As she comes to a stop outside of a white terraced house, Aurora draws out a letter once more and checks it. Correct address, and the description matches; this had to be the right place. She straightens wavy black hair out of her face and tightens a clasp that holds her shawl in place over her shoulders. Alright then. Hopefully Kursten has already arrived.

She steps up along the stone path to the door, and gives three sharp raps.

There was a few seconds of silence, a thumping sound, and then the door was opened by Destiny who was rubbing her arm and trying to smile and make faces at the same time.

She had her labcoat on, of course, pristine as always. Well, okay, it wasn't pristine when she was working, usually it was kind of super messy then, but still. Under that was a modest blue dress, patterned tights, and flat shoes, which were all part of the imaginatively titled 'Looking Professional And Not Embarrassing New Friend' Initiative. She hadn't tried to hide the painful looking fissures on her arms though; Aurora would see them sooner later anyway.

"Hi! Ow!" she greeted, holding out her hand to Aurora, "You must be Aurora, right? Nice to meet you, I'm Destiny! I like your shawl. Do you want to come inside or do you like it outside? We could always bring a chair out if you want to stay outside, it is a really good day. Is Kursten with you?"

She peered around Aurora, then laughed. "Stupid question, I'd be able to see him if he was!"

This was not the way Kursten had hoped today would have gone. Running as fast as he could down the street to try to meet up with Destiny before Aurora gets there, he only has a vague feeling telling him that he's going the right way as he focuses all the energy he could muster. It wasn't helping that he was going through one of his frustratingly common colds today, it was tough keeping his pace when he had to sneeze every fifteen seconds or so.

As he turns a corner onto Destiny's street, he huffs and puffs as he catches his breath. Looking over at Destiny's place, he sees someone at the door, and as he moves closer, it's clearly Aurora.

"Hey!" he calls, waving his hands to try and get their attention. He's too exhausted to run the rest of the way, so he walks at a somewhat brisk pace. When he gets closer, he continues. "Sorry, got held up at the library. Someone's kid threw up on the carpet and I was told to stay and clean....you probably don't care about that. My bad."

Shaking his head, he gathers himself a bit. "So, I see you were getting acquainted! If you want, we could go over the papers now, or you could get a practical demonstration first. Either way works with me!"

"Ah... yes, yes that's right. It's a pleasure to meet you." It takes Aurora a moment to find her composure; she had not expected such a torrent of questions and enthusiasm from the outset. Still, she shakes the girl's hand, letting a light giggle slip through. "I'd prefer to come inside, if that's fine. And, no Kursten's not--"

And just as she starts saying Kursten's not with her yet, she hears his voice, and she turns to wave at him. "...I guess I stand corrected. And I figure it would be proper to go over the papers first."

Destiny brightened up when she saw Kursten, if such a thing was even possible, and she hugged him as soon as he reached the end of the garden. She squeezed tightly for a second then let go and looked around at the two of them, beaming.

"Into the kitchen then? It's got a table that's more comfortable to sit at than the coffee table in the sitting room, so I think it's a better choice. Also, better lighting, and food! Unless that would give you bad associations right now, Kursten, but I hope it doesn't because it's bolognese and it smells really good!"

Kursten nods at Aurora...for all of a second before Destiny starts squeezing the life out of him. "Can't...breathe..."

When she lets go of him, he gasps in air. "Inside...inside sounds good. We can go over the papers in there."

At the mention of food, Kursten's eyes light up, but then they slide down. "How much did you guys make? You sure there's going to be enough?" He was really hungry, but he knows how much he eats when he was hungry. Then again...it's been a while since he used the book, so he -might- be able to get away with it...

Shaking his head, he walks inside. "Well...in any case, let's get started. So where to begin...that's a silly question, an explanation is probably in order...."

Aurora's eyes light up at the mention of food, but she only nods, although once more she can't hold in laughter at Destiny's exuberance. "Yes, the kitchen sounds great."

As she falls into behind them, she thinks for a moment. "And yes, please do explain. Your letter didn't really tell me that much."

"Don't worry, I made extra since I knew you were coming over! And you too, Aurora!" Destiny said cheerily, looking over to the other girl. "I actually don't know what's in the letter either. I mean, I'm guessing it says something about my fire, and what you've-" she looked up at Kursten again "-written about it, but I could be totally wrong. Either way, let's go find out!"

She led them into the house, through the pot-pourri scented hallway and into the small kitchen. It was decorated in earthy browns and warm yellows, and there were terracotta pots of utensils cluttering the countertops. The fridge door had been colonised by magnets and family photos, and a big pot of fake flowers was perched on top of the fridge itself. A big pot of red, meaty sauce was simmering on the hob, loaded with vegetables, mince, and chopped bacon. Next to it was another pot just full of bubbling water. Destiny opened a cupboard and took out two packets of spaghetti.

"I didn't want to put on the spaghetti until you got here," she explained, "since it'd just get icky and pulpy if it was left too long. So we can talk about stuff, and have it to look forward to partway through, like a reward!"

Kursten's mouth absolutely waters as the smell of the sauce reaches him. "I've been away too long..." he murmurs to himself, before returning to the task at hand. "Yeah, sorry about the abrupt letter, I probably should've given you more to go on. But this is really big. Really big."

Kursten sits himself down at the table, and pulls a brown envelope from his bag. "Okay, let's start with the basics. Magic, as much as we know about it, is based around the crystal shards left to humanity after the Gods left. Manipulating the nigh-inexhaustible energy inside of them, drawing power from them and directing it how we wish, is what makes mages unique from ordinary people."

This was basic, it was what he was taught growing up, and he assumed it'd be the same in the Academy. The literature he's read so far didn't contradict it, at least. "Now, what if I was to tell you that there was an alternate source of energy that could be drawn on...-has- been drawn on, and to the best of my research, has gone completely unnoticed by modern society? What if I were to tell you that there was a whole family of pyromancers, able to bend and shape plasma how they wanted it...all without the use of a crystal?"

Pulling a notebook out of the envelope, he flips a few pieces of paper out, and hands it to Aurora. "Well...yeah. That's the case. And Destiny here is one of them."

"Wait..." Aurora stops trying to steal a glance at the food and turns back around. Hands in lap, back straight. Perfect posture, no sign of distraction, don't let food derail her thoughts again. "Without a crystal? That's... I mean... yes, that would be huge if that's the case. Hmm..."

Aurora's gaze falls upon Destiny's arms and she winces; those cracks in her arms can't feel good. "If you don't mind me asking, do those... um, fissures have something related to it?"
