Veronica stoked the fireplace with a misplaced femur bone that would have been much more cherished by its original owner. Jenkins polished his recently emptied pistol and newly acquired giant mantis arm which he named "Bug Killer 3000". Kalkavek, on the other hand, was shooting lasers out of his eyes at anything that moved in the shadows.

"Don't you think we should stop him?" Veronica looked around at the pile of carapaces that surrounded their camp. "He's probably just attracting bigger beasts by leaving all these corpses around."

Jenkins positioned a crescent-shaped beetle over the fire to roast it. "Sure, let me just go ask the freakish science accident to stop killing the abominations that want to eat us in our sleep. Then after that we can build a ship with the bodies and fly into the welcoming arms of any nation's orbital defense cannons."

"Don't sass me, I'm just saying it's a bad idea to take a normal landscape and turn it into a feast filet for the biggest fish in this sea of overgrown wildlife." She felt the need to finish making her point, but knew that they couldn't actually act on it. All she could do was go to sleep and hope the volume stayed to a reasonable level of blood-splattering sound effects.

- 6 Hours Later -

"Mazins"

Her dreams of tiger-training were interrupted by the calling. Veronica did not move her body but opened her eyes. Jenkins' hand rested on her shoulder to wake her, his face was bruised and the Bug Killer 3000 was covered in an odd purple liquid. The shock of leaving her dream-state receded and she realized that they were being attacked.

Mazins wasn't like Ametrine Jenkins, she had actually trained her inner power and was ready to fight with energy attacks. Unfortunately, her Power Level of 300 was not sufficient to take on the scene before her. Just outside of their camp was a hybrid creature of draconic and avian heritage. The body was shaped like a small dragon of legend, though the black scales were interwoven with large blue feathers. The only other avian feature was that the creature's maw was replaced with a long, thin beak.

The dead creature wasn't her worry; Jenkins met her gaze and nodded to confirm her belief that it was just a scout. The true threat was in the lack of subtle starlight; the sky on Dark Star was completely blackened by a swarm of avian dragons.

"We're fucked, aren't we?"

"I hope not, these things aren't my type."

Just before the two embraced in some sappy prehumous dialogue, an orange shadow burst over the horizon and cut a line of blood through the sky-encompassing swarm. The creatures parted in fear, dozens of their brethren killed in a single blow.

"Come on, where are the real monsters?! Show me a fight!"

On queue, the swarm parted to reveal a behemoth of their ilk; a copy so large that it overlapped half of the horizon. The avian great wyrm roared at Kalkavek, the sonics of its scream cracking the very foundation of the ground below.

"Yes! YES!"

Kalkavek's eyes bled from the scream. He drew his greatsword and charged, smiling-head first.

"FINALLY, A BOSS FIGHT!"

Swift Re-Action [AKAIKARU, SKILL]
Description: A split second is all that is needed to realize you have made a grave miscalculation, but it takes a fast thinker and speedy limbs to fix your error.
Effect: RESTRICTEDxY. Y = The difference between your Dexterity bonus and your opponent’s. If your opponent’s Dexterity bonus is higher or equal to yours, Y = 1. Use after you roll your attack roll on an Advanced Attack with a base cost of 4 or less. You may re-roll your attack roll. You may use this Skill after your opponent has rolled their defensive roll. Costs 1 KI Point.

Impulsive [AKAIKARU, CONSTANT SKILL]
Description: Battles are fast paced, and don’t always allow time to calculate every single action. On occasion, it may be a better plan to go with your gut, rather than with your brain.
Effect: CONSTANT - Roll 1dX (X = number of Advanced Attacks in your move set) every turn. The number you roll corresponds to the number that an Advanced Attack appears in your move set. You must perform that attack, or pass if you cannot pay the cost. That attack does +(15% Power) damage and costs -1 KI Point to perform to a minimum of 2 (unless it already cost below 2). You may de-activate this Skill at the start of any turn. This Skill costs +1 KI Point to activate for every time it's been activated during combat. Costs 4 KI Points.

Accelerated Shoulder Tackle [AKAIKARU, PHYSICAL, THROW]
Description: The user shoots an energy blast on an angle, propelling them towards the opponent and driving their shoulder into the opponent.
Effect: Physical attack doing (45% Power) Damage. If you have more physical attacks in your moveset than your opponent, the result of this and your next attack roll gains +4. If you have an equal number of physical attacks in your moveset as your opponent, your next attack roll gains +3 to the result. You cannot perform this attack on your consecutive turns. Costs 2 KI Points.

Flamethrower [AKAIKARU, ENERGY, BEAM]
Description: With one arm extended, a swirl of energy with red, orange and yellow hues is sent forth in a beam.
Effect: Energy attack doing (40% Power) Damage. You may forget this attack to STOP a Beam-Type Advanced Attack instead. If you do, you may perform a physical attack on the same turn. SUCCESSFUL - Your next attack with a STUN effect gains +2 to the result. Costs 2 KI Points.

Buckshot [AKAIKARU, ENERGY, BLAST]
Description: A short-distance release of small ki pellets directly into the opponent that have an explosive impact.
Effect: Energy attack doing (7% Power) Damage per hit. Your dice roll for this attack is 10d30. SUCCESSFUL - If 7 or more dice rolls are SUCCESSFUL your next attack roll is considered 2d30. The attack does its normal damage except per hit and any SUCCESSFUL effects on that attack now say "If all dice rolls are SUCCESSFUL". Costs 3 KI Points.

All-Out Triumphant Beam [FREESTYLE, ENERGY, BEAM]
Advanced Attack
Description: Launching into the skies, a golden aura surrounds the attacker. As ki gathers in front of the attacker, the user's arms collapse onto the 'exterior' of the beam, forcing it forward as one, large, victorious ... and mighty beam!
Effect: RESTRICTEDx1. Energy attack doing (55% Power) Damage. SUCCESSFUL - If your attack roll result is 25 or higher and your opponent is Transformed, your opponent reverts back to Base Form. If you have any Mastery and this attack kills your opponent, you gain +20% EXP. Costs 2 KI Points.
Requirement: Bukujutsu

Straining Distraction Burst [FREESTYLE, ENERGY, BLAST]
Advanced Attack
Description: A fake-out attack is made, tossing a blast in one location that is easily dodge-able. The explosive-ness of the attack usually just catches an opponent in some way.
Effect: RESTRICTEDx1. Energy attack doing (15% Power) Damage. You must lose (10% Total HP) HP to perform this attack. STUNx2. SUCCESSFUL - You may choose one of your Advanced Attacks or Skills that is RESTRICTEDx1. That move is RESTRICTEDx2 instead for the remainder of the match. Costs 4 KI Points.

Dodging Bullets [AKAIKARU, BLOCK]
Description: Utilizing an Akaikaru student's speed, the user quickly moves back and forth, dodging energy attacks thrown at them.
Effect: RESTRICTEDx1. Block. Stop an energy attack. If this is used against an attack with multiple dice rolls, all of the dice rolls are BLOCKED. Your next attack gains +1 to its dice sides. Costs X-1 KI Points.

Kalkavek dropped to the ground, his aura still red from the Kaio-Ken technique. The dead body of the bird-man beast lied split in two. Jenkins and Veronica had been defending themselves from the main herd, but the avian dragonflight fled at the moment of its master's death.

"Hey, Jenkins!" He shouted over to the two surrounded by corpses. "How's your leatherworking?"
