Downfall's History

As this is the first official history of Downfall from beginning to present, and I only decided on making this forum today, I had little to no time to confer with other long-standing members on some of the finer points in the history. Overall, besides the gaps where I was inactive or in a different clan, I know the complete history better than anyone except Dan. For that reason, if there is any missing information or incorrect information, don't hesitate to message an official to make the correction.

Pre-Downfall; {Summer 2008}

There are many accounts of the events that happened before Downfall was formed, as people hold differing opinions on the true reasons that events played out as they did. The most important thing to know, is that before Downfall, there was a clan called KO Unit. KO Unit was led by a player named Sportdemon91, who was also in 'The' at the time. KO Unit was born around December 2007, however it only became a powerful contender in it's own league around the summer of 2008. Throughout the summer, KO Unit became probably the most powerful clan in the group of clans that it fought with (including Sacred X, Souljas, and Legendz,) however near the end of August 2008 all of that changed.

In KO Unit, the officials were having difficulties making decisions and had a strong lack of communication. The Council was never conferred with decision making, and later on the warlords (superseded only by leaders) were not even asked on opinions when electing and promoting new warlords. This became such a large problem, that when the majority of officials declined a Warlord application, but it was overruled by Sportdemon91 (as leader of the clan) so that it would be accepted, all hell broke loose. Being a clan directly based off of 141 warring, KO Unit did not handle hell too well.

Having angered many officials and members, the clan suffered for a few days. In secret, four members conspired to leave the clan and possibly form their own. Those four members were Amateurnoob, Uffan5, Darkpyro1632, and Buzzirox. Secretly speaking to more and more members, the four decided that their idea of forming a new clan could work, and that although it would be difficult, it would be worth the effort having our own clan.

Birth of Downfall; {August-September 2008}

On August 29th, 2011, those four founding fathers, along with around 10-15 members that they had convinced to join from KO Unit, formed Downfall. With no forums or website, no audio program, and no IRC, Downfall at birth was a clan chat clan. After a few weeks, our first forums came to life, and our clan grew from 20 members to around 30 or 40, recruiting everywhere we could. Recruiting in-game; spamming GE, popular training spots, and W1/3 Varrock, Downfall grew to a size that KO Unit had never reached. One of our greatest callers, Thehitman324, was recruited around this time, straight out of the clan chat "Zezima." Downfall was founded on the principles of every member always having a say in the major decisions of the clan. While that idea has hindered progress in a few areas, and had almost stopped Downfall from becoming the clan it is today, without it Downfall wouldn't have survived.

With a solid member base ready, Downfall was ready to begin warring more seriously than it had been. Souljaz had already closed and re-made as Tempted Killers, and Legendz was still going strong. Along with Downfall, these three clans began the first rivalry that would push Downfall to higher potentials.

The Rivalry Triangle; {Early 2009}

With Tempted Killers and Legendz on the rise, Downfall initially struggled to keep up. Tempted Killers was the most powerful out of the 3 clans originally, with Downfall and Legendz close seconds (but the ranking always moving back and forth.) All three clans fought without audio for the beginning of their careers, meaning they were all on even footing. When they all begin using TeamSpeak 2, Downfall rose far above Legendz in terms of warring capability, and was toe-to-toe with Tempted Killers for a few months. Eventually, Legendz dropped far below Tempted Killers and Downfall, who maintained a rivalry for the majority of early 2009 until the summer.

During this time, Sacred X began a small rivalry with Downfall. Though Downfall was always vastly superior to Sacred X in terms of warring, Sacred X's leaders (Sparze & Mr Snickerz) had always hated Amateurnoob, and so decided to start beef between the two clans. Although Downfall silenced Sacred X on the battlefield, the war was continued on public forums, on each individual clans forums, and even with petty things like spamming each others clan chats. Eventually, Downfall and Sacred X truced with each other, to stop the needless flaming that was annoying both clans members. A few weeks into this truce, Sparze "died" in real life, and both clans decided to at least show up to pay respects to him in Lumbridges Graveyard. Throughout the proceedings, Sparze showed up, which not only angered Downfall's members, but many of Sacred X's members as well. With this grievous mistake, Sacred X lost around 5 members, most of who decided to join Downfall. Sacred X soon closed, but was remade into a clan called Generation X (which has died and revived itself as a team countless times until the present day.)

