Quoting limited to 3 levels deep
Never been a couples person even though I do like some together/I am just not locked into someone being paired for all time(maybe the Steve & Audrey/Lila/Edward types when it becomes time)so if they split up in the past that meant good new story for all. Some want them to always stay put and that is when you Papercuts
Eeh...people still rooted for couples to get back together some day. There is nothing wrong with that. If the storytelling is good you go along for the ride. It's when you have ridiculous, redundant plots that are not character-driven that you stop being invested in the ride and actually start hating characters over it. I think it's because couples don't happen organically anymore. It used to be that story and couples developed over time. Now they are all predetermined and it really isn't any fun to watch that. Half the fun is watching the story play out and rooting for the couple to get together. If they are together in a matter of weeks or a month I'm not sure what the point is.

Of course some people did and some did not/the thing it there is no blueprint to Soaps but the couple fannie thing IMO changed how people watched and not for the better At some point it all became very manufactured and pre packaged and along with that came fans that treated soap coupledom as if it was a sporting event and got way out of hand.

I remember my mom always rooting for Reva and Josh to get bak together even when they were married to other people.

The only reason they made the move with L&L was due to the chem that popped up that no one expected considering GF was only 17 at the time so that does not fly for me

This is the best description I have seen of the whole couple phenomenon(for lack of a better word I am sure there is one) as it is today

I like the potential of a new couple but I'm afraid of my old fan base will be upset if they find out but I still like the other couple too.

The only reason they made the move with L&L was due to the chem that popped up that no one expected considering GF was only 17 at the time so that does not fly for me I didn't say there was a comparison to L&L. My only point is that fans aren't the only ones to blame for the evolution of couples fanbases...because shows wanted the next L&L and did promote "super couples".
