- 2012 NGFHL (DOFHL Version 1.0) This DieHards Only League really began with the NGFHL in 2011-2012. That league gave us the building blocks to create something better here and also attract more like-minded GMs (Diehards!). Therefore, it is only fair to celebrate that first season and give respect to the winner of the NGFHL Cup: Max Dovgan. Max is our only GM from Ukraine (which happens to also be where I was born). Despite the time difference and having a family, he did an amazing job in the NGFHL! As Detroit (shocking), he made it all the way to the NGFHL Finals against Ottawa. I clearly remember what happened next. On Friday, with just 3 scoring days left, Max was down by 10-15 points. We spoke by e-mail and he told me something along the lines of "Eugene, I don't think I have a chance." Famous last words! Max closed the deficit! Appropriately, it was Jimmy Howard who had a superb week with 2 wins and a great SV %. Final Score: 56 - 55 That is what dreams are made of! It is like winning the Stanley Cup in overtime of Game 7...almost:)

- 2013 DOFHL Regular Season (6 weeks) The 2012-2013 DOFHL season comprised only of 6 weeks of a Regular season. Despite it not holding as much value as a full DOFHL season, the competition was fierce to the end! When all was said and done, there was only one unbeaten team left standing: the Phoenix Coyotes! GM Steve Bottini did it with some amazing goaltending (2nd best) combined with a solid offense(ranked 5th). Bobrovsky came out of nowhere to finish 1st in DOFHL in goalie points, yet Anderson(27th) and Bishop(28th) had some great moment as well despite not playing as much as Bob. The scary part is that both Anderson and Bishop could have played more. Anderson suffered through an injury. Bishop finished the season playing the majority of the games in Tampa! At forward it was Claude Giroux and P.A.Parenteau who did a lot of the scoring. The Defense was also strong, led by Beauchemin, Hedman, Seidenberg, and Bieksa. Matt Martin was a key Enforcer. It is a very deep lineup with players like Skinner who had a poor season but can do better. Tyler Toffoli showed glimses of some real potential as well! Asked what was the key to his drafting, GM Steve Bottini spoke about trying to average about $3 million per player. However, no GM gives away all of his secrets! ![]() Congrats to Steve Bottini and to a great season by all! 2013 - 2014 DOFHL Regular Season + Playoffs The 2013-2014 DOFHL season was our first full regular season with playoffs! 21 grueling regular season weeks were followed by an even more intense 4 rounds of playoff hockey! At the end, it was the Phoenix Coyotes that topped the Montreal Canadiens in an exciting 2 week Finals! The Phoenix Coyotes were one of the Cup favorites to start the season. They had the popular "3-headed" monster of Bishop, Bobrovsky and Anderson. However, it was their underrated attack that really helped them secure the Cup. Claude Giroux and Victor Hedman greatly stepped up their game in the DOFHL Finals. Hedman produced more points than any other Forward or Defensemen on either team during the Finals! Giroux was a close second in terms of most points by either team's skaters. The goalies did not disappoint. Despite the injury to Bishop, Phoenix easily won the goalie matchup (29 to 12.5). Phoenix GM Steve Bottini deserves a lot of credit for his great drafting during the Inaugural Draft. He created a well-balanced team that is strong in all areas, and especially in goal. He was also able to finish 1st during the shortened 2012-2013 DOFHL regular season. That ended up being a precursor to his domination during the 2013-2014 season. What is next for 2014-2015? We can expect Phoenix to stay very competitive. Yet there are a number of teams, even non-playoff teams, that are really heading in the right direction. More competitive, more close matchups and more fun are ahead! 2013-2014 DOFHL AWARDS: MOST FANTASY POINTS BY A FORWARD(Art Ross) - CROSBY (196.14) MOST FANTASY POINTS BY A GOALIE(Vezina) - VARLAMOV (203) MOST FANTASY POINTS BY A DEFENSEMAN(Norris) - KARLSSON (182.82) MOST FANTASY POINTS BY A PENALTY KILLER(Selke-like) - GETZLAF (119.08) MOST FANTASY POINTS BY AN ENFORCER - BACKES (101.32) MOST FANTASY POINTS BY ROOKIE (Calder) - PALAT (123.33) CONN SMYTHE (most valuable Playoff performer) - GIROUX/HEDMAN (Phoenix GM decision!) TEAM WITH BEST Single WEEK BY TOTAL FANTASY POINTS - WEEK 20(115.205) - Montreal