With Legendz far behind us in terms of warring, and Tempted Killers being the only clan that would fight Downfall, we looked to expand our horizons. Our sights fell on a clan called Guthix Warriors, whom we quickly became friends with and formed the "Deadly Alliance." Downfall, always being the weaker clan in the alliance, had a strong drive to become at least as strong as Guthix Warriors. When we believed that we had achieved that, we challenged Guthix Warriors to a fight, a fight with a result that would push Downfall into even tougher competition and heighten the potential that we had for success. After solidly defeating Guthix Warriors, Downfall was stronger than it had ever been before.

TWR; {Summer 2009}

With most of our enemies down, Downfall had constant fights against Tempted Killers. Eventually, in one final battle against Tempted Killers, Downfall silenced them, causing them to realize that we were just as strong as they were. Fighting the same clan over and over again, had lost it's appeal to Downfall. Looking desperately for a solution, Downfall's warlord Uffan5 decided to sign Downfall up onto the Tip.It War Ranking list. The TWR list promised loads of potentially challenging fights for Downfall, and we were only too happy to take our warring to the next level. Quickly entering after us was Tempted Killers, however Downfall did not fight them often.

While Downfall started on the bottom of the Tip.It War Ranking list, it only took two months to traverse the rankings and take a permanent spot in the Top 3 clans on Tip.It. While Downfall's first fight was against a clan with the initials VG (whose full name escapes me,) Downfall was soon competing for top spot. Fighting clans like Zdzira, Ak-latin, Titans Revolution, and Dragon Hunters was the experience that drove Downfall to recruit even more, train our combat levels even faster, and perfect our warring tactics so that we could take the #1 spot. Within another month, Downfall had taken the #1 spot on TWR, and held it for months.

Late in the summer of 2009, Uffan5, one of the founders of Downfall, quit the clan to join Crimson Raiders. This was a heavy blow to the clan, as UFfan5 had practically been the sole motivator and foundation builder of Downfall. This was followed by a small slump in Downfall, however still maintaining the #1 spot on the TWR boosted moral, and quickly the clan came out from the slump it was in.

Divine Vindicators; {Summer 2009}

After being unable to take the #1 rating on the Tip.It War Rankings list for so long, and having other internal problems, Tempted Killers closed, leaving Downfall with no real competition for a few months. Eventually, a clan called Divine Vindicators joined TWR, and quickly ascended to the #2 spot on the rankings, pestering Downfall daily for fights. Downfall gave fights to Divine Vindicators on 3 separate occasions, with the culminating fight being the biggest fight in Downfall's history up until this point, and achieved our highest pull.

The first fight against Divine Vindicators was a solid victory for Downfall, without trouble. This pushed Divine Vindicators to challenge themselves to perform better, and the second war that showed. The second war was a lot closer, however Downfall still ended up victorious. On the day of the third fight, the fight that would decide which clan was truly the best clan on the TWR, Downfall had pulled a solid 58 people, out pulling Divine Vindicators for the first time and slaying them from start to finish. After this loss, Divine Vindicators slumped harder than they ever had before, and started beef with Team Power Rangers, which over the course of the next few months forced them into closure.

Emergence; {Late 2009-Early 2010}

In the late summer of 2009, a second founder, Darkpyro1632, quit Downfall. Leaving for Illusion, it was a parting on good terms, and one that would in the long run turn out positively for Downfall. Downfall progressed through this without trouble, still leading the TWR ranking list without any competition for a long time, eventually dropping out of the warring list after inactivity. During this time period, Downfall was intent on closing Divine Vindicators, however with the release of the wilderness, Divine Vindicators found banana nut bread from Downfall in the wilderness. Downfall, being a CWA clan, tried for the first time to expand into PvP/PKRI warring, however failed as too many members didn't want to have the worry of maintaining rune sets for returning.

Due to the fact that most members of Downfall didn't want to expand into the wilderness, the members who did all joined Team Power Rangers, solely to hunt Divine Vindicators in the wilderness, and to kill the clan that for months had tried to kill Downfall. After 3 or 4 months, Team Power Rangers had finally succeeded in doing the job that the Downfall members had joined for, and so the members slowly and gradually quit the team. This was a period of inactivity for Downfall, causing slightly lower pulls than before. This period of inactivity forced the leadership to finally expand to Zybez/RuneScape Community, to compete with clans that most of Downfall's members had never even heard of. During this time, Downfall also became quite friendly with True 0wnage, a break-off clan from Legendz, as well as Ascension. Both these clans became formidable friends to Downfall.

