The Destroyer
Sharyu floated in midair, his fiery aura fully engulfing him, "Come on Kar, it's just about a dozen more feet!"

The Durian climbing up the mountain face a few feet below him grumbled, "You could have just flown me up here..."

Laughing, the Shikirian responded, "You wanted me to train you, so that's what I'm doing. You'll learn the power of Bukujutsu when you no longer have a need to climb mountains."

"That doesn't even make any sense...no one has to climb mountains!"

"Ah, but clearly you do, if you want to reach the top," Sharyu responds, still laughing. "I'll meet you at the top!" Kar rolled his eyes as Sharyu landed at the top of the mountain.

[10 Minutes Later]

Sharyu was leaning against a boulder, waiting for Kar as he thought He should have reached the top by now... Quickly he went over to the edge and peered downward, but there was no one on the mountain face. "Kar!" Sharyu shouted as he flew off the mountain, eyes searching for the Durian. Suddenly, Sharyu heard the bark of a Phantom Double-Barrel Shotgun coming from a cave on the mountain side. Sharyu dashed forward, but a large creature appeared at the cave mouth, holding Kar up by his clothes with one of it's scythe-like arms. The Shikirian quickly came to a mid-air stop as the monster violently threw the Durian down the mountain. His fiery orange aura exploded out of Sharyu as he dashed towards Kar, intent on preventing his gruesome death. Mere feet from the ground, Sharyu caught him and arched upward, back toward the cave entrance. "Get that gun ready," he whispered to Kar as he activated the Laser Cannon on his arm. As the duo came within ten feet of the cave, the large monster leapt from its perch, spitting fire out of its mouth, sharp, savage teeth spread wide. Sharyu's training kicked in and he immediately cut the flow of ki to his feet, ending his flight. Sharyu began to fall just before being caught in the blaze as Kar let off another shot with his shotgun, but it went wide, scouring the side of the mountain. Sharyu reactivated the flow of his ki, flying out from under the beast as it drove its arms into the side of the mountain, bringing its decent to a screeching halt. "Now, while it's immobile!" Sharyu yelled, firing a large red laser beam at the monster as Kar fired another shot. Both hit home and the beast's arms lost their grip in the stone, but as the beast fell it stretched them out again to gain a new footing. Quickly, Sharyu tossed Kar into the air and dropped like a rock, extending his arm as if to lance his opponent. The hit connected and Sharyu drove the monster downward, straight into the ground. Refusing to relish in his victory, Sharyu quickly leapt out of the pool of gore forming around his feet to catch the Durian and midair, then continue back to the top of the mountain. "See, once you're strong enough to survive a monster attack alone, you're strong enough to not have to climb mountains," Sharyu joked. Kar rolled his eyes again before falling backwards into a deep sleep. Smirking, the Shikirian glanced at the sun, The planet has kept the sun on this hemisphere for close to twenty-four hours... he thought as he brought out his Space Pod. Quickly, he returned it to full size and brought Kar inside before falling asleep.

[The Next Day]

Sharyu's eyes opened to the sight of his daily rations sitting on his lap, with no sign of Kar. Quickly, he dashed towards the open cockpit door, forgotten food falling to the ground. As he exited his space pod he yelled, “Kar, where are you!?” fearing another monster had attacked.

Kar poked his head from behind a rock, “Oh, hey Sharyu. Was just trying to get my bearings...Sector 10 is over that way.” Kar pointed towards....does this planet even have polar caps?...he pointed away from where the sun had been hanging for nearly thirty-six hours. Sharyu nodded, secretly overjoyed at the fact that Kar wasn't a chew toy, as he returned to his space pod to eat his ration. After eating and drinking his only supplies for the day, Sharyu shrunk his space pod down and headed off in the direction of Sector 10 with Kar.

Several hours later, Sector 10 was finally within sight. Twelve foot walls surrounded it's one hundred foot diameter, open-aired first floor, with a four hundred foot tall, fifty foot diameter black spire stretching into the sky. That must be where they house the prisoners, he thought as he eyed the spire. As they came closer to the fifteen foot tall front gate, the duo noticed automated turrets, spread out every 6 feet along the wall, pointed at them. After a few tense seconds, a Durian appeared on top of the wall next to a turret, “Who goes there?!”

“My name is Sharyu, and this is Kar. We come in peace...We simply want to get off of your planet.”

The Durian chuckled, “Don't we all?” He waved his hand behind him and the gate began to open. The two men walked through the gate and were greeted by the same Durian. “Name's Marx. Good to meet you....don't see too many Shikirians around these parts...let alone ones that survive the wilds.”

“It had it's challenges. As for your previous comment, I take it you're all stuck on this planet too?”

