Sparring.

A weekly event for the guardsmen of Reliquus, designed to keep them sharp even after graduating from training. Of course, most it a pain in the ass, and Horus was no exception. He grumbles as he steps down the stairs into a small arena. Whatever. Get this over with, and hope he's not too outclassed like the last time he did this.

Horus sidesteps the lunge, before catching the slash with the shaft of his spear. He allows himself a smirk as he steps forward, driving Seraph back. He turns the spear around, fully driving the sword aside in the process, and attempts to strike with the weapon's back end.

Faster than she had thought anyway! Looks like the wiry thing was working out for him at least. She didn't dodge the jab with the butt of the spear, but she did manage to block it with the vambrace on her right arm, and grinned as the blow connected before the full brunt of it was pushed to the side. Stronger than she'd thought, too! Awesome!

"Not bad, Yellow!" she said, moving back again, and shifting into a more defensive stance. Time to see if he would take the offensive proper this turn.

"Not bad yourself; most swordsmen I spar against get caught blind by that." Smirking, Horus lunges in to press his advantage. He twists his body to the side as he once more strikes with the butt off the spear, the weapon held so that its shaft protects his upper body.

Gabrielle was suited more for parrying than she was dodging. She was built bigger than she was fast, and not only did it keep her opponents with striking range, but it was really annoying for them to just almost strike true and be thwarted at the last second by the timely intervention of her sword or vambrace.

So parrying was the order the day for Horus' little assault, and while a few did get through (and they fucking stung - what was that thing made of), enough ended up deflected that she felt she looked fucking competent. Seriously though, ow.

It was after a particularly painful jab to the shoulder that got a sharp hiss and a wince out of her that she decided it was time to go back on the offense. It suited her better anyway.

So next time he went in with a strike (and it would have been a good one too, would have hurt like a bitch if she hadn't been ready to switch up a bit), she did dodge, just a little twist and sidestep, and that put her right in place to...

She caught the shaft of the spear before he could pull back, and tugged, hard. And as Horus was being yanked forward, she kicked him sharply in the gut.

With a grunt, Horus doubles over as the air is kicked out of him. Through a growl, he swipes an arm at her sword hand, trying to preempt any attack she may have in mind. "Yep. You're quite good."

Light glows in the spear, but he doesn't want to have to use that yet. So instead, he puts all strength into a surging yank, trying to pull the spear free.