The First PKRI & Rivalries; {Summer 2010-Early 2011}

After several arguments, reforms, and perhaps a bit more argument, Downfall had it's first PvP PKRI. The steps to get to this stage in Downfall's life were tremendous, angering many members and making a few quit. It opened a new door for other members to join, however. During this time, the leadership consisted of Amateurnoob and Thehitman324, along with Oatlad, Vince4rock, and the Council just a few steps below. This team brought Downfall to it's first PKRI, against a clan called Poison. Poison, although outnumbered, slaughtered Downfall in our first PKRI, enraging members and making the dream of expanding and becoming a force in the top 20 as fragile as it could ever be. Testing itself in the wilderness through PK trips, tank practices, and matched wars, Downfall grew more and more accustomed to the wilderness. Eventually, with the death of a clan called Resilience, many members decided to join Downfall, and help towards the expansion of warring in PvP. With these members came a complete reform of the clan, including the first paid forums in Downfall's history, a few new officials, and a bright road ahead.

Throughout the end of the summer of 2010 and beyond, Downfall became larger, stronger, and an overall more powerful clan then it had ever been before. While expanding into PvP, Downfall found rivalries with clans like The Gladiatorz, whom with Downfall had their first ever uncapped fight with. Gladiatorz eventually hit a small slump, and was no longer able to compete with Downfall, however many clans were eager to hamper Downfall's rush of progress. Next in line was the BlacKnights, oddly enough Gladiatorz most historic rivals. The BlacKnights had never been friendly with Downfall due to absuseless (an ex-BlacKnights leader) joining Downfall in 2010. This caused tension with the clans, and after many Resilience members joined Downfall (whom the BlacKnights seriously disliked) the final straw was pulled, and Downfall and BlacKnights were tossed into Downfall's second PvP rivalry.

Downfall fought BlacKnights on many occasions, winning most, but losing some. Though both clans made fools of themselves during this rivalry, Downfall's successes could not be declined. Downfall rose quickly broke into the Top 20 after this rivalry, while internal problems caused the BlacKnights, a historic clan with a decade of history, to close.

The Third & Fourth Wars; {Early 2011}

Downfall's third PvP rivalry occurred with Pure Hatred & Envy. The first was with Pure Hatred, whom after Downfall slaughtered in a CWRI, decided to flame Downfall and crash our events. This caused a small slump in Downfall, however since the rivalry was so heated and so tight, another prep'd fight was arranged to decide the end of this rivalry. As pumped as Downfall was, the war was never meant to be won, and Pure Hatred shattered Downfall, becoming the first clan in history to ever beat Downfall as a serious rival. To this day (August 29th, 2011) Pure Hatred remains the only clan to defeat Downfall on a prep'd fight with an intense rivalry before it. Fate however, had different plans for both clans. Downfall soon rose even higher and stronger than ever before, through motivation from all of the officials and a few members, while Pure Hatred entered a slump from which they couldn't even compete with Downfall from.

After breaking into the Top 20, Downfall found a solid group of clans with whom to war, defeat, and be defeated by. In this stage, Downfall wanted nothing more than to make a name for ourselves in the Top 10-15, however on our way their a clan called Envy decided to create tension between our two clans. Silencing and being silenced by Envy in the wilderness became daily occurrences in the day-to-day life of a Downfall member, and so a prep'd fight was arranged and was to be the final meeting between Downfall and Envy. Arriving on the battlefield, Downfall members were extremely pumped after some of the things that were said between the clans, and delivered a swift defeat to Envy. Winning this war was a milestone in Downfall's history, as Downfall finally became a recognized clan in the clan world, a goal that Downfall had had from the beginning of it's creation, and it had finally been fulfilled.

Awakening & The Summer of Downfall; {Summer 2011}

The summer of 2011 was the most prosperous time in Downfall's history. Becoming a force to be reckoned with, Downfall had shocked most of the clan world by rising from it's beginnings in world 141, and stepping into the league of warring top clans. A newly reborn clan, called Rune Raiders, hoped to end that after a few members from both clans traded insults. A fight was quickly set up, and the result was (from our point of view,) a victory for Downfall. Most of the clan world however, doubted Downfall had actually won the war. This created rising tensions between Downfall and Rune Raiders, and Downfall sought another battle to settle the score and decide once and for all who the better clan was.