“Yep, damn planet has some sort of dampening field around it. Whenever a ship comes in, most of the important systems stop working, crash landings are a norm here on Dark Star. My government had initially set up a supply route for the prison, but the ships kept going down...I guess they decided to stop, haven't seen another one in years. As for the prison itself...well, we chose survival over duty. We released the prisoners so they could help us fight off all these damned monsters. Been working well so far, except for a few initial riots, but hey know who keeps everyone armed and fed.”

Sharyu noticed the shocked look on Kar's face, but decided to press on, “Have you been able to find the source of the dampening field? I would gladly destroy it to get off of this infernal planet.”

“If only you could, stranger...Sure, we found the source, but you're not gonna like it. Have you seen that junk pile near the other side of the planet, in the dessert? Signal seems to be coming from in there, somewhere.”

“We...actually just came from there. In twenty years we never noticed anything strange...”

“Never noticed anything strange? The whole area's crazy! Didn't ya ever wonder why all the ships that crash land on this planet are suddenly brought there?! There's something inside that mountain of trash...I don't know what, but I wouldn't mess with it...even if you wanted to stop the signal...Look, there's plenty of food here...for now...you should stay. We can always use an able-bodied warrior, especially one that can survive out in the waste's.”

“Thanks for the offer Marx, but I need to get off this planet. If I destroy the dampening field, I'll return,” Sharyu said as he turned on his heel and exited Sector 10.

“...You're already dead...”

After a few minutes of walking, Kar finally spoke up, “I can't believe it....The whole time we were scavenging in that junk pile we could have had a home at Sector 10...”

“It's a tough break, but there's nothing we can do about it now, besides bring down this dampening field. There's a whole universe out there, Kar, and it's much better than this hell hole.”

“How are we even going to do that? That crazy Durian was babbling about something living inside the junk pile, but we never saw anything. In twenty years, the only sign of life we saw was you, Sharyu.”

“We'll find out when we get there...”

[In A Nearby Cave In The Dessert]
Wake up!

The Dark-jin's eyes flew open at the sudden intrusion to his thoughts.

Excellent...I have something that I need you to do, Menth.

Yes, Master. Anything for you, Master.

In Menth's mind's eye, his master smiled. There is a Shikirian traveling through the dessert, coming to my home. He has proven a...minimal threat, taken out two of my weakest slaves. You will destroy him...Do not fail me, Menth.

Yes, Master. Anything for you, Master. And like that, the link was severed. Menth stood up on his four, clawed legs, arching his spiked back, stretching after his decade long slumber. Quickly, he threw his tail forward, foot-long blade piercing easily through the wall, melting the rock. As he withdrew the blade, the rock remained super-heated, red color shining in the darkness, the creature shoved its hands through the hole and began to work an opening through the rock. As the creature exited his nest, the planet suddenly shifted, forcing the sun behind a mountain on the horizon. Menth's eyes changed from black to red as he scoured the dessert for signs of abnormal heat. He spotted two figures walking slowly through the dessert in the direction of his master's home and his mouth started to water, super-heated drool turning the rock beneath him to liquid. Quickly he began to descend the rock face, not wanting to alert his prey.

[Back To Sharyu]

As the duo trudged through the dessert, the planet began to move beneath them. Both men fell to their knees as the sands shifted, and the planet hid the sun behind a mountain. Sharyu stood, staring towards the missing sun, “That was strange...”

“We've seen stranger things on this planet, let's keep moving,” Kar said with a smirk as he ventured on. Sharyu stared at the mountain for a few more moments before following his Durian companion.

Several hours later, Sharyu heard Kar muffle a yawn. “We should make camp for the night...” he said as he drew his space pod from a pocket.

“I can keep going,” Kar mumbled sleepily as the pod returned to full size.

“We both need our rest Kar,” he said as he opened the hatch, “Come on.” Kar took his usual spot on the floor as Sharyu sat in the captain's chair. Both quickly fell asleep.

Menth rose from the sands that he was hiding in and began to approach the space pod, a sickening smile spread across his face. Slowly, as to not alert the pod's occupants, the Dark-jin climbed to the top of the space pod. He peered down through the window, smile widening as he viewed the sleeping forms of his prey. Slowly, he let his drool fall, soldering the door shut, permanently. After this was finished, he quickly returned to his position on the ground, behind the pod. He positioned his burning hot tail near the hull of the pod and slowly pressed forward, easily cutting through the metal. Slowly, but steadily he cut a hole in the pod that he could squeeze through. When he finished he pushed the metal through and climbed into the space pod.

As the metal hull of the space pod hit the ground, Sharyu's eyes flew open. First they found the window, It's still dark out, but then they fell lower, seeing the liquid metal pooling on the floor, realizing that the door would never open again. Quickly, Sharyu leapt to his feet, fiery, orange aura exploding out of him, starling Kar awake. The sudden light inside the pod blinded Menth, his heat vision going crazy. The Dark-jin let out a pained hiss as it withdrew from the pod, seating himself on top as his eyes changed from red to black. “Grab your gun and stay in here!” Sharyu shouted as he burst through the hole in the back of the ship, he quickly rolled through the sands and came up facing the pod, his Laser Cannon aimed at the top, but the Dark-jin was gone. Sharyu gained some altitude, scanning the dessert for his opponent with no luck.

