I don't like what you are. But if some asshole is taking advantage of folks that trust him, or fucking worse than that, then he's a far bigger cunt than a vampire that doesn't attack on sight."

Relia gives a dry chuckle. "Very few like what I am, and I'd prefer to keep it to very few who know. But thanks, Miss Viaris. I likewise will let you know if I learn anything more about Levy."

"...wait, are we suddenly partners in this or something?" Gabrielle asked, sounding surprised. It hadn't exactly been what she'd meant by 'I'll tell you', but... well, fuck. Hung for the sheep as well as the lamb.

"Is he a mage type? They sometimes get bounty hunters to gather supplies for them. Stuff too dangerous for them to chase, like basilisk venom and chimera tails and that. I could look around, see if he or folks working near him are putting up contracts like that."
