Yeah, people are mad about how Videl's not a tomboy not kicking ass no more ... but honestly, ... I believe they should be glad the story at least treats her with respect and Toriyama actually wants something to do with her... unlike with Chi-Chi (who is always disrespected by the narrative and only given scraps of narrative justifaction) who just became the wife, mother, and unfortunately the "shrew". That's how she viewed within the lens of the story, how people remember her throughout consensus of the fandom, snd always will remember.... until the end of time instead of wanting to heal her. Even with Super they seemed to have picked up on this and make every scene with her involve the likes, while Videl will be remembered as this "wonderful waifu" for Gohan instead of a hindrance to both the story and her husbando. |

I dunno man. At least Chi-Chi is consistent. I think she gets the one up for me, because Videl is now kind of this doe-eyed girl who sort of bobbles along besides Gohan. On the whole, we know who Chi-Chi is, what she wants, and what she feels. Videl isn't as obvious to me, which is why I think Chi-Chi is the better character. |

Though one would prefer a forgettable character than an unlikeable one. |

That would be a matter of opinion. Unlikable characters are part of a story too. Better to feel some emotion towards them rathen then none at all, in my humble view. Edited by Southern Gothic, Aug 20 2015, 01:04:11 AM.

Videl has been treated with respect? She's been inexplicably turned into stereotypical Japanese waifu bait just because she's a married woman now. Likable she is, respected she is not. That isn't to say it's particularly disrespectful (though that's what I'd lean toward if anything), and the change isn't out of the question, but from our perspective it came out of nowhere and it's just pandering to an audience. It's not even addressed in any way. Chi Chi has suffered flanderization of her character, which isn't good, though I don't see that as bad as what's happened to Videl. |