Suddenly Kar cried out, “Sharyu, behind you!” but it was too late. The spiked ball that is Menth crashed into Sharyu and drove him to the ground and the Dark-jin quickly pinned Sharyu, drool purposefully splashing into the sands next to the Shikirian's head as the beast smiled. As Menth went in for the killing blow, Sharyu heard the sudden bark of a Phantom Double-Barrel Shotgun an the monster was thrown from him. Sharyu reacted quickly, grabbing Menth's tail just below the blade and tossing him far into the sky. He quickly took aim, and fired his laser, slicing the Dark-jin in half as he fell to the dessert.

“Thanks for the save, kid, now let's get the hell out of here,” Sharyu said as he started again for the Ship Graveyard, leaving his ruined space pod behind.

[Almost A Day Later]

“Alright, we're here. What do we do now?” Kar asked as he eyed the mountain of trash.

“You go get your family while I prepare...” Sharyu said as his fiery aura ignited his skin. Kar quickly ran off to find his family as the Shikirian's aura continued to grow. A couple minutes later, Kar returned, tears streaming down his eyes. Sharyu quickly let his giant aura fade as he ran over to the Durian. “What is it? Where is your family?”

“They're...they're dead Sharyu. It...must have been a Dark-jin...there was so much blood...” Kar sank to his knees as tears ran down his face. Sharyu's anger reached a new height at hearing this news, his aura exploding out of him, nearly doubling his size.

“You're going to want to back up a bit,” he growled to Kar as he focused all of his energy into his hands. Slowly the balls of ki grew, and grew until they were about four feet in diameter. Then Sharyu let the energy re-enter his body. The orange glow crawled down his arms and finally met in his chest, where he fired a very large red lined orange laser at the mountain of junk. The explosion was deafening as the trash pile was thrown for miles by the blast of ki, Sharyu waited for the dust to clear, breathing a bit heavier than normal. Suddenly, a loud keening, almost louder than the explosion, split the air. Sharyu and Kar both grabbed their heads, groaning in pain. Suddenly the trash shifted and was thrown in every direction as a thirty foot tall being emerged from it's home. Immediately the creature focused on Sharyu and threw it's arm in an arch, slamming Sharyu and Kar with such force that they were thrown for dozens of feet. The duo crashed into the sands and rolled for a few more feet before coming to a painful stop. Sharyu groaned as he regained his footing, staring astonished at the behemoth that he had awakened. There's no way... and that's when he spotted it. A device that he had seen somewhere before seemed to be growing out of the beasts back. Sharyu knew the device well, it was what was creating the dampening field around the planet, but there was no way he could destroy it. Dismayed, Sharyu scanned his surroundings, only now realizing the fully intact ship that lay a few feet away. “That's it! Come on Kar!” Sharyu shouted, pulling the wounded Durian to his feet and shoving him in the direction of the ship. Both men ran into the ship and closed the blast door behind them.

“What does it matter Sharyu? There's no way we can fight that...”

“I never said we were going to fight it,” the Shikirian said as he ran over to the command console. Quickly, he ripped a panel aside, revealing the navigation unit. Sharyu made a few modifications, further proof of his excellent training, and when he finished he fired the ship's ignition. Almost immediately he took the ship into the air, “All systems are a go,” he said, smiling to himself as he raced away from the monster in the trash mountain. Sharyu yanked back on the stick, sending the ship out of the planet's atmosphere and into space. “Here, take the stick...just don't hit anything,” Sharyu said to Kar as he stepped to the side, opening another panel that revealed a socket for an AI. Quickly, he pulled out the AI core from his ship, the Thermic Lance, and plugged it into the hole.

The core whirred with renewed life, “Scanning for personnel...None found.”

“What!?” Sharyu yelled. How could it have...wait... Sharyu ripped his shirt off releasing his bared chest. “DAMNIT!”

“What is it? Am I doing something wrong?” Kar asked.

Sharyu glanced through the cockpit window and saw that nothing was amiss, “No, you're doing fine. My people really have abandoned me...my status tattoo is gone...stop the ship, I'm going to need your help.”

Several hours later, Sharyu had a new tattoo. He felt it only rite that it show the lowest rank, hopefully the AI would accept him.

A quick reset of the AI and it began again, “Scanning for personnel....Lieutenant Sharyu determined as highest ranking officer. Sorry to hear about your demotion Sharyu.”

“Don't mention it...just take us to....the Alpha Collective, please.”

“Rite away sir!”