Nice recap, Eugene. I salute Montreal's high score for the season and their doing so during crunch time (week 20). I have to admit that a team who entered the playoffs at nearly a .500 winning percentage proved to be a much more formidable foe than i would have expected. The Final really could have gone either way. While I hope (and expect) to remain competitive for years to come, the balance and competitive nature of the other teams is enough to not allow the Coyotes to be complacent. Despite my apparent strength, I do have some chinks in my armor that need correcting. Mainly my bottom tier skaters are on the weak side. I look forward to the remaining Stanley Cup games, although all the teams I've been rooting for have been eliminated already (Flyers, Lightning and Stars). I really look forward to the NHL Entry Draft this summer as that typically signals the ramping up of activities for the coming season. Thanx to all GM's for staying engaged, and a big thanx to Eugene for forming and maintaining such a well ran league. We are all lucky to be a part of this. As anyone who tried to get into this league knows....Eugene does not just enlist warm bodies. |

- 2015 DOFHL Regular Season + Playoffs The 2014-2015 DOFHL season was very competitive as always. In fact, 16 of 18 teams managed 8 or more wins! The New York Islanders finished with the most total regular season points (2087.81). However, the Flyers finished with just 1 fewer point. When it came to the playoffs, neither the Islanders nor the Flyers fared very well actually. The Flyers lost in the 1st round in a very tight battle with division rival Pittsburgh (79 - 78!). NYI lasted a little longer but still lost to Montreal in the Eastern Conference Finals (109 - 97). When the dust cleared, it was actually the Minnesota Wild and GM Patrick Sullivan that demolished Montreal in the Finals (192 - 123). The Wild were led by a very deep forward group, staring John Tavares, Jakub Voracek, Logan Couture, Henrik Sedin, Jiri Hudler, Kyle Turris and Kyle Okposo.

- 2016 DOFHL Regular Season + Playoffs Once again there was lots of competition in the regular season. In fact, 17 of 18 teams managed 7 or more wins during the regular season. NYI once again finished with the most points in the regular season (2102.05). The regular season was also highlighted by a 1 week record set by the St.Louis Blues in Week 19 with 135.575 points! The playoffs were once again a very exciting affair. The Winnipeg Jets and their forwards stormed into the Finals, where they met the New York Islanders in a fight to the last second! The Islanders were led by Brent Burns, Artemi Panarin, and Blake Wheeler. With Carey Price injured, it was a very hard fought affair as the Jets had the edge at forward. The NY Islanders and GM Eugene Oliker squeezed out the win 234.465 - 233.905!

- 2017 DOFHL Regular Season + Playoffs The 2016-2017 season got off to an exciting start as the young and hungry Rangers quickly jumped into first place. They never looked back and finished 1st overall with a 17-4 regular season record. They were followed by some of the usual suspects: NYI, Phoenix, St.Louis and Philadelphia. However, it was the team that finished 6th overall that scared the Commissioner the most all along: Winnipeg Jets. When it came time for the playoffs, that fear held true. The Jets powered their way through the playoffs, vaulting their way to the top behind a very deep and high-scoring lineup of forwards. By the time they were done destroying their competition, they had 6 30+ goal scorers: Crosby, Atkinson, Pacioretty, Lee, Pastrnak, Scheifele. Their depth really showed in the DOFHL Finals, where it was Anders Lee (not Crosby!) who finished with the most fantasy points for the Jets. The Philadelphia Flyers did all they could to hang in, but even Braden Holtby was no match for such a staggering attack. The Jets did not set any records, but they didn't have to. Unlike last season, they made sure to put up enough points to make the Final not close at all. The Winnipeg Jets and GM Trevor Poole won it all 224.635 - 164.79!
