Sam had a great friendship with John McBain.
Please, Sam barely knew that fucker. And their relationship was all about Jason acting like a bitch toward the kid. If it were a friendship, John would have used his experience with Liam to help her through that (since he felt the same as Jason). It wasn't a friendship, it was a convenience. I just saw that as tit-for-tat. I liked the friendship until they took it to far. I could take a tease but the dude had no purpose other than to lurk around Sam. They didn't even give him a good reason to cheat on his GF he supposedly was so in love with. Just lousy storytelling.
If GV had stayed, I would have liked LuSam to stay friends.

Their history is long and complicated, right?
Long, not so complicated. She lies. He cheats. Repeat. Was complicated because of their past and trust issues?

All these excuses. Admit it, you don't want her to have a real friend. All right. It's TRUE! I'm nothing but a common friendship denier...Are you happy now, Mr. Callison? ARE YOU???

I wasn't a huge fan of LuSam but I did not like the way their friendship was blown apart. It should have been kept in tact. Jason never severed any ties with his exes, Sam should have been allowed the same courtesy.

Why is it tit for tat? She had a Jarly type friendship with McBain. The fans balked.
Let's say she does get a that friendship again with Silas. Will fans accept it?

Was Robert stuck up and looks down on people? Sorta, he hated criminals, liars and cheats. It's why it crushed him when he found out the woman he loved was a double agent.

My issue with the McBam thing was the "connection" garbage. It didn't feel true to Sam's character to so easily trust. She knew Lucky, so to me that wasn't as far-fetched.
