[ Aiden and Reina Joint Quest. Crystal Ball used. ]

Leaving Reina to her work, Aiden busied himself by closing his eyes and relaxing. The feel of a cool breeze brushed his tanned face and brought a faint smile to his lips. He relished moments like this - traveling around with Reina doing whatever the two of them wanted without having some psychopath trying to kill them or monster trying to blow up a planet. It was nice. Of course, such thinking was ill-placed given the situation. They were sort of in the midst of something at the moment. As if on cue, Aiden sensed something just down the alley from the house. Gray eyes drew toward their source before he saw something scuttle away in the shadows down another side street. Suspicious…

Aiden!” Reina said suddenly as she stepped out of the house behind him not more than a few minutes after him, holding something small in her hand. Spotting him at the mouth of the alley and made her way to him, completely missing the rather serious expression on his face. “Look at this! I haven’t seen one of these in forever. You know, at first I didn’t exactly know what it was, until I really started messing with it, but here - look at it!” She came up beside Aiden and reached for his hand, dropping a round device no bigger than the tip of his thumb into his palm. It was worn around the edges, the outer layers of thin silver pulled back and scorched - likely from the explosion. She didn’t stop at his baffled expression, too wound up in her excitement to notice.

It’s a tacheometer,” she answered without him asking. “Or...well, what’s left of one. The evolution of solar paneling at its finest. Granted, it’s not human or saiyan, but the basics are just the same. At one point, the fear of pollution was so bad that science was concerned their solar panels were going to be useless under all the smog and pollution gathered up by the atmosphere - wait, I should back up…

“Reina-” he said gently, slowing down her rapid progression, and she gave him an apologetic look.

Sorry...the point is, these little sensors were made to collect soul energy. Ki. It was said that natural planetary soul energy was ten times as potent as solar. Now, I know what happened with this little guy back in our universe over twenty years ago, but here? I haven’t seen any of these things up on any housing, either here or on Earth, so I’m fairly certain that the hippies had it banned here too.” Reina sighed and shrugged her shoulders. Something about harnessing the planets Ki hadn’t settled with a number of people, a fact she tried to be sensitive to, despite being a child of science.

Aiden did his best to follow along. Clearly Reina felt she was on to something even if he wasn’t entirely sure what it was. “So, this dead doctor of ours was messing with some pretty heavy tech then?” Maybe that was why he was killed? Someone could have wanted to stop him from meddling any more into it. These ‘hippies’ as Reina put it. Or perhaps another motif; they wanted the tech for themselves.

“Well, hey, I wasn’t just standing out here looking dashing and being useless myself. I think I saw something that begs checking.” Aiden motioned toward the alley where he spotted the mysterious figure whose ki signature rubbed him the wrong way. “I think I was being watched. Whoever it was took off that way. Care for a game of cat and mouse?”

Were there cats and mice on this New Vegeta? Reina pocketed the device and pulled the edges of her jacket together, zipping it up the front. There were other pieces of technology to uncover, but for now, this was enough. Reina followed Aiden through the back alleys, clearing every corner and leaving no shadow unturned. Her little outburst had unfortunately delayed them enough to make the trail run cold, as she and Aiden stepped out onto the street, their lead coming to an end.

It’s Rein,” Reina commented with a frown. “If it’s half the shit hole that Rein is back where we came from, there’s always someone watching you out here.” Reina paused and wiped her brow, looking visibly tired as she pulled at the loose strands of her dark hair and tucked them behind her ears. Aiden also seemed to be a bit out of breath from the hunt. His face was beaded with sweat which was unusual for him.

“Hey, I saved this shit hole,” he remarked while trying to regain his strength. “Show a little courtesy.” Aiden placed his hands on his knees and closed his eyes while steadying his breathing. “Man, I’m beat. Weird, I wasn’t pushing myself that hard…” He looked to Reina and saw she too was showing signs of tire.

Reina had been just seconds from firing back a frustrated reply when he pointed out what she'd only subconsciously noticed. She did feel tired, like a weight pushing down on her shoulders, getting heavier by the second. Reina set her hand on a short bench whose bottom had rotted out for support. She felt drugged almost...her tail sagging down from its place around her thigh and before she could even catch her balance, her knees hit the pavement.

"Oh...shit. The tacheometer...” Reina knew what it was before she sank onto her hands and knees, feeling a darkness looming as she got weaker and weaker, her hands tugging at the concrete. There they were, thousands of them all bundled together with only the glass heads barely showing atop the dusty street. She and Aiden were standing right on top of them...

"Run...” she rasped, doing everything she could to pick herself up, but like a fly in a spider's web she knew there was no escaping...She just feared who the blood Ki sucking predator was who'd trapped them. "Run, Aiden...

Reina collapsed and went still...unconscious…

Aiden was not doing much better. Feeling the effects of that strange technology his body grew heavy as if he were in a weighted environment. He stumbled and struggled to stay upright as he watched Reina collapse. Reaching for her he dropped to a knee. “Damn… it…” His eyelids felt like lead. The strength needed to keep himself awake was being drained from him so fast. Aiden fought it as hard as he could. That crimson aura burst from around him, rippling the air and ground and was immediately extinguished like a flame with no oxygen. He dropped to his other knee then used his palm to brace himself against the ground. “Rei.. na…” he said weakly, still fighting the urge to drop.

From behind him Aiden heard footprints approaching. He managed to crane his neck in time to see just as the butt of a gun struck him in the side of the head. The sharp pain seared his vision and everything went black.