After declining our advances for wars for a couple of weeks, Rune Raiders finally accepted a fight against Downfall. To Downfall, this was the biggest war in the clans history, to Rune Raiders, this was the fight that would decide whether re-opening was worth it/a wise decision. While both clans prepared furiously for this fight, Downfall called soldiers from every resource possible to fight, bringing retired members back, showing the importance to the newer members, and pulling almost every single member of the clan to the fight. With a pull of around 65 people, Downfall not only pulled it's highest amount in history, but also pulled more than it's total of active members. With the amount of people Downfall pulled to the fight, and the determination to show the clan world who we were, Downfall delivered a massacre to Rune Raiders, the likes of which the clan world had rarely seen before.

After the fight, Rune Raiders was on the decline, and Downfall was only moving upwards. Finally being recognized as a rising clan, and a clan in the top 10-15, Downfall challenged itself even further to fight clans we knew were stronger. Clans like Echo of Silence and Corruption were Downfall's next destination, and although not truly winning fights against these clans, the fights helped Downfall come out even stronger than before, finally breaking (in some people's opinions) the top 10 clan world. The Summer of Downfall was the greatest surge of warring ability, community, and recognition that Downfall has had in it's history.

Crash War I; {Late 2011}

After a long period of stability and solid victories, Downfall’s name was starting to get known throughout the clan world as a competitor. As such, some members from other clans thought the need to target Downfall outside of just the game. Several phishing links were spread through our IRC by a member in Violent Resolution which led to the hacking of many of our members. We approached an official in VR about the incident, but it was never dealt with. Instead, Violent Resolution crashed us during our next two fights. Instead of backing down, we decided to stand up and retaliate against one of the strongest clans in the Game. And so began the first crash war in Downfall’s history.

Most members were unfamiliar to the strategies involved in a crash war since hardly anyone had been in one before. Pure Hatred and Corruption soon entered the crash war after being crashed by Violent Resolution many times as well and the stage was set for a slaughter. We set up a fight against Pure Hatred knowing that Violent Resolution would make an attempt to crash. As soon as they made their appearance, the real fight had begun. The uncapped battle lasted longer than 8 hours during which Violent Resolution had accumulated over a thousand deaths. Without much experience in uncapped fights, it was only the dedication of Downfall members that allowed us to preserver and come on top with the win.

The majority of Downfall fights up to this point were prepped and the crash war saw an increase in the number of short prep and no prep PK trips to ruin VR’s fights. Downfall’s activity increased both in game as well as on IRC and TS and our networks of communication reached new heights to ensure that every member would know what was going on. After months of fighting and defending Downfall’s pride, Violent Resolution finally gave in and asked for a truce. This was a new type of warfare and Downfall rose to the occasion. When we were clueless on how to crash, we learned and developed effective tactics. When our memberlists and forums got hacked, we improved on our security and made sure that it never happened again. Downfall has always thrived from beef and the crash war was not so different. We sent a message to the rest of the clan world that we wouldn’t get pushed around and that Downfall was not a clan to be taken so lightly.

Crash War II; {Early 2012}

Fresh off our first crash war, Downfall gained a new sense of pride and picked up right where we left off. However, as fate would have it, Downfall found itself on the eve of yet another crash war. banana nut bread recently lost a fight and angry at the loss claimed we were the ones to blame since we had beaten them a few years back. They began sniping us on spares and despite all the evidence pointing to the fact the spares were banana nut bread, they declined the accusations. Eventually we traced back one of the spares to a banana nut bread member. Even with solid proof, banana nut bread continued to deny that the spares were theirs and continued to snipe us at all of our fights. At this point, there was no doubt in anyone’s mind of what to do next and when every time banana nut bread thought they could fight in the wilderness, we were determined to prove otherwise.

The crash war went back and forth, sometimes we were on the losing side, but more often than not, we were on the winning side. Despite the losses that we had, we stayed focus and committed to our goal. We took the opportunity to work, not only on refining our crashing tactics, but also our quality. As time went on, it was becoming more and more obvious that the crash war was not impacting either side. We were getting bored of it and pushed aside our ego to ask for a truce that benefited both sides. And with that, Downfall’s second crash war came to an end, and miraculously, the spares never returned.
