[ Aiden and Reina joint quest ]

So the Changelings here...aren’t actually called Changelings?

“Nope.”

They’re called...Arcadians?

“Arcosians.”

...But they change shape, have forms...they change. I refuse to call them Arcosians.

Aiden and Reina had arrived on the planet Vegeta in good spirits, and despite this being a completely different dimension, Reina was glad to be on the Saiyan homeworld. In her eyes, this was a brand new start, and her planet didn’t carry with it the stigma of her past, the horrors of losing her mother and her arm. To these people, she was just another Saiyan warrior. Her level of intelligence hadn’t earned her any bad marks that might have made her look lower class. Having been around humans for so long - Aiden specifically, had made Reina nearly forget Saiyan etiquette. Her race was brooding, unsympathetic, and ruthless - characteristics that she herself had been guilty of more times in the past than she could count. Now that she was back amongst her people, she was finding it more than a simple adjustment of reverting back to those cold ways.

In the time since Reina had come to that dimension, she’d learned first hand what Aiden had been up to - namely the saving of her race from the recent Majin invasion. That man couldn’t go anywhere and not put his life at risk for an entire race that needed saving, at least, that’s the talk she’d given him when she’d found out. While it was in Aiden’s nature to be the hero, the selfish side of her had chastised him for the risk, knowing it could have landed him in the afterlife. Then how would she have found him? To say that Aiden’s presence on Vegeta caused quite a stir, given his recent acts of heroism, was an understatement. To the point that the woman was certain she was going to have to start carrying around a big stick given her intimidating prowess had even failed her. But, it had pointed them in the direction of a case that needed solving, and pleasantly it was just the case Reina was looking for - something that didn’t involve her needing to pound someone’s face in.

Reina and Aiden had touched down on the edge of the city of Rein, the very notable place that Reina’s name had been derived from. It was so different, but similar enough that it drew her focus as she walked beside the human, adjusting the long glove on her right arm as her tail found its place around her waist. She found herself brushing the newly reacquired appendage every so often, just to convince herself that it was truly there again.

So then, it just blew up? Out of nowhere? This Alpha Collective, I mean. And this Doctor, he’s got some bits and pieces of technology from one of the Sectors on the Changeling homeworld? I’m not even native to this universe, Aiden, do you really think I’ll be any help?

Aiden was busy contemplating. What he had not told Reina about was that the last time he had fought off the Majin invasion of Rein he had nearly died in the process (he decided to leave that bit out - she probably wouldn’t have enjoyed hearing it, right?). What had saved his life as best as he could remember was some healing drug given to him by some shady doctors (see: Another Planet Saved) during the confusion caused in the aftermath of the battle. Aiden had recovered in an amazing amount of time - almost as if he’d swallowed a whole bag of senzu beans. Moreso, he felt even stronger after. None of this had been in his mind since, however, due to Ender crashing into his life again almost immediately following. He’d mostly written off the experiences he’d had here. Now that he was back, however, they were coming to the forefront of his mind once more.

“Hm? Oh, yeah. Of course you’ll be helpful. I know its not your planet but you still know more about it than I do. As for anything else along the way, I can try to fill you in as we go.” In no time at all, Aiden and Reina were brought to the site of the crime they were asked to assist with. Being a merc for hire never opened doors as swiftly as they did here on Rein - Aiden had to admit being the savior was paying off.

When they entered that abode the sight they were greeted with was ghastly to say the least. There was a struggle inside the good Doc’s house. Or at the very least it was made to look like a struggle. Furniture was overturned, the walls were broken and burned, and debris lay scattered all about the floors. The kitchen was the worst of it given that’s where the murder took place. Laying on the floor next to the small table therein was the body of a frail, old Saiyan man. A knife protruded straight out of his back; from the looks of things it was a kitchen knife taken from that very room. So the murder wasn’t premeditated, anyway.

The few officials that were working the scene, Rein’s small little police force, were busy cataloging and taking pictures. They were hard at work trying to collect evidence as to the culprit. Aiden honestly wasn’t sure just what help he and Reina were going to be that the police themselves wouldn’t already be able to handle. Its not like some super tyrant or world-destroying villain (Aiden and Reina’s specialties) were behind a simple murder, right?

“You must be the specialist,” one of the Saiyan officers said as he looked at Aiden, who was very clearly human. “Look, he had all this weird shit. Pieces of machines and...weird stuff, really. You said on the Comm you were a specialist in this stuff.” Clearly, the officer didn’t recognize Aiden, which was a stark relief to all of his fame - and clearly, given that Aiden was human, he assumed that he was the brains of the operation…

“Uh, actually, I’m just the specialist’s boyfriend. The real brains is the beauty beside me,” he added to the officer’s surprise. Brains was always second to brawn for most Saiyans so it was a bit of a shock to realize that Reina was the one who had answered the call about the strange tech the old man had. Aiden loved the look on the man’s face when he realized. Reina wondered what bothered him more, the fact that she was an intelligent Saiyan female, or that by Aiden’s own admission, she was dating a human. Different worlds and some things just never change. “Anyway, I’ve seen enough gore for today so if you don’t mind, I’ll be out back. Let me know if you need anything, Rei.” With that, Aiden stepped outside.

Leaving Reina to her work, Aiden busied himself by closing his eyes and relaxing. The feel of a cool breeze brushed his tanned face and brought a faint smile to his lips. He relished moments like this - traveling around with Reina doing whatever the two of them wanted without having some psychopath trying to kill them or monster trying to blow up a planet. It was nice. Of course, such thinking was ill-placed given the situation. They were sort of in the midst of something at the moment. As if on cue, Aiden sensed something just down the alley from the house. Gray eyes drew toward their source before he saw something scuttle away in the shadows down another side street. Suspicious…
