Horus yawns and does his best not to lean against a wall and pause his patrol. 8 in the morning, after a day like yesterday? ...Okay, so 8 wasn't really that unusual, and yesterday was all on him, but still. He is exhausted. So, probably not in good condition to be actually guarding anything. But hey, he had to do it. Time to stop mentally complaining about it and patrol. And probably hope nothing eventful happens.

Kursten walks down the street. He's had a lot to think about...he made a friend, he thinks, and a friend that was very much a lead to making a name for himself as a mage. While he still felt that working on the grimoire was the priority, due to needing to defend himself and his family, the pyrokinetic powers Destiny had showed him were fresh on his mind. But he had a day off, and Destiny did not, so he was left to wait, and he decided to take a walk.

Hopefully he wouldn't get hit by a car again.

As he checks out the sights of this district of Reliquus, he sees a guardsman in obviously less than stellar shape. Walking up to him, he tilts his head. "Excuse me, sir...you don't look so hot. Is there something I could get you, like some food or coffee or something?" He couldn't do all that much in his current situation, but he couldn't just leave the guy there like that, it was clear he looked half dead. And he really could know how that would feel.

"Huh?" Horus turns and blinks deadened eyes at the newcomer. In his tiredness, he barely notes Kursten's unkempt, patchwork appearance. "Oh, uh. No, thanks. I'll be fine."

A moment later, he sighs. "...Well, unless you could somehow send me back to yesterday. Would love to have a chance to not screw up again."

Kursten frowns. "Sorry, I don't think I can. Or at least, I haven't looked hard enough to see if I can." The kinds of crazy things the book could do wouldn't surprise him, but he still doubted it. "Did something bad happen yesterday? I don't mean to pry, though...I guess I could just go..."

"Screwed up a date. Badly. Never listening to the other guardsmen's advice again." Horus runs a palm down his face. "...Guh. I shouldn't be like this. You, uh, got the time or anything?"

Kursten nods. He hasn't had any real experience in that area, but he's had some social training, all magus families with any pretension of nobility have. "Sorry to hear that. What kind of advice was it?"

When asked for the time, he checks his watch. "Uhh...it's almost nine. Is there somewhere you have to be?"

Horus closes his eyes and breathes in a deep breath. "Don't take no for an answer, because she'd just be playing hard to get, and come off as less intelligent than her to make her feel smart. And I actually was stupid enough to follow it."

When given the time, Horus shakes his head. "Thanks. Was hoping it was closer to noon so I could excuse myself for lunch. A little too early, though, and that offer of coffee sounds real good about now."

Kursten winces. That advice was almost funny in how completely horrible it was. He didn't want to think poorly of the guard, but who could take such a tip as genuine? "Yeah. That's probably not the best way to put your best foot forward...I'm sure you'll do better next time, though!" Pondering a bit, he poses a question. "Did you do anything recently to upset the man who gave you that advice? It's possible he set you up to fail on purpose."

Nodding, the young mage brightens. "Sure, sounds good. If you want, I can pick one up for you now, there's a cafe around here that has some nice stuff."

"Not that I know of." Horus shrugged, before grumbling. "...Jackass could've just been seeing a hazing opportunity, I guess. Wouldn't put it past some of the more experienced guys."

At Kursten's offer, Horus brightens up. "Wait, you'd do that? Awesome! Um..."

He digs into a pocket and hands Kursten some money. "Feel free to keep whatever you don't use."

Kursten nods. "I was on the butt end of those in my time in the academy. Luckily, I didn't stay too long, or I'm sure it would only have gotten worse." He was sympathetic for the guardsman, even if he did think he was a bit of an idiot. It takes all kinds, after all.

When he gives him some money, Kursten beams in return. "Sure, I'll be right back. Try not to move too far, yeah?" He thought he would need to spend his own money for the act of random kindness, but for this, it was a no brainer. "Don't worry about it, today's my off day and I'm not doing anything more important. Hope you feel better soon!"

With that, he runs off, hoping the line at the cafe isn't too long.
