Relia Tepes' eyes opened and she stared up at the ceiling for a moment before checking the time. 5am. Good, she'd managed to get in 2 hours of sleep. More than enough of a power nap in order to recharge from last night's archive binge. Still no further on the cure...but last night had been more about re-reading her old notes for the purpose of revision rather than actively seeking answers. She was close, she could feel it. It was on the very edge of her grasp and yet...it evaded her.

With a sigh, the vampiress rose, elegant as always, to freshen herself up and get ready for the day ahead. Sometimes she hated the sunrise, but today, she just needed to take her mind off of things. She'd had more memories in her dreams again. And they wouldn't have wanted her hung up on the past.

Opening up the herb store, Relia had decided long ago when she had settled here, was quite possibly one of the few remaining ways she was staying sane. The routine and sheer amount of steps needed to ensure opening at the right time kept her mind from focusing on depressing thoughts that may linger whenever she had been sleeping for too long. It wasn't as easy as unlocking the door and saying welcome in. She needed to check the till point and doors for any attempted burglaries, make sure her stock was all up to date, feed herself from her fresh supplies of blood packets and all sorts of other pleasantries. But soon, all routines come to an end and after she put out the sandwich board advertising her products, she sat back inside with a sigh, opened up a nearby medical textbook and got to revising.

Helped to revise even if you had 4 PhD's.

As far as Destiny was concerned, most alternative medicine was nothing but quackery and snake oil. After all, if it worked, it'd simply be called 'medicine'. But several of her patients had expressed an interest in having more 'holistic' treatments alongside the conventional ones she'd prescribe, and while she was willing to go along with that for their sake, Destiny would eat her certifications before she'd recommend anything that didn't do something.

With that in mind, she'd picked a suitable shop to look over, to see if she could recommend it in good faith (not a chain of course) She'd given herself an hour and half for this. An hour to scout the location, and half an hour to get to the hospital for her morning to day shift.

So it was that Destiny made her way into the bitter herb and spice smelling shop, an extra large coffee in one hand and a sparkly blue notebook with attached fluffy pen in the other. She had her normal satchel and bright red first aid satchel (because you never know who may need it) around one shoulder, her blond bob in a stubby ponytail and her usual piercings removed from her ears, leaving just small but evident holes.

She began to looking through the various shelves, sipping from the coffee as she read through different labels and tags. Sweet wormwood, willow bark... sensible choices. They did have medicinal properties, and the latter was even the precursor to conventional aspirin. So... not completely quacky, yet.

Before the woman entered, Relia was already looking up, putting her research book underneath the table. She could hear the heartbeat coming towards the shop. A strong heartbeat, suggesting an almost hyperactive personality though there was a quiver here and there. Well then, this would be fun.

As the woman entered, Relia made sure to take a breath or two before smiling and going around to meet her. She appeared to be reading the labels and tags of each items. How odd, it was almost as if...

And then she saw the satchel. Ahhh, so that was it.

"I'm sorry." Relia greeted the woman. "Unfortunately, all the medicines and herbs I stock have been scientifically proven to work. I don't like to scam people with roots with unpronounceable names."

She chuckled a little at her own joke, before extended a hand with a pleasant smile.

"Relia Glass." The woman smoothly lied about her last name. "A pleasure to meet you. Need any help?"

Destiny had been engrossed in reading the ingredient on the back of one jar. When Relia addressed her, she jumped and almost dropped it. She scrambled with one hand, just barely grabbing it and returning it to the proper shelf with a sheepish look on her face.

"I didn't think you were a snake oil salesman or something!" Destiny lied quickly. She rubbed her free hand on the front of her white coat (for once not her labcoat) and held it out to Relia.

"Destiny Emeralt." she said, smiling brightly. "Though I'm here as Doctor Spencer, actually."

She held up her satchel as evidence of her title.

"A few of my patients have expressed interest in alternative medicine, especially those allergic to some of the filler ingredients in the conventional stuff, so I thought I'd check around, and see what could be recommended with a safe conscience."

Relia raised an eyebrow as the doctor scrambled to catch the jar she almost dropped. Though, she still kept the smile up. It wasn't her fault and it was fairly adorable the way she looked so sheepish.

Still, as she shook Relia's hand, the vampiress' hand would feel cold and clammy, corpse like. Relia would blink at her name.

"With a name like that, one might think you would be on the fast track to the ranks of the Church of the Unbroken Chain." she made the joke, she had to. "Though, of course, Dr Spencer. I can understand the need for discretion some times."

Listening as the doctor outlined her reasoning, Relia had to blink slightly.

"...you would have me as an alternative pharmacy? Are you actually allowed to do that? thought there had to be quite a bit of legislation with that."

In contrast, Destiny's hand was uncomfortably hot, as if she was running a constant fever, but without any flushing or any other symptoms of it.

"Funnily enough, I don't believe in fate, so I don't think I'd get very far." Destiny said cheerfully. "I think it's an outdated and fraudulent concept that does nothing but to undermine the accomplishments and heroic actions of good people, as well as their importance! And this isn't an attempt to be discreet or anything, I have no reason for that, but the clinic is Spencer-Sutherland on account of my biological dad being Spencer, and it's way more professional than Emeralt which just sounds made up and would you believe it actually was?"

She took a breath and beamed.

"Oh, there's going to be! That's why I'm looking at places first! I don't want to go through miles of paperwork just to then have to spend ages trying to find an appropriate place, especially since that kind of paperwork tend to be on a tight deadline! It is allowed though, with certain restrictions, if it's what is best for the health of the patient. Would you force someone to take medicine that cures one ailment just to give them another?"

Relia grinned as Destiny gave her outlook on...well...destiny.

"Well said," she complimented, "If a little long winded, but we got there in the end."

Truth be told, the jovialness of this doctor was infectious. She alreaady felt a lot better, despite this woman probably being a hundredth her age.

"Better to choose your own name and be proud of it, than be stuck with one you feel is too unsuitabe for yourself." she nodded, then tilted her head slightly as Destiny outlined her plan.

"To the best of my ability, I would try to avoid that." Relia answered her. "I mean, if I could prevent the flu by giving someone a slightly dicky tummy for a few hours, I would consider that a fair trade, but at the end of it all, it's the patient's decision. All you or I can do is advise them on all the benefits and costs to each treatment."

"I do like my name though, even if it is silly, but I do want to be professional. Did you choose your own name then, so Glass is one you picked instead of being your real one? Do people compare you to jugs and cups and bowls a lot because of it? Or window-cleaner jokes? I get a lot of fate jokes, and I mean a lot, you wouldn’t even believe how many, most of them from my family too!”

Destiny beamed, apparently not breathless after this little.... well, rant wasn’t really the right word, nor was tirade, but it had all the energy of either of those.

"Well, I'm talking less 'dicky tummies' and more anaphylaxis.” She clarified. “Several of the medications I would prescribe cause an allergic reaction in some of my patients, ranging from moderate to severe. So that’s a pretty serious issue, considering that it could well kill them. Frankly, I’m not sure that a more, um... holistic remedy will be as effective as standard pharmaceuticals, but if it helps, it helps!”
