"Permission granted, but don't stick too close. Bit of range on this thing."

With a loud rumble, the train at last pulls up, its doors sliding open. Hierakos nudges her and nods. "Right, let's go. Third circle, right?"

Gabrielle edged away from the nudge and walked to the train quickly.

"Yep, third circle," she said. She stepped in, then held the door in case it tried to close on him. "Small house, but big basement. I had a look around myself, they thought I was a cultist."

Her mouth tightened. "Didn't feel like passing the initiation so... you."

Hierakos nods his thanks as he steps inside, before gesturing her to find a seat. "Sounds about right. Of course, the Guard can't just search every house we think might house a cult. PR nightmare right there."

He forces a sigh with a lopsided grin. "Alright, will deal with that bit when it comes to it."

"Isn't it weird that the Guard can't do that though?" Gabrielle asked, taking the seat closest to the door. "Just y'know, searches and stuff, I mean. Isn't it weird that people are so worried about stepping on some smarmy twat's toe that they actually can't hunt the guilty because said twat'll clutch their pearls and huff at them?"

She shrugged then rested into the seat, tilting her head back to look at the ceiling.

"Sorry, just getting phillysopical on you there. Or whatever the word is. Whatever, fuck the system and all that."

"Yeah, that'd be great. Until some assholes started abusing the power to do that. And believe me, there are plenty of bastards in the Guard that would pull that shit. About the only thing that keeps some of them in line is that the Captains would absolutely wreck anyone that tried anything." Hierakos stretches with a deep yawn. "Man, it's been a long day."

"You've got a good view of your up-tops," Gabrielle said dryly, stretching as well now that seeing him do it had given her the need to. "Guessing I'm not the only thing wrecking your balls today today though, huh? Want me to pretend to listen to your problems?" She grinned at him. "You're nice, so I'll make it convincing."

Hierakos shrugs and waves her off. "Eh, it's nothing much. Just been running around for anything on this cult for a couple days now. Not exactly my idea of fun, just looking for a lead."

He smirks at her. "But hey. Seems I found a gold mine with you."

"As long as we make good on this, at least," she said, slumping in her seat.

"How do you want to approach this anyway? Me taking front, you going in the back? Or a tag team?"

"Hmm..." Hierakos closes his eyes and reaches up to stroke Perry's head. "So, we're talking about a small house with a large basement, right? Any chance you remember how it's laid out at all? Including if there are any other houses nearby; Guard really doesn't need to take shit for whatever collateral damage might come of this."

"No neighbours," Gabrielle said, sitting forward and resting her elbows on her knees. "They like being lonely bastards for obvious reasons. When I went in, I got shoved right into the sitting room, but there was a trapdoor in the front hallway, the most suspicious fucking stains ever leading to it. They'd tried to scrub out the blood but it's got that smell that sticks, you know? Kicks you right in the nose, right over everything, which is fucking amazing because the rest of the place smelt like mint and methanol, like they were rubbing it into the fucking walls when they're not robbing graves. Methanol's this poison alcohol stuff, you can make embalming fluid out of it."

She wrinkled her nose. "I think they were trying to cover up the smell of the stuff with the mint and just made it worse. As for what else was there, I wasn't allowed go anywhere else in the house, but when I checked out around outside, it looked like there's one of those root cellars, y'know? It was all chained up, but might be its own thing, or a backdoor into their oh-so-precious basement of fuckery. That enough info to go on?"
