#3 Minnesota 13-9 vs #6 St. Louis 11-11 Season Series: St. Louis 2-1 Week 2 St. Louis 98-95 Minnesota Week 10 Minnesota 106-88 St. Louis Week 18 St. Louis 93-68 Minnesota Average Scoring Minnesota 91.22 St. Louis 83.87 Leading Scorers by position Minnesota John Tavares 139.48 Fantasy Points Niklas Kronwall 94.02 Fantasy Points Jonathan Bernier 110.5 Fantasy Point St. Louis Ryan Getzlaf 131.37 Fantasy Points P.K. Subban 122 Fantasy Points Craig Anderson 94 Fantasy Points Forwards: Where as most teams in the league have a great top 3, Minnesota boasts a great top 6. We would all like to have a Tavares, Voracek, Couture, Sedin, Hudler, and van Riemsdyk. That doesn't include the injured Evander Kane. St. Louis counters with their own dynamic duo in Ryan Getzlaf and Ryan Johansen. Edge: Minnesota Defense: We can't talk about defenseman in the DOFHL without talking P.K. Subban who along with Justin Faulk both have over 110 points from the blueline. The Wild have a hard hitting top pair in Niklas Kronwall and Dion Phaneuf who also chip in their fair share of offense. Edge: St. Louis Goaltending: Really don't know what we are going to get here, for the Wild all three of their netminders have been up and down Bernier, Anton Khudobin, and Eddie Lack, we don't know how many starts they will get. As for the Blues, Craig Anderson is back from injury but can he steal the net back from the "Hamburglar"! Jhonas Enroth could provide some valuable points. Edge: Minnesota Conclusion: Both teams come in hot in fact Minnesota's last loss was to you guessed it: St. Louis. Looks pretty even to me, Minnesota has offensive depth while St. Louis uses both offense and defense to put points up. I think Minnesota comes away with a victory in a high scoring matchup. #4 Phoenix 12-10 vs #5 Dallas 12-10 Season Series: Phoenix 1-0 Week 20 Phoenix 98-88 Dallas Average Scoring: Phoenix 81.43 Dallas 80.48 Leading Scorers by position: Phoenix: Claude Giroux 124.41 Fantasy Points Victor Hedman 86.43 Fantasy Points Ben Bishop 140.5 Fantasy Points Dallas: Jamie Benn 123.25 Fantasy Points Keith Yandle 100.41 Fantasy Points Frederik Andersen 135 Fantasy Points Forwards: As always when we talk Coyotes, we talk about Claude Giroux he far and away leads his team in points, he is joined on the first line by David Perron and Tyler Toffoli who will have to step up for a Cup repeat. Dallas has a great top 3 also in Jamie Benn, Andrew Ladd, and Nikita Kucherov each with over 100 points. Another star for Dallas is injured in Taylor Hall. Wow what a tough one to pick, I would say "push" but that isn't why I get paid the small bucks. Edge: Dallas Defense: Keith Yandle has been a "star" for the Stars going over the 100 point mark. His partner Ryan Suter barely comes off the ice. The Coyotes have the other half of the Conn Smythe(with Giroux) manning their blueline. Karl Alzner has taken over admirably for the injured Kevin Bieksa. Edge: Dallas Goaltending: What a matchup this will be! Two three headed monsters in goal going at it. Phoenix is the place for goaltending magic, they trade away Craig Anderson and have Devan Dubyk put up 137 points, he is pretty much unbeatable! Bishop, Dubnyk, and Bobrovsky against Dallas's young guns. Frederik Andersen, Michael Hutchinson, and Jake Allen have taken turns throughout the year being the guy in Dallas. Edge: Phoenix Conclusion: This is a tough one to call, I really think goaltending will decide this matchup. Actually it could come down to starting the right two and leaving the right guy on the bench. This will be very interesting to watch if upstart Dallas can knock off the Cup champs. I will say no, I will take Phoenix to advance in a high scoring matchup. |
